Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The "FOX" is being shopped around .. St George, Parramatta and Souths are the most likely destination of the FOX World Tour. Apparently the Dragons offered a straight swap for the FOX with Mikaeke Ravalawa .. but the Bulldogs said hell no .. !! With the FOX being close friends with Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker .. the Burrow looks the most likely destination. Not sure if the FOX is type of player new Parra coach Jason Ryles is looking for.

Dragons are also looking at throwing Clint "King Gutho" Gutherson a life line.

I’m not sure Souths could afford it with Latrell, AJ, Graham, Wighton and Walker all on good coin in their backline.

they also signed Lewis Dodd on $700k, the apparent next big halfback out of England that was dumped to reserve grade midway thru this year.

Madge was good enough to get a gig at the Broncos. Good enough for them. Not for us 🤷🏻‍♂️
Yeah the Broncos are the gold standard for identifying a good coach right.
In the history of the club they fluked one good coach in Wayne Bennett.
They also let Bellamy go.
Other than that, they're littered with the corpses of failures who were eventually stabbed in the back.

Any chance of this thread transcending the failed coach obsession or maybe setting up a different thread for this mental illness so that people don't waste their time clicking on this rubbish.

wrong…

Not exactly wrong.
He may of been confirmed / welcomed by Ivan Cleary but only weeks earlier then that Taylor was our coach.
McQueen was talked about as a signing for us throughout the whole 2016/2017 pre season.

Dragons will go to another level with Gutho. Flanno seems to get the most out of his players.

The Broncos are the model for how the 'old boys club" influence/have power over a club. It would be fair to argue that the major part of their success has been largely on the back of a wealth of football talent - rather than effective leadership off the field.
The appointment of Maguire signals an attempt to take a different direction, but his window will be very small given the pushback from those not happy about the appt and the media that will be sweating on it.

There were quite a few on here saying we don’t need Nathan, we have Brooks, wow, just wow was all I could say at the time. There were a heap on here who didn’t rate young Cleary, that’s why I still laugh at the names they come up with for recruitment nowadays
Mate, as unbelievably stupid as it is, there are people on here who still dont rate him.

It appears he was announced in the media 2017 during the period between the two coaches …which I have checked was about 5 months…

Taylor got the bullet in March that year…

McQueen might be one of Pascoe’s after all

He wasn’t a bad signing at the time. The problem was he broke his neck after he signed with us and was pretty much cactus after that. It’s hard to be critical of anyone in that deal.

He had neck injury problems for years … he may have further aggrevated/worsened it after signing with us … but it was something he was dealing with long term

I think they’re doing the Bulldogs thing.

creating a strong culture off the back of some experienced professionals that’ll pave the way for the youngsters to come thru.

they’ve got some good’uns. Halangahu, Finau Latu, Tonga Jr, Jesse Williams, Hayden Buchanan, Kade Reed. Flanno knows what he’s sitting on.
No doubt they've got a few decent juniors. Halangahu being the pick of the bunch.

I see Flanno's approach as slightly different.

Where the Dogs bought workers to combine with stars with long-term viability (Burton, Kikau, Mahoney, Crighton), I see the Dragons as trying to front-load their squad with yesterday's heroes who still have a bit to offer, hoping to keep them functioning long enough to help the transition to their next crop.

Hunt, Holmes, Faitala-Mariner, Cook, possibly Gutho and Fox and the likes seem to be his target market.

I also think the Bulldogs formula is the exception rather than the rule and I don't expect to see them finish 6th again next year. Much like Canberra, Wahs and Parra over the last 4 years, I think they had their 'catch fire' year and it all clicked (which is still a wonderful effort), but I don't personally see the undeniable change in talent and consistency to continue to march up the ladder.

I can't see the Dragons breaking into the top four anytime soon with their current setup. They've still got to sort out their halfback situation, their hookers are serviceable at best. Their fullback is talented, but inconsistent and their back 5, in general, had career-best years, including the bloke who has now left in Lomax, who single-handedly won them several games this season, including against us.

They'll be fine. But I'm not buying anything close to a premiership push for them anytime soon. I think they're destined to linger between 7th and 15th for a while yet.

...and I say that knowing full well that we're firmly planted to the foot of the ladder, haha.

Great discussion to be had, but difficult to do properly in this type of format. If only there was a vocal-based medium that would be conducive to such a long-winded and detailed discussion, a 'pod- cast' as it where... haha.
