Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He’ll drag it out for sure. Probably at least wait and see half a size. Game next year so hopefully we start well.
Well put it this way:

He could earn 400k over the next 2 years, or he could earn 1.4 million. That's a pretty big incentive to sign an upgraded extension.

You can still try break a contract later on if they REALLY want to, but he's still ridiculously young. He'd become the highest paid youngster in the comp, possibly ever.

I think Miller might surprise a few people ne t year after a tough preseason.
Only if he’s willing to put in the hard work, be very disciplined, lose around 10kgs and start next season on the best physical condition he’s ever been in.
Our problem is the general mindset is players think or know they they can get away with taking shortcuts at Wests Tigers, where they know they cannot get away with it at high profile clubs or clubs with coaches with big reputations.
Latrell looks to be in the best shape he’s been in for a long, long time. Funny how that happens when he knows Wayne Bennett is back in charge.
Benji does not yet have that same aura to get players fully focused and fully committed.

Haven't we got a whole staff to do that sort of work

You would think so, but for whatever reason we regularly have players in our top 30 or next tier squads that are being prevented from playing their best due to lack of condition.
And that’s not to mention how many do not develop or perform to their best due to lack of motivation.
Players 20-40 have to be treated the same and with the same respect as the best players in the team, I’m not so sure that is happening.

You would want your middles taking the last tackle at most in yardage, and ensure they provide a quick play the ball so there is less pressure on the kicker. They should be recovering from working their arse off from the last defensive set, and the OBs/edge backrowers doing the tough work out of yardage.

The middles take their carries primarily in good field position, and run decoy in shape.
Penrith use Dylan Edwards to take the hitup prior to the kick chase so the team presents a full defensive line.

Edwards is then able to stay in position while the other 12 chase.

Most other teams are chasing with 11 players because the forward is left at the play the ball and the fullback has to get to position.

Well picked up. I'm impressed.

Surely Luai can pass on what happens at penriff

Yep Edwards & Turbo have been doing this for a couple years now. I’m sure a lot of other teams will do the same over the next few years

Wouldn't be surprised if he played more minutes this year.
But don't think it will be anywhere near enough to be of any consequence to our results.
Takes a long time for props to develop and get acclimatized to the weekly punishment of NRL.
Stef was only just able to play fairly consistently this year (age 24 season) and he was a much more refined product when he came to us.
Think Miller will get some games mid year when there's a bit of natural attrition in the pack, but if we need him to provide anything more than a bit of youthful impact for 4-6 games next year things will not be going well.

Im not sure if our fullback is suitable for this tactic.
He would probably get monstered and produce a very slow Play the ball

Agree with this but concerning thing is richo would’ve already tried this I’m sure.

And if $1m over two years is not an incentive enough than I reckon we’re only a 50/50 keeping him unless he galls in love with luai - which is a possibility

looks like spell check took over that post, I’m surprised you understood what I was saying.

The kid is only 17 and the club is shouting his signing from the rooftops. Top 30 in 2026. Nice way to lay on the pressure on him. Another thing you wouldn’t see at Melbourne, Penrith or Roosters.

Hottest prospect in the country, very ungrateful take
on his signing. Your posts are often a bit more insightful.
Ran 100m just under 10secs, 100kg, 6"2 and growing.
Playing u/18s for Australia & 1stXV, can't please every1

There’s gunna be a plenty of fullbacks out there unsuitable for that tactic, but if teams see benefit in it then fullbacks will all be that giant athlete type.

If we're not going to offer him more than $500k a year we don't deserve to keep him.

He was suggesting $700k for next two years …

I think we need to offer him $850 next two years and then go up to $1m for next 3. Do a 5 yr deal at $4.7m….

Don’t think he would say no to that

Makasini can be compared to how Joseph Suuali was considered at the same age, therefore if we didn’t put him on a top 30 contract he would have had no trouble getting it at a rival NRL club.
If it were up to me, both Makasini and Large would have been put on top 30 contracts for 2025 in order to keep them both.
I’m not a fan of just putting any young player on a top 30 contract as I think we have a few that were elevated way too early before earning it, but it is a different approach when it comes to generational talents such as Galvin, Latu Fainu, Talyn Da Silva and Makasini.
