Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He knew to, that he inherited a poor lot,
But thinks he can reserec 2005 type of team with different players to the ones we had, And he is on his way to doing that, but for some reason there is a lot of Members that want to sack another coach, and continue the same as we've been going for the last 20yrs. ????
At this stage, it doesn’t matter what us members and fans think, because it’s been decided by club power brokers that he’s coaching us next year.

And no one knows or can be sure how he will go.

I think it’s a better squad in many ways but we are still missing critical forward infrastructure. Our depth remains troubled.

I understand the argument about not changing things, but because we have failed, we need or should look to change things.

@Tucker reminded us that Benjis has had a seat at the table for three years and results haven’t gone our way.

To some extent, Benji or not, injuries might define our season one way or the other.

Benji is sure his exposure of youngsters to nrl last season is going to make a very positive impact. Especially mid season when half the side will be on crutches. I think that’s the nub of his case at the moment, or one of his central themes.

It will play out and whatever happens, I hope everyone on the forum is around to see it unfold.

If any of you experts begging for Benji to be sacked had any thoughts on how you think Ciraldo Bennett Bellamy Cleary would have faired with the same team Benji has coached these last 2 seasons,
Then put Benji into the coaching roles each of those coaches has, and you would probably be calling Benji a great coach????
lol.

Everyone here defending Benji is kind of insinuating that the Coach doesnt make a difference... it's the teams that matters above all.

WRONG.

Ask any rugby expert, commentator -- even our CEO Richo (quoted on James Grahams podcast saying this) -- the most important person to a football team is the coach.

Joel Caine said it the other day -- so did Andrew Johns and Cam Smith -- the coach is the biggest factor to a teams performance.

Yeah Benji if he went to the storm might make the 8 - because the squad is good -- but they wouldnt be performing at the level they are with Bellamy

If everyone here thinks that coaches don't make a difference then why not get any one off their street? why dodes it matter?

Why can Flanno take the same squad Giffin had -- that performed poorly for two years and nearly make the 8.

Why can Cam Ciraldo take the Bulldogs to be on the of the. best defensive teams in 2 years?

I can guarantee you one thing for sure 99.9999%.... if Bennet, Bellamy, Ciraldo, Cleary had our team -- they wouldve done better than Benji... how much better? I would say near making the 8.

Benji is a nobody coach... if he was fired or quit the tigers he wouldn't coach another team.

The only thing Benji is good for is recruitment -- we wouldnt ahve sgined Luai without him.

He should have a role bringing in juniors and helping recruit players -- that's it.

Madge wasn’t working, but I think he deserved the rest of the season.

Tim said the reason he was let go was to the effect that “ We couldn’t see him coaching next year.”

But I think the truth was that Ciraldo insisted that if we was to come, then he didn’t want a sacking on his hands. Im speculating but it makes sense.

I thought Madge should have seen out the year because total chaos ensured and Tim ended up appointing himself.

As a process it was an abomination.

We should have signed Ciraldo or had him in the bag before we let Madge go.

Otherwise anecdotal reports around the club cited that Madge was looking very uncomfortable and not enjoying himself.
He was stressing out and people were avoiding him. That could happen again.

Madge has been decent enough not to give his side of the story. We know he had strained relationships, was almost sacked at one point.

I was troubled by his statement after the dogs massacre.

I think he’s a 50/50 at Brisbane. I wish him well.
He deserved the season after with Api and Ice. This was the first year out of the Mbye, Reynolds, Packer salary cap mess.

I have no doubt he’ll get Broncos back into the top 8 next year and possibly top 4.

He’s got a lot of work to do!

The rumours are that Kevvie was getting gnarly and bitter around the club last season.

The pressure was really getting to him.

He’d be in the coaching market I guess.

If you look back a few years, it was Ivan Cleary that helped to put us in the position we are just trying to dig our way out of, and how do you know how Benji is going to go with the structure of our team when he has finally got the players he wants.

For Christ's sake give benji a go.
Benji will be given 2025 and rightly so to improve the team and challenge for the top eight. Another below par year and he will be sent packing.

Personally I hope he succeeds because I am sick of the constant sacking of coaches, while ignoring all the other problems that are in trenched at our club.

Anyway fingers crossed we will see a much better team in 2025

We need at least one more decent prop and a back rower.

I’d be going after Lodge. Cheap and is a big aggressive unit - as we know.

Madge will be under the pump in Brisbane the moment he walks in the door …

The old boys are gunning for him already … he better get off to a good atart…he won’t get a honeymoon period to find his feet..

Agreed Lodge would be good for 2 years Tito, however he is asking for big money and 3 years which is a risk.

Things must be happening in the background to free up some spots as Tumeth and even Matamua need to go, as I do not believe they will feature in FG in 2025. Matamua if he got very fit could be a weapon but he has had 3 years to do that and seems to have regressed.
Tumeth is a KOE player at best even allowing for his age, his size is not suited for the NRL They can stay in the squad but need to have KOE contracts not top 30.

As has been said a thousand times to judge someone's coaching ability on the rabble we have had the last few years is pretty ignorant. Bellamy and Bennet wouldn't have done better with the KOE squad we had disguised as first graders, fact.
Are you kidding ? You are equating Benji to the best 2 coaches ever in NRL.
He can't coach and has 2 spoons to prove that. I dont know why others on this forum want to give him another year to prove again he is not a first grade coach. The damage will be greater than this year with the loss of possibly promising juniors.

Obviously you know everything,
If so Please explain,
How did Ivan go when he coached us, then how has he gone at Panthers, ????

No chance! He would have been sacked very quickly at any other club on his performance. He is not a coach. He is a learner and we need someone who can coach with expeirence.

KPP for bud and Bateman was a pure fantasy and a joke, thought more would catch on lol. Solves our issues and adds to there’s 😃

Great response to a really silly whataboutism.
This is Benji’s third preseason with this squad.
Time to perform.

dont agree but respect your position.

I think our forward pack with the right coach was top 8... Api, Stef, Bateman, Paps, Klem... just poor coaching killed their spirits and they (3 of them) wanted to leave.

Certainly we were on par with the Dolphins squad and look what bennet did with them -- also flanno at the dragons -- both teams nearly made the 8... that's what i think a good coach wouldve done for us. close to making the 8... not two wooden spoons.
Dolphins also had the Hammer & Herbie Farnworth in their backline. Dragons had Hunt, Lomax & Suli in theirs.

The squads we’ve had the past 2 years have been heaps better than those other coaches had to contend with here.
Your take is the ignorant one.
