Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not that straightforward, is it?

Madge flogged the players, remember Jesse Sue half-collapsing, didn't result in ongoing success. Does Cleary flog his players? Robinson? Bennett?

Also cannot ignore the case of poor young Keith Titmus at Manly. Imagine if Shawn Blore has a medical incident because of that intensity.

I think people make real mistakes pointing to Craig Bellamy, arguably the greatest coach of all time, and suggesting that it's just a matter of replicating some of what Bellamy does, as if that was a simple thing.
My mates son , played at the storm last before moving to the panthers this year , when I asked him what was the difference in training between the two , he said the storm was harder running wise , but the panthers drills where a lot harder , he said both made many throw up and they were spent every session. Can we send both clubs a request for there pre season play book

Double Kaufusis stats and see how you go....
After all, DK costs twice as much - So he should give us twice the output yeah?

Weird that fantasy footy gurus who study stats - thinks that makes them a real supercoach
But, to actually put sense to your argument, the Sharks signed Kaufusi off potential to a 3 year $400k a year deal. Now that he is delivering on that potential, and using your style of argument, 'wanna bet he's closer to $800k on his next contract?'

Klemmer's contract was picked up from Newcastle- an established player & when signed by the Knights, around 26 years old. So is it really surprising that his contract value is higher? "wanna bet if he gets another contract it's more reflective of his current status?"

I guess you'll change your argument to support cost-effective Klem at that point.

I've seen some dumb arguments in my time. This rates among them.

But, if you want to argue contract values I guess I can play along.

Message Board Target Kaufusi- 873.3 PCM

Message Board Villian Klemmer- 846.5 PCM

Unnamed $900k a year player - 724.3 PCM

Kaufusi- 84m per game average
Klemmer- 101m per game average
Unnamed $900k per year player- 91m per game average

Kaufusi 95.1% tackle effeciency
Klemmer 96.4% tackle effeciency
Unnamed $900k per year player- 91% tackle effeciency

Kaufusi- 2186 run metres
Klemmer - 2023 run metres
Unnamed $900k per year player - 1747 run metres

Would you swap Klemmer for NAS? Before you ask- Klemmer played 20 games, NAS in 19. So you know...pretty comparative compared to Kaufusi's 26 games.
Are you saying NAS is on $900k?? NFW

Weird argument.

The only areas Kaufusi is significantly superior to Klemmer is tackle breaks (36 v 15) & offloads (32 v 5)

Klemmer is guilty of not being a flashy, explosive forward. Luckily the Tigers have 2-3 of those guys in Hunt, Pole & Sione Fainu on the books.

Not sure how Kaufusi fixes what ails the Tigers in place of poor old boring Klemmer.
My message was more about his running style looks like he stops before he even hits contact, at least i always seem to notice that

Don't forget Eisenhuth ! Just shows what the calibre of comments here is about players - Cleary must have seen something in Garner and Eisenhuth to get them both at Penrith.
If you are judging players by whether Cleary signed them, then take a hard look at what he did to our roster. 😳

Cleary saw something in Eisenhuth alright.
$ Savings.

He signed Eisenhuth in 2021 and didn’t select him for any of the last 3 grand finals. In fact, prior to this year, he had only been selected in one finals match, which was 3 years ago, coincidentally the only finals match they have lost in 5 years other than the 2020 GF.

Oh, he did play in two world club challenge matches. Coincidentally lost both.

I do agree that not all comments are top calibre, but puhhhhhlease Eisenhuth ?! Just no.

Great post @The Chad

I'm not having a go at you. Just saying that because he doesn't 'look' explosive, people assume he's not any good. And yet....his numbers completely disagree with everyone's viewpoint.

I meant to say that people are writing benji off in regards to the season we've just had but what I'm saying is if we had hired a coach with experience we would still have a poor season
Have no doubt that if wed signed Flanno,we would NOT have got the spoon..simple as that
Not perfect(though a premiership winner),,brings experience,discipline and committment

100% , this is a pretty fair comment , Flanno would out smart Benji in coaching , Flanno was a bad miss by the dumb ones in charge before , Benji will need results next year , if we get spoon with Luai Benji will be gone

Just listening to Shawn Blore speak about Craig Bellamy and how tough the preseason was for those guys! Blore almost fainted a couple of times due to the intensity. It’s no secret why the Storm are so successful. It’s no fluke Bellamy has made 11 Grand Finals in 20 years which is ridiculous. They demand hard work and character.

Then I listen to Galvin on the footy show yesterday, speak about how Benji is all about creating a loving, fun environment. That’s our biggest flaw. We don’t flog our players enough to see what they’re really made of. Until that changes nothing changes at this club.
Clubs like Penrith and Melbourne have developed their identities over years, with stable coaching and clear philosophies that the players can adapt to and thrive under. Benji's methods don’t fully account for the context he’s stepped into, so certain critiques of him (and our pathways) are probably a little premature given the lack of continuity. While it’s reasonable to compare us to benchmark teams, it’s a bit unfair to overlook the foundational work done by their coaching staff. For instance, John Donehue (Melbourne's wrestling coach) has been with them since 2004, just a year after Bellamy's appointment, and the Penrith Panthers junior academy has been in place since 2016. These long-term commitments to coaching and development are key to their success, something the Tigers are still striving to establish.

As Benji builds his own roster and implements his vision, some judgments should probably be reserved until there’s more time to assess how he can shape the team and its culture. Feel it’s also important to recognise that the dynamics and ages of our current roster will largely influence how he manages them, both psychologically and physically. With several 18 year olds, building confidence and trust are likely his main goals as he’s trying to foster an environment that supports their development.

Total rubbish. He’s had success everywhere else he’s been. He was stuck here with horrible admin and horrible contracts with Packer, Mbye, Reynolds on 2.4M combined. The problem was us not him.

I’d rather have him back than the old boys of 2005.
How is it rubbish, it is fact mate, Souths were primed, Wigan were stacked with rep players, he is a one trick pony, he kept the same game plan for us, but we aren't Wigan or Souths.
We didn't have a rep team, but he kept it up every week and hoped it would change, that is madness doing the same thing every week hoping for a different result, or a coach void of ideas.
Its not rubbish, Souths senior players said its us or him, he barely had a fan apart from Hastings by the time he was ushered out of here.

I see there are still people here defending Madge. He was here nearly 4 years.
Each year we were worse.

You just conveniently ignoring the destroyed salary cap and shit players he inherited from Cleary? The incompetent front office sabotaging potential signings by blabbing to the media? The recruitment committee with Pascoe and Hartigan who Madge had to go to for signings? The injury toll he dealt with, particularly in his last year while being backstabbed by Sheenius?

I swear the Madge haters on here don’t have two brain cells to rub together.

IMO he’s proven he’s not a one trick pony at every team he’s coached except ours. Let’s agree to disagree.
