Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Help me understand....

Bateman is paid out of his original contract $450k...this allows him to play in ESL in 2024.
We then resign him for 2025 and 2026 at $600k a season

If thats correct, wow!. Bateman is a shit footballer but a great negotiator...he doesn't lose any WT contract money, goes to ESL and earns half a year salary there too..
Other players are gonna want this deal 😜

Players always become available over the off season/pre season.

Surely there's more to come.
Hopefully Kobe is a sure thing - bit of Liam Fulton to his game and we've needed a #13 for years.

Oregon Kaufusi (MO for 2025 with Sharks) would be a perfect Stef replacement.

Need another good back up / bench prop like Preston Riki [Penrith] or Wiremu Greg [Eels]

Also worth having a look at fringe guys who'd appreciate the chance, as @The Chad mentioned.... Peter Hola [Raiders] or Alec Tuitavake [Dragons]
It’s been reported by Reedy on Triple M last week that Kaufusi took up the option for next year.

Sheens would be far more to blame for that disgraceful contract than Pascoe,Pascoe would just be paying for what the coach insisted was the missing x factor for the club
According to Hagipantelis a list committee (including a director on WT board) was responsible for recruitment.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Pascoe wasn’t ideal, but I think he bore the brunt of a lot of undue criticism.

He was always bound by board and coaching decisions. He was a servant.

He’s got an alibi.

Yes Pascoe was a survivor. Hagipantelis often exclaimed both he and Pascoe served at the behest of the board. I think it may have been Pascoe’s first CEO job?

True, but Pascoe let this all unfold with Packer, Reynolds, Mbye etc just a few years earlier. You would think they would have put in processes to stop this happening again especially for a so-called "development club".

I loved Granny, she was a crack up 😂
Getting a bit off topic but Max Baer Jr (Jethro Bodine) is the only one of the regular original cast that is still alive and is currently 86 years old, turning 87 in December.

Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) died in 2003 aged 95.

Irene Ryan (Granny) died in 1973 aged 70.

Donna Douglas (Elly May) died in 2015 aged 82.

Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane Hathaway) died in 1991 aged 69.

Raymond Bailey (Milton Drysdale) died in 1980 aged 75.

There wasn’t some covert operation to destroy the club at any time.

it was a group of people who thought they knew what they doing, but didn’t and where less personable.

The resurrection and continued empowerment and facilitating of Sheens was an example, although we havent heard his side.

As we know, he had only a few months of full time coaching before the white anting of him began in earnest.

And it was Pascoe who was sent out to secure Fulton, which he accomplished.

They didn’t tell Tim until later.

Fultons own demise was interesting in and of itself.

I think hb should have released the review for transparency ,so far as legally possible.

Tedesco has been bog average this year . He turned back time on the weekend though , and reminded everyone why he was the best fullback in the world for a long time .
But like any fullback on the wrong side of 30 it’s really hard to continue to put out those performances consistently . It’s why a lot move to the centres later in life .
Ponga is a weapon , and clearly the best fullback in the game . The issue with newy is they haven’t worked out a way to integrate him into the attack , that isn’t at the expense of everyone else .
It’s 💯 the Ponga show in Newcastle for better or worse .
Whether you love him or hate him, it's more than a stretch to say Teddy has been bog average this year, last year I think you could criticise him but I think this year he has been back to some of his best form and it hasn't been just on the weekend.

I am in no way a fan of Tedesco and would rather see the low life break a leg rather than a record but sometimes you have to acknowledge that someone is performing well even if you would prefer that they weren't.

We need a super fit, small forward to lead our line spped and who can tick off all the training.

Like a McCinnes, Mann, Kenny, Luke Lewis, M Aubusson type player. All our forwards are just big, slow and unfit.

Turuva, Luai or Hunt won't add that.

Api can't do everything in terms of attack and be the skipper. He should be given the job to control the ruck and speak to the refs. Luai should be the leader with his words and we need another one who leads with his actions.

Anyone know who that player could be for us?

Pascoe should be telling the Coach to settle down when that player/Contract is tabled.

That's what a Strong and smart CEO like Richo will do.

I don't think so. CEO should stay away from football departments.

Pascoe's fault was hiring Sheens in the first place. After he was hired, the three spoons are on Sheens.

Pascoe/Lee's major fault was not developing systems and having an unprofessional club.

IMO, Richo still needs to decide who's going to be looking at the entire football department. I don't believe the CEO should be involved in the day to day football related decisions.

Looking forward to having Bateman back on board on a reduced salary.

Missed his defence on our edges late in the year.

And he unlike other dud buys did put in......probably went over the top due to a lack of support.

Strikes me as a guy who will go better in a better team.

Kobe Hetherington and Ethan Bullemor fit the bill
