John Bateman #268

I found this to be a funny quote from Burgess about Bateman.

“He’s a calm mind and I’ll probably say at the weekend it wasn’t our calmest performance (against London Broncos) so it was good having him out there along with a few more of the cool heads, so that’s what he brings, he brings great leadership. I don’t know where he’ll play but he’ll be playing.”
Where ever he plays he'll be playing silly buggers. 🤣

It is not a shock to me to see how much more improved our discipline is after this imposter has gone back to the UK.His constant "in your face" style was causing others in our team to lose their discipline as well as irritating the refs.Bateman was far too abrasive imho
Hope he stays in the UK and we can get a younger English forward to come here as i would think they would be more prepared to fit in.

I was hoping he would be picked up over there, it may still happen and just more media spin so tigers chip in some.

But if he comes back i could see a role (with the right attitude) as a lock if we don’t need up with anyone else.

We defended a lot better when he was in the team (when not in the bin or giving away penalties)

He played lock many times the past 2 years and was worse. He completely ruined our attack and put pressure on our halves, and he got dominated taking hitups.

It's reserve grade or right edge, they are the only options. At least at right edge he will make his tackles.

Surely something can be done to decline his VISA, isn’t it only skilled professionals who are allowed to come and work here ?
He does not fit that criteria.
His Aussie wife & youngest child are over here so they have a few considerations before uprooting back to the UK permanently.

So me thinks ...

Bateman, Benji & Richo will have to work out any differences asap & Benji find the best way to maximise him for 2 years, OR

We pay some freight and he moves to another club looking for a backrower (Dragons, Rabbits, Eels maybe)

I agree King. No good as a lock. He did tighten up our right edge defence as a backrower but offers minimal in attack there.

Here's a left-field option ... bench prop used like a Josh Curran at the Dogs for line speed, effort.

I'm a big advocate for left field ideas to try and get something out of a player, but I'm concerned by how Bateman got dominated I the middle when playing lock. So I'm not sure he could have an impact in that role.
