Onitoni Large to Manly

Were they developed?
I thought they were just thrown into the top grade totally unprepared and well ahead of their time...
??? Yea they just plucked some guys out of MacArthur square , and said here you go …. Of course they developed them .

Not sure what all the fuss is about with this kid? Sure he looks a decent talent (I personally think he'd flourish more in union than league) but Galvin & Fainu are easily in front of this kid & if he doesn't want to knuckle down & earn his spot good riddance I say.
He’s not a 6 , more likely a long term centre/ fullback . But he’s backing himself . Good luck to him . Extremely athletic though

new coach wont change anything with kobe , their cap is cooked

large is a disappointing loss, the club was very confident in keeping him, siebold has basically guarenteed him a first grade debut next year

also sees himself as a 6, will be interesting to see if his brother follows suit
This is what's most concerning. The club has nurtured him and were very confident in keeping him. And they still lost....

The fact we needed to 'keep him' suggests there was a clause though, if he was unders contract it's not about keeping it's about keeping him happy, releasing him is a whole new matter.

This will definitely play a role in the development of Ashton Large who is also a pathways player.

I am not mad at losing Onitoni. Excellent talent but you can't keep them all. And he would've been blocked from first grade in an already stacked and talented halves depth.
I feel the decision would've been between keeping Onitoni or Makasini and I pick Makasini any day of the week. But I am worried we might lose him to union!

Them: oh no we have lost a good 17yo who wants to play no.6 but hasn’t played any senior football - what are we going to do? We’re a terrible club, another wooden spoon now.

Me: I can’t wait for next year when multiple premiership winner and SOO player is coming and will team up with one of the best young players in the game.

Conditioned victimhood. Also me 18 months ago 😅

then if we did all that and he still wants out then there is clearly reasons to be concerned as to why he wants out so badly. Which was my original post. Contracted players not wanting to be here is a concern. A bigger concern than players uncontracted elsewhere not wanting to come here.
I'd be tempted to say to him/Manly we will consider a release in terms of a trade and hold him for 12 months if no trade offered. Or if he is the type to let his situation affect the rest of the playing group just let him go but try to work out what the problems are and address them so we don't lose more players in the future.
So every club that loses a junior should be "concerned"?

Or only you have the approved reasons as to why a player can leave?

Mate back to my original post. All these losses adding up is concerning.
Losing a junior in itself is not really concerning. Losing a contracted junior is mildly concerning. That happening shortly after another (particularly one in the same position) was denied multiple release requests and not yet secured their future here (Galvin) is a little concerning. That happening in conjunction with another highly rated young player choosing to activate a release clause and leave for less money and years (Utoikamanu) is somewhat concerning. That happening at the same time the best forward and probably the only walk up tier 1 rep player (Papalli'i) opts to leave before his contract is up is concerning. That happening whilst one of our more promising young forwards (Pole) is yet to re-sign and looks set to go to market is quite concerning.
Clearly there is a trend of our best young talent not wanting to be here. How long do you wait before getting concerned and believing there may be a problem that needs addressing?

I think Richo knows exactly what he’s doing and quite a few of your issues are related.

He came out and told us all he wanted to establish pathways for our best juniors. Large’s path to first grade was blocked by competent players and so we let him go.

There are significant opportunities for young forwards at WT and it doesn’t seem like we have juniors lining up to fill the void. I think we’ll see Richo pretty active in the marketplace for up and coming forwards over the next 12-18 months.

They’ve sold him on the fact DCE and Tommy & LB are on wearing legs. If he thinks he’s a superstar he’s not interested in centre money.

Got it. So when Tigers lose players it's concerning. When other clubs lose players it's not concerning. Seems like you haven't thought this through.

What do you say to Penrith? Luai, your SOO half leaves to the wooden spooners from the premiers...that's very concerning. Then! If that wasn't enough, Turuva follows him out the door! Fisher Harris has walked out on them too...Penrith obviously falling apart. Very concerning.

What if it's just as simple as the pathway is blocked regardless of whether Galvin stays?

Why so much hate over losing Large when he wants a position that for the 1st time in like 15 years, we have quality (Laui & Galvin) and a quality back up in Latu in the squad.
I could understand if this happened 12 months ago and we didn't have Laui and Galvin was not proven yet.

IMO why pay him good money to keep him and take a spot in the 30 when we need other areas to focus on.
He might turn out to be a dud but that's footy. We are in the best shape in 2025 then we have been for years with 2 x SOO quality players leading us Laui and Api.
Ever year these young kids come up and are "Going to be the next Superstar" but it doesn't happen to most but with the juniors we have there will be more coming so heads up and trust the process.
