Any of the Sharks props would be fine by me. All of them would ad something.
Bird is a real foot player
No issue with either
Personally I don’t think our team could carry hunt in defence when he’s gassedAny of the Sharks props would be fine by me. All of them would ad something.

I will be very surprised if Tumeth is here next year. If he has no one interested, we will pay out his contract to free up a spot. I think Staines is often spoken about harshly on here but does his job more often than not. Not a superstar, but certainly a Top 30 squad member we should be keeping. As it stands we have 28 players under contract for next season plus Tumeth with a player option & Sezer a mutual option.
Reading the tea leaves, I think Sezer staying in top 30 is contingent on Bud leaving.
Then I think the club will prioritise …
1 Re-signing Sione Fainu
2 Jack Bird
3 Royce Hunt
4 Corey Horsburgh
5 Someone who may fall from the tree if we have roster space
The above I reckon will be contingent to releasing these guys under contract …
- John Bateman
- Brent Naden
- Starford To’a
- Brandon Tumeth *
- Charlie Staines *
Bateman would be a good contract to sell given the $$$ if we can find a suitor. Possibly Souths.
Naden only has 1 year left so easier contract to sell (top up if necessary) + has shown to other clubs his value in recent weeks.
To’a is down our pecking order now, would offer good value to other clubs to take his 2 years remaining, played internationals end of last season. Plus same manager as Stef, iPap & Kepaoa so a bit of a trend there.
I actually think we’d like to keep Tumeth to keep developing a pathways rep as that is our charter. But with his manager being Isaac Moses & need for experience in our roster, he may be on the outer.
Staines is another we ideally would like to keep. BUT if we have issues offloading either Naden or To’a & there is interest in Staines at full freight, we may have to.
NB. If we are serious about Royce Hunt & Sharks want something in return as per DT today then Naden or To’a may get that deal done (as Sharks could do with more cover in outside backs).
I'd prefer UeleI thought he looked gassed running out in the first half
Agree. He did work hard in d for one set though but overall was lazy imo. Even when sharks had the ball he’d walk behind the ruckI thought he looked gassed running out in the first half
Mario TartakDon’t do business with Luciano Leiluia’s manager
The guy must have photos, three years on $900k at the dragons after a $750k+ multi year deal with the cows
Before that we had him on around $400k
Stay well clear, he’s too good
Anyone know who it is
ThanksMario Tartak
Anasta regardless of what he was being paidMust be struggling for things to write about, add in:
Chris Mcqueen
Matt Balin
Russell Packer
BJ leilua
James Roberts
Ben Matelino
Worst signing would have to be anyone signing up to a Daily Telegraph subscriptionReading the telegraph this morning. There is an article of the 15 worst big money deals of all time. Wests Tigers have 5 of the 15! Adam Blair, Luke Brooks, Jayden Sullivan, Josh Reynolds and Moses Mybe. Hard to disagree.
Yeah. You won't see Bird go missing in defence like AD.Keeping an eye on Bird, he does a lot of work off the ball. A lot of talking and organising which is something we'll need. Could be a really good leader and stiffen our defence on the edges.
It'll be a risky signing due to how injury prone he is. But offers a bit more versatility and direct ball running than Doueihei.
Gotta trust Benji and Richo on this one.
Apologies...I thought you were advocating for him at 700k...some actually here believe he is a top line player and commands a big chunk of our cap..and btw...u have no idea what yr missing!U do actually, having seen our recruitment over past decade!
I have had a few drinks today so please confirm you said $850k for Oregon Kaufusi? That would be madness imoThe talk is Royce Hunt is asking for above 500k per season to sign with us and as much as I like his impact, that is too much for a player who only plays limited minutes and is approaching the back end of his career.
It’s rumoured Horsburgh is asking for similar money and he would certainly add aggression and physicality, but he’s also a risk with his injuries and general head space.
I believe Oregon Kaufusi has a mutual option meaning he can sign elsewhere for 2025. He’s at the right age in his mid twenties, now in the prime of his career and looking like he is becoming one of the games elite props. I am certain his current contract with the Sharks would only be around 300-400k maximum and it would take a sizeable offer for us to get him, but on current form he’s a definite upgrade on his old mate Stef, therefore I think we would get him for 800-850k per season.
If we combine him with Pole, Twal, Sione Fainu, Tim Johanssen, Jordan Miller and Chris Faagatu we have a quality prop rotation for the foreseeable future even allowing Klemner to leave when his contract finishes at the end of 2025.
Then if we also offer Jack Williams our starting 13 position with the ability for him the ansi play on an edge during games or when required, our forward pack would be looking very strong.
Then to fix our centres and that’s a much harder task as the quality available is bare.
Why when on current form he’s a better prop than Stefano who we offered 800k ?I have had a few drinks today so please confirm you said $850k for Oregon Kaufusi? That would be madness imo
Your post is riddled with assumptions and errors. Why when on current form he’s a better prop than Stefano who we offered 800k ?
On current form he’s far superior than Royce Hunt or Corey Horsburgh who both want 600k, why take second best if we don’t have to ?
Or would you prefer we spend the same money on someone approaching their mid 30’s such as RCG ?
When talking recruitment you have to be realistic and most clubs in the NRL would be happy to pay around 700 to secure a quality prop such as Oregon Kaufusi, we are not getting someone like him unless we pay more than everyone else and that’s much the same for anyone we are looking at recruiting.
I’d rather we pay overs for someone with the scope to continue improving, rather than someone who’s best days are behind them.
