Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tedesco has been bog average this year . He turned back time on the weekend though , and reminded everyone why he was the best fullback in the world for a long time .
But like any fullback on the wrong side of 30 it’s really hard to continue to put out those performances consistently . It’s why a lot move to the centres later in life .
Ponga is a weapon , and clearly the best fullback in the game . The issue with newy is they haven’t worked out a way to integrate him into the attack , that isn’t at the expense of everyone else .
It’s 💯 the Ponga show in Newcastle for better or worse .
Pongo is the can be the best fullback in the game. The problem is it’s when he wants to be. He’s played all season but only recently he’s played great form, he’s to inconsistent. You can’t be the best fullback in the game and only play like that occasionally! Turdesco has been better throughout the whole season. Not doubting his potential, just not often enough fir my liking, to lazy.

I loved Pongo in Blazing Saddles..

Well done.

Lived up there ages ago.

Please, please don’t go swimming at the beach when it’s unpatrolled.

Sea conditions change quick and it’s notorious for drownings.

On a lighter note, my tip about Manly hasn’t aged very well, the games still going and it’s a bloodbath lol.
The southern end of Rainbow Beach where the surf club is, is very safe. Between the patrolled part and Middle Rock to the north can be quite dangerous with a lot of rips

I don’t think it’s safe enough to swim there unpatrolled.

Conditions can change quickly and the rips are brutal and can be fatal.

To resolve it, @851 can consult with the surf club folk.

Aloe is the best plant for sunburn etc. Easy to grow.

Pretty harsh.

Crossland and Cogger/gamble/hastings are all ok but offer no threat. Look at all the other sides with great fullbacks, most have multiple genuine attacking threats across the side (teddy, walsh, turbo, edwards). Put Ponga in any of those sides he produces much, much more, likewise put any of those players in the Knights side and they produce similar or less than what Ponga produces

What about the Roosters and Bulldogs who will likely have JAC’s money soon and have Crichton, Kikau, Burton and are playing finals? They wouldn’t draw interest from To’o?
We have signed Jack Bird... It would be nuts to sign To'o now.

That said, I would rather To'o.
The known combination with Luai
The strength and just running through people, allowing transition out of wing to Center or even forwards.

Yes he is not tall so unsure how he would go under the high ball. Moving him to center makes that a non-issue.

We got Jack Bird, who is alright... Roosters or Dogs will get To'o if he is looking.

Why?

Workhorse prop: Twal and Klemmer
Impact prop: Hunt and Pole

Attacking backrower: Samuela
Defensive backrower: Bird, Bateman

Top 17 Squaddies: Seyf, Sione
Depth: Tim J, Kitt, Sukar, Miller

Adding Kobe Hetherington at #13 👍
And some more "experienced" depth on lesser wages would be ideal.

Players always become available over the off season/pre season.

Surely there's more to come.
Hopefully Kobe is a sure thing - bit of Liam Fulton to his game and we've needed a #13 for years.

Oregon Kaufusi (MO for 2025 with Sharks) would be a perfect Stef replacement.

Need another good back up / bench prop like Preston Riki [Penrith] or Wiremu Greg [Eels]

Also worth having a look at fringe guys who'd appreciate the chance, as @The Chad mentioned.... Peter Hola [Raiders] or Alec Tuitavake [Dragons]

but had an interesting chat with someone linked to the club over the weekend

might already be common knowledge so apologies

- for batemen to play in the super league, the tigers had to terminate his existing contract another 2 years worth 800 and 850

- the club releases simpkin and kepoa from existing deals contributing nothing

- richo used this money as a payout to bateman to the amount of $450k

- batemen has signed a new year 2 year deal with the club worth $600k a season

- great business imo, helps with cap space but also helps us lure potential suitors with a reasonable contract
It makes the timeline interesting.

Richo goes to UK in mid to late May
Simpkin & Kepaoa released in early June
Bateman released to Warrington in late July

So despite denials Bateman must have been discussed during Richo's UK trip.

Maybe the blow-up between Benji & Bateman was more along the lines of ... "when am I getting to England" lol

Thanks for the intel @kade7

You really wanna know my thoughts Steve?

I think you're drunk and need to put down your phone.

We have 30 signed for next season, not 32.

Starford Toa is also not signed for 3 more years, he is signed til the end of 2025 (12 more months)
Belated reply .
Go to NRL website - Signings tracker - All contracts - Wests Tigers
They show a long list with all players contracted
2024 - 2025 - 2026 - 2027
The total they show with 2025 contract is 32 ! ( maybe Nrl wrong as I think 30 is max )
They also show 7 players who had 2024 contract but no more !
Of these 7 2 already gone elsewhere + 2 going elsewhere and I'm curious about the other3 - Ailamalo - I personally don't think he's up to it
- Faataape - I think he shows promise as a center but I am a bit 50/50 on him
- Sione Fainu - I really think he's a keeper
No im not drunk just carefully reading the NRL app .Maybe its wrong ?
Ps Toa 2 more years

Exactly right @Demps just got to shake the tree branches, see what falls off haha

Interesting fact, Kobe Hetheriington & Ethan Bullemor were both Norths Devils juniors coming through grades, made Qld U20 team together, played for Broncos together in 2021.

Bullemor off contract on Nov 1.

Who in their right mind would pay Bateman $800k+?

Pascoe should never be employed in Rugby League again.
