Latu Fainu #282

To be fair, Galvin sweeping contributed to the deception, which wouldn't of happened if he didn't work so hard to have his hands on the ball constantly. Oppositions clearly have their eyes on him. There hasn't been enough class to support his work rate this year. It's a good problem to have in the future.

Luai taking the heat off both Galvin and Latu can only be good, whichever way it falls positionally.
It was a silky pass and sleight of hand by Latu, but credit also to Seyfarth for running a great line and timing his run perfectly. He is a much improved player.

Its good he has a high work rate and the idea of using him as a decoy is very attractive due to it. Sullivan actually used him like that as well and put on some nice tries earlier in the year.
Not giving him the ball every time he calls for it is a maturity thing and its something Luai will be great for. He will choose to hold back at times and when he does pull the trigger, defenses will be in two minds, and therefore in trouble.
I can see Sam Fainu scoring a shitload of tries next year, Beaver Menzies style.

Hoping he has seen promise within the club and fully commits to us in the future. The way he plays does make it seem he has. He could have shut up shop like some of our pensioners have done in the past.

Fox sports article suggesting Latu isnt favoured at the tigers because benji hasn't picked him and other clubs will be sniffing around.

I am pretty sure his injuries have been the reason he's been playing NSW cup.

I know we tried to get him and Galvin together in the halves against the Cowboys at Leichardt before he came off with a HIA.

Just shows how much BS the journos talk.
Marshall confirmed in the post game press conference the club have been over-cautious with his rehabilitation to make sure he is fully fit. Marshall also said he is only 18.

As a side note, 6 players from Wests' Harold Matts 2022 winning side have debuted in the NRL. On my count, there are only 4 other players across the remaining teams who have achieved the same. Of course it says as much about our lack of depth as it does the success of our pathways.
Wow.
Yeah it does relate to our depth and the need to elevate ahead of schedule, however it also shows what a damned good team that was.

Yep, only opinion.
Weve tried to get him into the team on a few occassions this year but the injuries have really held him back.
So good to see him in action as a half last night.

1. Mason
3. Bula
6. Fainu
7. Luai
13. Galvin
14. TDS

That's what we need to do heading into next year.
Mason can improve his positioning and confidence under the high ball but you can't teach his tough carries, getting us on the front foot from kick returns and his change of pace and right for step. Bula has the skillset of a centre and would compliment the rest of the team.
Galvin at 13 can have a run first mentality and add some of his ball playing into the mix but he's not a game manager. He's all effort at full tilt.

No mate……. Bula is way better in defence and it’s not even close . I rate Mason , he’s special , but Bula is a better fullback .

Time will tell but in my opinion it's the best way to fit them all in with better balance.
Perhaps Mason has the voice to be organising the defence line a little better? There's many facets to a fullbacks game.

Maybe 2025 is too premature but one way or the other Bula is destined to move away from the fullback role once Large comes through.

Did anyone see the kick he did on the left hand side? He had no space, and did an end on end bomb with one step.

I think he has a massive boot on him. I like him more in the centres than at lock if we are trying to fit in Galvin, Luai and Fainu. He's quick between the ears too, didn't take too many wrong options in his limited time.

But let's address that problem when we get to it, I hope to see him start off in NSW Cup next year and string a few good games together.

The Galvin to backrow is fanciful stuff. There’s 17 other clubs who’d sign him as a five eighth.
Three weeks ago, I would not have entertained the idea of Galvin at 13 for this exact reason.

I thought if we shift him to #13, we lose him....

But 3 doesn't fit into 2 (Latu, Galvin and Luai).

So the only way we keep all 3 is by making that move......

How it's going to go down? Who knows....

But after what I saw from Latu, I also desperately don't want us to lose him either!
