Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thanks Teddy23
Love the updates but it makes me laugh that clubs like Knights and fringe top 8 team have salary cap problems but Roosters with 16 rep players in the squad are all fine and above board. I don't buy that players go there for less because blind Freddy knows they get there money from others ways.

Happy to take TF as he adds that hard nose no nonsense player we lack to help develop all these kids.
I agree re the Roosters cap, the only people who think it's ok are Rooster supporters, and the NRL who are scared stiff of Nick

Starting 5/8 because the coaches son is suspended.
Let us know how many games he has started and we can work out how many games he has missed through injuries.
He would be playing centre if Flanagan was playing, they pushed Lomax from right wing to right centre to put Bird in, who was by the way playing secondrow at the time.

I tend to agree, though I think there's a key difference right now.

In the past, the older, more experienced recruits that have been bought, often on inflated contracts, to be THE guy.

Reynolds, Tamou, Bateman, etc.

We then gets the shits, rightly, when they can't carry the team out of the mire.

This time, I think we are more buying experience, on lesser deals, to fill the experience gap, whilst others within the side, the Luais, Bulas, Galvins, Latus, Apis and Samuelas of the world, do the heavy lifting around performance improvement.

I think, differently than in the past, that's where a guy like Frizell, on the right contract, can provide value.
From memory:

Tamou was brought to train up the forward pack. To be A guy but not "The" guy.

Just like he did with Penrith...

Now I have to ask. Why did Tamou train and work so well with Penrith and not here?

And lets not forget Joe Ofahengaue.
Hey, were crazy (to re-sign players and then drop them straight after).

Newcastle don't seem to have that kind of crazyness.

yes they have 6 halfbacks (at one point). I don't know why.

What we did with Joe O makes no sense. That said, we were not winning with him.

The Wests Tigers are poised to land the signing of Cronulla’s Royce Hunt as they move to fill the void of prop Stefano Utoikamanu.
Hunt has met with Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall and the club is growing increasingly confident that the Sharks power forward will be on their roster next season.

Hunt is believed to be weighing up a three-year offer as Benji Marshall continues his rebuild of the club.

Hunt is on-contract at the Sharks for 2025 and has been given permission to look for another club for 2026 and beyond.

The Tigers deal would require Hunt securing an early release from Cronulla for 2025, which is expected to be ratified as negotiations intensify this week.

probably the best front rower currently on the market and someone we had to pursue given the dearth of quality currently amongst our middles.

another opportunistic signing similar to Skelton, but the biggest question is whether he's able to evolve his game from being an impact type to a starting calibre enforcer. there can be no question about his ability, but it's the added responsibility which makes me wonder.

Which is why i’m sitting here wondering is a 3 year deal for a guy who’s averaging 24 minutes a game this season a smart idea? unless it’s like a 2 year deal with a MO which would be better

I kind of agree with what a lot of people were saying on here tbh, he played good for like 3 weeks then has gone back to his usual. Plays like 20 mins a game & still runs out of puff, hopefully he works on his fitness.

Like any signing it comes down the cost to determine if it’s a good signing or not.
I’m a fan of the impact Royce Hunt can provide, but he’s clearly shown he cannot keep it up for long periods and only plays 30-40 minutes per game at best.
This being the case surely our top offer would be no more than 500k per season ?
I value his team mate Oregon Kaufusi much higher given he demonstrates he can play much longer minutes and is capable of similar impact.
