Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone heard Royce Hunt signing with WT 650k per year for 3 years! Good player but way overs. Could easily get Hopgood for that price or stretch to NAS! Erin Clark and Jazz Tevaga for half the price would do better
mate with the greatest respect, J’Maine Hopgood is a million to one to wind up at Wests Tigers. he’s the last player Ryles will let go in that geriatric forward pack. time to think of other options.

If we had the room I don’t mind it. His attitude is what we need. Him and Luai together would be revolutionary attitude wise.

I think Bula is lacking the “it” factor to be our long term fullback. Don’t get me wrong, Bula can be good. But the best teams have fullbacks that are consistently great.
I think the biggest thing for Bula is his confidence and voice. He's still young, so it's fine. But he needs to develop more 'competitiveness' and if being a bit grubby is going to do that he should do it. Don't need passive players

Getting Latu Fainu on the field in some capacity should be a priority for the club. They invested quite heavily in both him & Sam. I'm not suggesting 'at all costs', but if there is a way you can have Latu & Galvin & Luai on the field together- you are in a better position than not having them on the field.

You play your best players.

Joey Manu is a better fullback than centre. But you don't drop Tedesco because of it. You find a way to fit them all.

Moving Galvin to centre isn't about not wanting him in the team. It's about wanting the best team of players on the field.
The best teams manage how to fit guys into the equation. Penrith put Matt Burton at centre. Bulldogs this year have played Crichton at centre all year despite hype in the off season to play him at fullback, with Tracey filling in brilliantly. Even Manly considering Turbo to centre is another thing that could work out well with Koula at fullback potentially. Top teams do that. Bottom sides get bossed around by individual players getting what they want which in the end benefits no one. Galvin being an 18/19 year old should be more than grateful for getting a full season of first grade (even when he's had some poor performances), and be happy to play a different position if it's best for the team.

Yeah, he is a hard one.
The talent is clearly there...he could well be our best player.
He appears to not pull his weight consistently or cruise a bit...however:
  • He has defused 59 bombs this year - which has him ranked 2nd in the comp
  • He has taken 377 runs this year - which has him ranked 3rd in the comp
  • He is averaging 160m/game with over 3.3kms gained - which has him ranked 6th in the comp
  • He is 8th in the comp for kick return meters...his average isnt elite but he is putting the work in
  • Has played every minute this year bar a 10 minute spell in the bin - which has him ranked 2nd in the comp
That said, he is also error riddled (8th worst in comp) is outside the top 25 players for linebreak assists, top 60 players for try assists and seems often out of position to save tries.

A work in progress, but a slow one at that.
Is that most errors as a total number of average errors per game? Nice stats.

Lots of interesting points of view.
For mine we should give latu a full season in our new look cup team. Let his body mature and run the team as big boss. There is little point in moving him positions as there are many out there that think he is as good if not better the Lachie. He is young let him grow and see what you get.
I feel this way about most of our youngens put them in cup for a year and get them propped for full time footy.

Johnson, porter, fataape etc can fill out the cup squad and be call ups for injury only. They will all be better with a full preseason and under their belt.

I don't get the bird hate. If we can get him cheap he is a natural footballer. Aggressive skill full and full on just injured to much. I'd take him at the right price. Bring xp and will help with culture.
