Onitoni Large to Manly

interesting ..I’ve read nothing but adulation here about this kid …but as soon as he signs elsewhere ….
Onitoni has wonderful speed and movement, can sum up an overlap and possesses the athletic gifts required to succeed, irrespective of what code he plays. he is going to make a lot of money.

but I have also watched him many times and I have never seen him take the line on the way Galvin or Latu does. if he’s going to play 6, he’s only going to be distributing or kicking unless he finds it within him.

WT wanted to develop him as a centre, he wanted none of it.

So disappointing.

Must be a matter of pathways to first grade. He sees himself as a half. We have Luai, Galvin and Fainu while Manly have Cherry and Brooks.

Somewhat increases the pressure to re-sign Galvin. Losing Makasini too would be a devastating blow
Isn't our old recruiting manager at Manly now...

gifted sure, but have you watched him play league? forget the union highlights. he’s scared of the collision.
Fittler’s son (Zac I think) shits all over O Large… and the Roosters of all clubs lost him to union. Makasini is the kid we need to keep. Having said all that, as much as I love Benji as a person, we really need a strong coach. Could it be that Richo was in England not for players, but maybe for a coach.. enter Sam Burgess

People thinking Large’s move might indicate Galvin might be extending are dreaming. Not saying he will not extend down the track, but his manager will drag it out and squeeze every cent he can and than probably choose another club.

Once again it highlights the absolute waste of time and money being a pathways club under the present NRL salary cap set up
Penrith have made a good fist of it. But they have the cart before the horse.
Ie they have the best Junior League in the state.
Within that you’re bound to put a strong bunch of teams together.
So for some not necessarily a waste of time.

this forum-wide fear of Galvin leaving needs to stop. he is more than 12 months away from going to free agency and his family have put his agent on ice.

as long as we provide him with a place to develop and a clear plan to become a sustainable footballing entity that is constantly challenging for premierships, he will stay. with Shane Richardson at the club I see no reason why both won’t happen.

I don’t buy the can’t keep them all argument. These are the players you move heaven and earth to keep, especially when they’re under long contracts.

A development club shouldn’t lose their best junior.
Theres 17 clubs soon to be 19. The best young talent will ultimately dilute through the comp.

You know there is a legitimate reason why it seems likely Galvin will walk, right? Tedesco and Moses don’t ring any bells? Stef and Ice leaving, and now Large. We have a form in letting our best talent walk out the door. It’s not something you can even argue. And the fact we don’t have a coach makes it even more bleak than when we lost the first two.

Everyone has heard the old saying, "you can't keep them all."

At Wests Tigers sometimes it seems like it it should be, "you can't keep any of them."

you raise a good point, but every case is subjective. if we get to the end of October 2025 and he still hasn’t re-signed then people have a right to be anxious, but we are a long long way away with a lot to play out.
