Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Canterbury have plenty of money in their cap. Burton, Kikau and Crichton would be their highest earners and wouldn’t take home any more than $850k.

Addo-Carr, Mahoney, Preston, King, Curran, Sexton and Tupouniua would all be around the $600k mark, with JAC about to head for the exits.

the rest would be on peanuts. they will be able to outbid most clubs in the market for middle forwards, including us. we’ve got a battle on our hands come November 1.
And they have signed the roosters forward and a player from England and the only one left is our winger signing

I read that the dogs are fav to sign THompson from the knights , I just don’t get it , how the hell 1) have spare spots 2) how they are fitting all these players under the cap .
He is the player we need , we got the money just go get him
The first ‘dogs’ like thing we did was signed Faatape to a dev contract and later Johansson to a T&T.
You look at their Top 30. They have 28 players + 2 dev for 2025 and a whooping 9 players (2 dev) without contracts for next year.
Faamusulili, Tetevano have retired.
For 26 only 15/30 are signed leaving plenty of wiggle room for a massive Nov1 assault.
*all this is not considering the position of JAC.

Possibly, though they also have Kiraz, Tracey, Mann and Xerri who all had somewhat breakout years and have got/will be in the market for an upgrade of sorts, or, at least, earning middle-tier money. There's also Oloapu on 500k and the likes of Woods et al coming through who will need some money put aside to retain them.

I'm maybe a bit more dubious on their cap position than you are, jr.

If he was charged and before a magistrate in a criminal case, the prosecutor would be saying something like,

"We will be providing evidence to the court that the accused is guilty as charged, however, there were extenuating circumstances and we believe that he did not act alone."
“Benjis been handing out alibis all season my Lordship.”

“The witness Richo, I’d ask this court to refrain from giving too much weight to his pronouncements of progress where the pack remains in limbo, if not in worse shape than whence he doth found it.”

“ All but the most imaginative or delusional of juror’s could return a verdict other than yet another season of absolute guilt.”

“And the matey, my lord, it still lives and breathes in the gizzards of the white elephant.”

“ Not a centre of excellence, but a centre of the matey, a tribute to the nod and wink and where merit does not stand a chance.”

“Warrants, my lordship, let them doth issue. A course to apprehend and arrest the entire hb management for a star chamber inquisition as to their fitness to continue manage our beloved club.”

“Our fans and members, we are Tigers led by donkeys.”

mate I'd love to be wrong, just the way I see it. Kiraz, Xerri and Tracey would be on approx $400k each, and Mann's off contract end of 2025, so they do have that money to spend if they opt to redirect it elsewhere. for the sake of this conversation, I reckon they've got around $1 million to play with to lure someone externally, with additional cash to throw at upgrades and extensions.

they look to be after a middle forward, that'll be more than enough for them to be in the mix for Thompson, Willison and others to round out their squad I'd say.

So what do we think team, has Miller no longer got a contract with us?

Name on the bench for Fiji.

Image below on WT website.

Link to article below. Absolutely no mention of Miller. References Ipap who is leaving. Turuva coming & lower grades players but no Miller. I assume he's gone.

Mentioned this in another thread .....guessing incompetence from the WT media team

St George Illawarra are considering making a play for Wests Tigers utility Adam Doueihi after informing Ben Hunt he had permission to begin negotiating with rival clubs immediately.

The Dragons have had internal discussions about making a play for Doueihi, who is a free agent after November 1.

The Tigers have not been able to move a number of players in their roster and the Dragons are willing to entertain the idea of Doueihi joining the club immediately if the Tigers are willing to release him.

Doueihi is on a deal worth around $350,000 at the Tigers next year.

Hunt’s future at the Dragons is up in the air as it grows increasingly likely that he has played his final game for the red V.

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking under the condition of anonymity due to confidentiality told this masthead that the Dragons held a board meeting on Tuesday and decided to allow Hunt the opportunity to begin speaking with rival clubs for 2026 before the November 1 free agency date.

There was this in Buzz’s column on Sunday. Hope it’s not related.

Which rising youngster is about to be sacked from his club? His top 30 deal is set to be ripped up because of off-field issues.
I imagine it's just carelessness. Our digi team are pretty poor. If Miller had a poor attitude he wouldn't have featured so much in NRL and for the Magpies. He would have been benched in Cup or sent to Massey.

He's the best prop we have coming through the ranks, and a position we're very skinny on moving forwards. We have soooo many mini props at the club under 180cm, he's almost the only one who represents a different build type and skillset.

We have many expendable juniors we can offload to free up cap space, he should not be one of them.

They can have Sullivan back.

Also if Doueihi is on 350k then our club really was still a shambles last year. Our opening offer was minimum salary, and even that was generous given he hadn't played more than a handful of matches in 2 years. If he managed to negotiate us up by 200k then whomever was handling our negotiations last year should be replaced by someone more competent. I can't imagine Richo would cave to a player when we held all the cards.

What I can't fathom is, if it was an oversight from the WT media team, they have had 6 days now to edit the article & graphic to include Jordan Miller. Yet it's still the same!
Most of the organisation will be on leave right now. Membership team aside, even digi would be on a skeleton staff, there's very little content for them right now until pre-season starts.

The Dogs have far more players on big bucks than we do. We could still easily double their bid.

They also have the likes of Xerri and a few other youngsters they need to upgrade. Burton due an upgrade, they need to extend kikau, mahoney etc. they don't have too much space, unless they want to clear the decks again

can't imagine we'll stand in his way if there's an opportunity for him to play in his preferred position in first grade elsewhere.

Drop him off at Kogarah with a string & bow on his head

I thought the Cowboys had cap problems and now they are being linked to Cobbo on a big fat contract. Like the Dogs, Chook and a few other clubs, they always have cap space for the right player

I've never been a Doueihi fan but thought he wasn't a bad re-signing at the reported minimum value. At $350K I hope Dragons take him.
