Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

who says no to a bud Sullivan and Bateman for KPP swap? Solves their lack of halves while giving a “mentor” to young backrowers, only issue would be cap and if we can get KPP to extend before the trade
The Knights say no, because it's a dreadful offer. If they are open to getting rid of Pearce-Paul it's because they are under cap pressure or want to free up cap for something else. Why on earth would they swap 600k of salary cap liability attached to a decent player for 1.3m of salary cap liability for two players who aren't first grade standard, one of whom seems to fall out with every club he goes to? Meanwhile, Newcastle don't have a lack of halves: they have a lack of good halves - a problem the signing of Sullivan will not resolve.

The fact Marshall isn’t gone already shows nothing has changed around here.
It would be just as easy to say that reflexively firing another coach after one year in charge of a rebuild that is obviously a multi-year task would show that nothing has changed around here. The club needs to have a plan and f-ing stick to it for once. I 100% agree that Marshall may not be the answer as coach, but just making nother sacking and hoping a new guy will turn things round overnight is the kind of ill-thought-out approach the board has been running for years.

Having KPP (another POM) in the team might make Bateman feel at home .. ?? But not only that, he compliments Samaul Fainu in the 2nd row .. two tall figures who both run good lines out wide.

I say yes to both KPP and Leo Thompson .. make it happen Richo .. !!

Marshall has been here in a coaching capacity since 2022. He and Sheens took the end of 2022 off to plan our comeback whilst Noddy drowned and delivered our first spoon. He is not 1 year into a rebuild. It’s time to show some improvement on the pitch.

He’s been in the job two seasons and already stuffed his cap. It’s nothing a good operator couldn’t fix, but can he/we?
Stuffed might be a bit harsh, but it’s very tight for spots.
what is the common denominator amongst these names?

John Bateman
Chris Fa'agutu
Josh Feledy
David Klemmer
Kit Laulili'i
Justin Matamua
Brent Naden
Solomone Saukuru
Tony Sukkar

all were deals done by Tim Sheens and Warren McDonnell. coincidentally, they're just about every poor deal we've done these past few years, with Sullivan the only other.

I don't think Chris Fa'agutu has been a bad deal. Is he even in the top 30?

How they extended Naden I'll never know

Madge was good enough to get a gig at the Broncos. Good enough for them. Not for us 🤷🏻‍♂️
So in one comment you are saying the club "hasn't changed" (whatever that means) because Benji is still here and in another you are implying that sacking Madge was the wrong decision?

Seriously short memory on how awful Madge's tenure with us.

Its about time the club committed to a project. Big questions on whether Benji is the coach to do it, but sacking Benji at this point would be a mess. In saying that, pressure will be on him next year and there will need to be objective improvements in results even with a seriously flawed squad.

Fa'agutu goes to top 30 in 2025. I think he's got plenty of potential and promise but he's not ready for a top 30 deal, imo. probably a season too soon.

that said there's been many a player these last couple years that have come from nowhere. I'd be more than happy if he was the next one.
