Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The talk is Royce Hunt is asking for above 500k per season to sign with us and as much as I like his impact, that is too much for a player who only plays limited minutes and is approaching the back end of his career.
It’s rumoured Horsburgh is asking for similar money and he would certainly add aggression and physicality, but he’s also a risk with his injuries and general head space.
I believe Oregon Kaufusi has a mutual option meaning he can sign elsewhere for 2025. He’s at the right age in his mid twenties, now in the prime of his career and looking like he is becoming one of the games elite props. I am certain his current contract with the Sharks would only be around 300-400k maximum and it would take a sizeable offer for us to get him, but on current form he’s a definite upgrade on his old mate Stef, therefore I think we would get him for 800-850k per season.
If we combine him with Pole, Twal, Sione Fainu, Tim Johanssen, Jordan Miller and Chris Faagatu we have a quality prop rotation for the foreseeable future even allowing Klemner to leave when his contract finishes at the end of 2025.
Then if we also offer Jack Williams our starting 13 position with the ability for him the ansi play on an edge during games or when required, our forward pack would be looking very strong.
Then to fix our centres and that’s a much harder task as the quality available is bare.
I have had a few drinks today so please confirm you said $850k for Oregon Kaufusi? That would be madness imo

Why when on current form he’s a better prop than Stefano who we offered 800k ?
On current form he’s far superior than Royce Hunt or Corey Horsburgh who both want 600k, why take second best if we don’t have to ?
Or would you prefer we spend the same money on someone approaching their mid 30’s such as RCG ?
When talking recruitment you have to be realistic and most clubs in the NRL would be happy to pay around 700 to secure a quality prop such as Oregon Kaufusi, we are not getting someone like him unless we pay more than everyone else and that’s much the same for anyone we are looking at recruiting.
I’d rather we pay overs for someone with the scope to continue improving, rather than someone who’s best days are behind them.

Your post is riddled with assumptions and errors.

1. Stef was offered 800k. Doesn't mean his is worth that. Ended up signing for 650k which is roughly his value. Even Richo said we offered overs.

2. RCG is not "approaching his mid 30s". On a 2 year deal he would still be in his early 30s.

3. Royce Hunt and Kaufusi are not 600k and 850k players. There isn't a club in the NRL that would pay close to that.

Your whole narrative is bogus. Stop drinking before you post.

Hasn't played well in an injury prone half decade
It's not Blore with time and size on his upside..Bird is Bateman 2.0 trading off performance 5 yrs ago
Big no
Hunt useful in 17 if priced accordingly
Not sold on Cory ..more anger than impact
We need some genuine quality to replace fwds we've lost..not discards who happen to be available rite now
2 right clontarfkid,no more has bn's or wanna b;s

The problem is Horsburgh comes with a high price tag for the return.

I'm not against almost any signing, but the contract term and value needs to be commensurate.

If you want a workhorse defender with no punch, we have Dave Klemmer. He doesn't miss many. Twal doesn't miss many either. The economics doesn't make sense to add another one of these types on 600k+.

At 350k you won't hear me complain about Horsburgh.
When we had our best run on front row, Stef and Klem; we were down about16 nil in 16 minutes.
When they were replaced the Manly points dried up. Just don't understand why?

He has good discipline, good tackle efficiency and good offload abilities. However he averages 86m/game, 23 tackles/game, is outside the top 170 players for tackle breaks and doesn’t crack the top 100 players for post contact meters.
I agree he should not be offered that sort of dough. Far too high.

Where would everyone put bird?

I'd have him in an edge forward role or share 13 with latu (if thats the plan). Bateman, Samuela, Bird, Latu in the 11, 12, 13 and bench 2nd rower.

With your theory we will end up with RCG and it will be another disaster signing a player well past his prime and just using us as a Super Annuation top up.
If you want quality players in their prime, you have to pay top dollar, it’s that simple.

I watched the Souths v Knights game and Tallis Duncan really stood out. His defence was great, his mobility and drive to cover ground to make the tackle was impressive. His seems to have great leg drive as his post contact metres excellent. He would be a player I would sign and has a good physique for the second row or lock.

Agree. He did work hard in d for one set though but overall was lazy imo. Even when sharks had the ball he’d walk behind the ruck
Prior to this season Horsburgh had 2 excellent seasons in a strong forward pack. This season injury & some kind of relationship fallout with Ricky- which is not uncommon- has put him into the doghouse.

He won't command $800k, but someone will pay him around that $600k a season.
Worth $600k IMO. Sign him.

I thought RCG had a great game the other night. Ran hard, tackled his heart out for long, long minutes.
Would put our current front rowers to shame.
