Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

St George Illawarra are considering making a play for Wests Tigers utility Adam Doueihi after informing Ben Hunt he had permission to begin negotiating with rival clubs immediately.

The Dragons have had internal discussions about making a play for Doueihi, who is a free agent after November 1.

The Tigers have not been able to move a number of players in their roster and the Dragons are willing to entertain the idea of Doueihi joining the club immediately if the Tigers are willing to release him.

Doueihi is on a deal worth around $350,000 at the Tigers next year.

Hunt’s future at the Dragons is up in the air as it grows increasingly likely that he has played his final game for the red V.

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking under the condition of anonymity due to confidentiality told this masthead that the Dragons held a board meeting on Tuesday and decided to allow Hunt the opportunity to begin speaking with rival clubs for 2026 before the November 1 free agency date.
can't imagine we'll stand in his way if there's an opportunity for him to play in his preferred position in first grade elsewhere.

Drop him off at Kogarah with a string & bow on his head

I thought the Cowboys had cap problems and now they are being linked to Cobbo on a big fat contract. Like the Dogs, Chook and a few other clubs, they always have cap space for the right player

They can have Sullivan back.

Also if Doueihi is on 350k then our club really was still a shambles last year. Our opening offer was minimum salary, and even that was generous given he hadn't played more than a handful of matches in 2 years. If he managed to negotiate us up by 200k then whomever was handling our negotiations last year should be replaced by someone more competent. I can't imagine Richo would cave to a player when we held all the cards.
I've never been a Doueihi fan but thought he wasn't a bad re-signing at the reported minimum value. At $350K I hope Dragons take him.

mate I'd love to be wrong, just the way I see it. Kiraz, Xerri and Tracey would be on approx $400k each, and Mann's off contract end of 2025, so they do have that money to spend if they opt to redirect it elsewhere. for the sake of this conversation, I reckon they've got around $1 million to play with to lure someone externally, with additional cash to throw at upgrades and extensions.

they look to be after a middle forward, that'll be more than enough for them to be in the mix for Thompson, Willison and others to round out their squad I'd say.
Xerri will be getting offers of 700k for 2026 and beyond.
They got Jacob Preston and Jacob Kiraz for a steal, be interesting to see if they upgrade them to their true value or not,

The thing is we resigned him as a good will gesture, to add a bit of experience and depth to the squad in our current position but I was under no illusion that the extension was his last contract with the WTs.
Also with it being arranged for another year so close to Nov 1, there was a chance he could improve out of sight or be picked up by another club for the 25 season for experience.
Whilst I don’t agree with the contract amount it wasn’t a contract that was going to hamper us long term.

Most of the organisation will be on leave right now. Membership team aside, even digi would be on a skeleton staff, there's very little content for them right now until pre-season starts.
Still it's a big oversight BB & Richo would be on the blower to Chris Warren to get it sorted even if he's at the pool bar in Thailand. Very bad look if we forget one of our most promising juniors & don't fix it asap.

I always thought the Doueihi signing was a tad premature and not what was needed at the time. If he can get a multi year deal more power to him. At the price $350 (I think that's a stretch) he's easier to offload than Bud the roster spot is more invaluable to us right now. We could tie down Si Fainu or sign a back rower.

Just reading that the Dragons have given Ben Hunt the ok to check out his options for 2025+. They are supposedly making a play for Adam Douehi to fill a halves role ( which is where he wants to play).
Interesting to see what happens !
