Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The other thing everyone also forgets please some me 1 game. Literally 1 when we fielded our strongest 17.

We did not all year it was either suspension or injury.

We get our discipline right & let's hope the S&C team are onto it under Richo makes a huge difference!

Add in attitude & positive leadership of more than Api we will be better.

I want Bateman gone no doubt - but a bit strange to be telling him he'll be starting in reserves before we've even got to pre-season. Not like we're spoilt with options either..

To be honest, I suspect you're guilty of making a common mistake, which is imagining a player can somehow become what he was five or so years ago even after demonstrating over and over again that he's past it. There were people on here insisting that James Roberts could still be a great player if we "got him some early ball" or something they'd heard on commentary. Face facts: Bateman is a hasbeen and if we can get any of his salary paid and his roster spot back we should jump at the chance.
Not at all,
Bateman is no where near where he needs to be....
And not what I thought he'd be off the back of the WC before he landed here.
He's been left to take the p*ss on the back off pathetic culture and a coach who's booking his bye week holidays as we speak - And that's exactly what he's done.

Everyone is 'Confident' We'll have no trouble replacing him....
We haven't even replaced Papali'i yet - And he's been gone for most of this year....
And with both we were still crap and short in that position.
How are we replacing both and adding to that position in the next 2 weeks exactly?

Seems to me all we're doing is freeing up a roster spot to fill with some nufty or underwhelming kid that's not ready for Grade, Whilst contributing to Manlys' charge at a title next year.
We're a walkover...

I believe Richo knows his stuff, I hope he's on top of it all.... But that's all anyone has - Hope.
So far (Outside Luai) Our recruitment for next year has been amongst the worst in the comp.
And we're already last!!

Richo (Without the cashed up Gladiator in his corner) hasn't done a great deal in the last 2 Decades....

I can come up with some theories & my latest is Bateman & Naden to Manly.

1 - Generational talent Large (akin to a Top 4 AFL draft pick so has high value IMO) released to Manly.
2 - Bateman managed by Isaac Moses, Seibold’s manager.
3 - Bateman recruited to WT by Sheens & Warren Macdonnell. WMac now Manly’s recuitment manager.
4 - Manly could use another backrower.
5 - Naden recruited by WMac to WT too. Would be good depth there.

Who is with me?
Genius!

I imagine this would be to test his character and desire to be here and prove management wrong. Or pack up shop and head to another club

A nufty is better than Bateman.

I feel like you overlooked the biggest additions.
And what would that be , hunt yes good pick up but not a noted worker horse , bird I think will be slotted into a centre spot , he also is a good signing but again not a game breaker , the club will again be a joke if we roll out all those blokes u put up , there not up to it against must of those other forward packs . Surely after this year u got to realise this , we how have a very very good back line but it will mean bugger all with a crap pack

Pole takes Utoikamanu's spot
Koroisau
Klemmer
Sam Fainu
Seyfarth takes Bateman's spot
Bird takes Papali'i's spot

Sione Fainu takes Pole's numbers (game time)
Hunt takes Sione Fainu's numbers (game time)
Twal
Da Silva

What we now need is Miller, Fa'agutu, Kit Lualili'i, Matamua, Johannssen & Sukkar to start pushing to take reps away from Twal.

I'm sure I'm about to hear how terrible this pack is going to be. But the same people telling me this, are the same one's telling me how rubbish Utoikamanu, Bateman & until Round 20 2024, Papali'i have been.

The step down from 2024 Utoikamanu to 2024 Pole is rather minimal. It wouldn't take MUCH progression for this to be a wash.

Bateman can just be replaced by Porter according to some. I'd argue that Seyfarth is the better option. Regardless, 2024 Bateman to 2024 Seyfarth, if you believe the critics on the forum, is probably an upgrade.

So that leaves the colossus that was Papali'i, who until the tail end of 2024, was in consideration as the worst signing in Tigers history. He's gone & replaced with Bird. Who, for the record, hasn't tried to get out of his contract since signing & is, in fact, leading the charge on pre-season training.

It COULD be argued, our pack is in fact stronger, if we accept the criticism of the players leaving the club.

Sione Fainu will be relied upon to upgrade his game to Pole-level play next season. Unless Royce Hunt takes that role, in which Fainu only need replicate his 2024 output. Twal replaces Seyfarth on the bench. Da Silva is Api's sub.

That's 10 forwards, not including development of the other 6 I named in Johannssen, Miller, Sukkar, Lualili'i, Fa'agutu & Matamua.
all I’m going to say is go back and watch the last game , and watch how when stef comes back on , it’s a freeway through the middle . He straight up quit on his mates . Quit on himself , and quit on the club .
You can say it’s the last game . Sure ! But take that game and the obvious lack of mental toughness .
And now transpose that to any game where we went into that game with the “if stef plays like he did last week/ against them X , we will win this “. And most of those types of games , eg . Against the roosters , he wasn’t up for it .
I honestly do not see that player as a loss . If it means his spot is up for grabs , good . So it should be . and should be a turnstile until some young prop , goes , I’m going to go out there and absolutely give it to the best props in the game .
There is 1 player I did see that in last year , and his name was Tim Johannson . His issue was he needs an nrl offseason in the gym to help his body match his intent .
He was most definitely up for the fight . And what was clear in all the games i saw of him, when he was on the field you knew it . He affected the outcome .

we released him early to Manly when we could've easily just kept him and made things difficult. we've overseen a lot of his development to this point. despite the fact that he's yet to play first grade and far from the finished article, right now he's a blue chip stock.

bit of we scratched your back, time to scratch ours.
It looked that way at the time, that there was a favour coming in return.

I love the way our recruitment has been among the worst in the comp other than signing one of the handful of best halves in the world. Also we signed the 2023 rookie of the year, who just had a beast of a game in the preliminary final and grand final. We're certainly being left in the dust by the devastating recruitment wins of such outfits as:
Brisbane: no signings
Raiders: Myles Martin, Matty Nicholson, Ethan Sanders, Savelio "that's a hot" Tamale
Bulldogs: Tom Amone, Marcelo Montoya, Sitili Tuponiua
Titans: Tukimihia Simpkins
Manly: Jazz Tevaga
Knights: Taj Annan, Francis Manuleleua, James Schiller
Cowboys: Karl Lawton, Kai O'Donnell
Parramatta: Dean Hawkins, Isaiah Longi, Zac Lomax, Jack Williams
Souths: Euan Aitken, Gerome Burns, Lewis Dodd, Lachlan Hubner, Jamie Humphreys, Max McCarthy, Josh Schuster
Dragons: Damien Cook, Valentine Holmes
Roosters: Chad Townsend

All those clubs are laughing at our pathetic haul of Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva, Royce Hunt and Jeral Skelton, I bet.

??? What has that got to do with anything ? It’s hard for anyone to justify his form this past year . It’s no different to QLD picking players who have been borderline dropped by thier NRL team . Like Gagai at times in his career .
Doesn’t mean thier club form wasn’t shit though , no matter how they play in that game .
They have proven in the past they can play at a high level and are trusted to do so again.
It’s far easier to blame the player rather than the toxic environment that allowed or maybe even caused the form to drop.

You are talking about a step down from a pack that ran last.

Exactly.

Hilarious statement.

Please let me emphasise this before you read below, THIS IS A SPECULATION AND THEORY

I’m sure by now we’ve all either seen or heard some stuff about Jordan Miller, and the potential situation he is leaving. I would like to bring light to Fonua Pole’s brother Suli who has very very high wraps on him. In Sydney today training with Fonua and Sua Faalogo. You might ask how this is relevant, he was training in a WT shirt. Potentially something cooking there since he is contracted to the Melbourne Storm but in WT gear when fonua isn’t, or just a supportive brother who either got given bc he forgot a shirt to train it or chose to wear his brothers team as a joke.

Check Sua faalogo instagram story to see it from 6 hours ago
