SMH Article 'We’ve lost faith in them’: Balmain consider shock exit from Wests Tigers merger

Communism
You're an extremist who doesn't seem to understand the real issues at play here.

The single biggest threat to WT is HBG. They have failed year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year.

And now they want to retain power so they can continue to fail in the future, all so they can get free sausage rolls at the game. The only way HBG can remain at the club is if every single member, other than Gilbert, is forced to re-sign and never have anything to do with WT or HBG again.

Why should they get another month? They've had a long time to implement these changes. All changes should be already well in the works and be close to be being finalised and announced.

If they're not close to being announced then HBG have already rejected the report and must suffer the consequences.
Who's to say the HBG have been given the nominees for the board from the independent recruitment company and they don't like what they see.

Aren't applications being vetted by agency?

There may not be many suitable candidates of that calibre called for.

Few successful busy people who are passionate about a team want to get involved for an honarium.....or nothing to cop flak from a disgruntled passionate fan base.
They are supposed to be, but the reports are that process has been put on hold.

If people in control aren't committed to WTs and have some nostalgic view of bringing back either of the old clubs and they are in a position to make things difficult for self serving reasons, than they are handbrake to moving forward.
But haven't the Balmain people shown they are the ones that are not committed to the JV by apparently wanting to break away and go it alone.

Please re-read @Magpie_Magic post again where he says..."there was nothing but talk of keeping the honest spirit of the JV alive and promoting Balmain legacy within it......along with funds".

It seems to me that Wests Ashfield/HBG or whoever have bent over backwards to try to make Balmain feel like part of the family, but now they have kicked sand in the face of Wests for what appears to be self-serving reasons.

Because I believe that the right outcome can be achieved without further public damaging the club in the media.
But what's stopping them from making the announcements in the next week or two?

Either they've been working away on the changes or they haven't. A few weeks on top shouldn't be necessary.

Select the new board members as per the recommendation from the recruitment agency, register them as necessary, provide the report in full to all new board members, hold meeting with new full board with item one on the agenda being the adoption of all outstanding changes from the report.

Who's to say the HBG have been given the nominees for the board from the independent recruitment company and they don't like what they see.
Tough.
The whole point of the independent directors is that they will provide knowledge and experience that HBG doesn't have. HBG directors will feel threatened by their arrival.
They either act professionally or sell the club.
Saying we don't want the most qualified person for the job but would prefer to give it to the guy who runs the Chinese restaurant at our club instead is not a valid argument. They are not recruiters or HR specialists, they hired someone to do a job within a certain framework matrix, let them do their jobs.

So how do we remove the debenture holders? There would be a contract signed with the terms of the debenture, if the initial amount provided is repaid can the debenture be nullified?
There is no way to remove the debenture holders, sure if they are repaid they would no longer be a debenture holder but there is no way to make that happen.

How can a club, serving its members, have a board for which only 2 are voted upon by the members? That doesn't sound very legal. Who appoints the other board members then? And if members feel that the current board are failing, how can they remove those board members? They can't have jobs for life just because they want to.
I think @hammertime explained that in an earlier post. There are about 20 debenture holders which have about 4 or 5 seats on the HBG board. The seats are rotated through those 20.

One lone wolf from Balmain doesn't represent a consensus.

What the Balmain board have managed to do is bring the issue of HBG's dictatorship of morons back to the public light. The time is now for the report to be acted upon in full. Any failure to do so is unacceptable.

These unprofessional buffoons have held the club back for long enough. They can't keep being faceless cowards, they need to be front and centre, named and shamed for their negligence.

And those 20 debenture holders have a stranglehold over the club in perpetuity? They're free to do whatever they want, with no accountability to anyone, ever? Because of some agreement made probably decades ago in an extremely different economic environment?

About 99.9 percent of us agree with you. We also feel the same about hbg not implementing the recommendations of the review by June. It's putting fans on edge that the last decade of crap was for nothing because potentially the next decade could end up exactly the same
With the giant leap forward that's recently happened being Richo, new and exciting players and our juniors coming thru in a big way, big $$$ to upgrade our grounds, I was feeling confident we were heading to a much brighter future next year.
Now 'someone' is stirring the pot again, so maybe the next decade will be exactly the same.

Given a threat to dissolve the JV has been made and certain members are almost getting to the point of wanting to micromanage the identities selected for Chair and board..........a precedent has been set for constant toxic public attacks on the club.........every time board members come and go.

A lot of those changes were the result of the review, a review you argued against. We just want the rest of the recommendations followed through with.

It's not about micromanaging who is selected, it is about implementing professional recruitment practices.

Whatever,

No excuse for the disharmony which will take a long time to wear off.

A precedent has been set.

At the end of the day BRLFC didn't call for the review and wasn't a party to it and now they have threatened dissolution of the club if it isn't to their satisfaction.....even if it was half-heartedly denied with an undated media release.

Taken things to an extreme level.

I agree totally but at the end of the day they don't have to do shit. They hold all the aces.
