Fishing Thread

Hmmm. Looks like fishing was the best choice for today given some comments I've read re the game.
Started off lure fishing. Young mate can cast another 30 metres over me. Had 4 in the bag before I took a breath.
Come close to dark so I reverted to what I know best and used pillies. Got 8 all over 50cm in short order.
3rd person got 5.
Young mate bagged out, still using different lures after dark. He must be the devil 🙂
In all 23 fish between 3 of us 50 - 65cm.
I'll have the hot smoker out in the morning; also prepping some as Japanese hiraki style for grilling or pan frying. The bigger ones will be delicious pan fried with a light splash of soy and some lime from the backyard.

Not very familiar with it unfortunately. I would imagine there are some great fishing spots along it.
A long time ago my brother and I went spotlighting for blue swimmier crabs on Coal and Candle Creek. Got a stack wading through the water at up to chest height at night.

Caught my first legal jewy the other week with some yakka as bait !! Almost cried tears of joy 😂😂 felt like a lifetime achievement.

I've never caught a legal one but having said that have never specifically targeted them.
Went tailor fishing two years ago - guy who was with us pulled out one around the 7 kilo mark. Lucky bastard 🙂

Last time I went found a lot of oysters. They were top quality. Can't remember exactly where but on southern mainland. Watch the tide.

If you're ever up this way look for them on the Nambucca. Lots on the rock wall on 'Dog Island' near the Island Golf Course. Water very clean usually up here.

Some big tailor around Nambucca last night.
Got a PB at 65cm and two others over 55cm.
Got bit off 6 times (very unusual); and dropped a number of others. Wondering if there may have been some jew there as when they got off it felt like I was pulling the bait out - jew have hard mouths and this can happen apparently.

Apparently tailor up 85cm about atm. Guess what I'm doing tonight 🙂
Neighbour speared a 90cm jew off the rocks at Nambucca just now. Said there's big schools of jew and Australia salmon about. Targeting them tomorrow 🙂

I've fished for 40+ years.
I went up the river today for the first flathead fishing trip of the season.
I still can't sleep sometimes with the anticipation of a fishing trip the next day. Even though I'm 61 🤣.
Last night, when I woke up at 1.00 am, I said to myself " Idiot, your team beat Manly last night. Brooks didn't murder us with 7 tries. You're going fishing tomorrow. Be happy and Go to effing sleep! "
And for the record, 5 flatties between 40-47cm and a nice flounder.

I've made some wire traces for the first time. Unfortunately I only 2/0 gang hooks - hoping they hold the tailor without straightening out. Ordered some 4/0 hooks but they haven't arrived yet.

I know that can't sleep feeling very well. I can get to sleep but am always awake well ahead of time.
Fortunately I don't plan so many early mornings anymore - too lazy and hate the cold in the morning.
