Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mate re-read my comment I'm hardly a Maguire fan boy calling his time here an utter failure. I didnt comment on the players being 'off-him'. I didn't justify Musgroves contract. I clearly stated he was over paid though I'd say the duration was probably worse than the actual salary.
You stated it Maumalo was easy to offload because he wasn't cheap. How does that work? The cheaper the player the easier to move on. We are struggling now to offload the likes of Sullivan specifically because he did not come cheap.

Edit. According to our own Leilua thread he was on 1.4m (from us) over 3 years = 466k a year. Overs for what he produced for us but unders for his standing in the game at the time. Also Couldn't see any comments in the thread about him being a dud buy at the time.
It was backended / the final year was 650k sooo …. Yea . Anyways I couldn’t care less about semantics . The point is Madge didn’t attract players because he couldn’t attract players , it had very little to do with being constrained by the salary cap , and most of the decisions he did make were shit . Why? Because players don’t want to play for him . They still don’t . Say what you will about the failed lattrell chase , and whether we were on a hiding to nothing , but I guarantee having Madge as coach was a huge deterrent , as much as any other reason .
My point to all this is simple . If madge or anyone else is looking for a person to blame for his failure ? Then yep that person is Madge himself . So spare us all with this reoccurring stupidity around him as a coach . He wasn’t good here . And it was 💯 his own fault .

I mentioned earlier in another thread I forgot where
that Terrell's laid back attitude when it comes to
footy suits Benji's mantra of home/footy life, it's
not that serious for some of these guys, it doesn't
mean they don't want 2 win or aren't fully committed -
they just have a different approach 2 life & the game

As if the majority on this forum lives only for the job they do. He hasn’t said anything offensive or of worry. People just panic because we have been bitten so often before by crap retirement players.

Rooster didn’t punt him for off field issues.

Some on here had no problem with Hunt (who said he was looking to retire) signing or Api extending both on retirement deals now.

May played 29 games with decent minutes as a prop this year not including trials - that’s not a sign of player with a bad work ethic/trainer/someone who hates the game.

If anything it shows he has worked out the right balance that works for him.

What rubbish. Roosters, Sharks & Storm all have major party animals on their rosters… Sharks and Roosters just resigned a chunk of them.

Maybe May asked for a release rather than the Roosters saying go get stuffed. Maybe the Roosters let him go - either way who cares really. As if we don’t have party animals in the squad already. Re the Roosters with Smith, Spencer, Crichton and a few others 100% know off field culture isn’t a focus at the Roosters.

May played 29 games (Roosters and Samoa) for a prop this season, played hard as well - like cmon it’s clear May wants to play footy & got his head right re gametime & training. We would be dumb not to show serious interest in him.
His playing footy isn't the problem.

His objecting to Benji and driving the team to crap is. .. I don't believe Benji, Heighington or Hodges will control him.

I thought we had a no Richard Head policy? It's not if he goes doing crazy XYZ that's the problem, it's that he will take a stack of Tigers team mates with him.

Although. There is one person on the team who may be able to control him. Luai, that I will give you.

You realise contracts get backended for 2 reasons. The main one being there is no cap space available for the initial year/s of the contract. You are kind of proving the point that the cap Maguire took over was a mess.
We can agree Madge wasn't good here. I'd agree that it is primarily his own fault (wouldn't say 100percent his own).
However will have to agree to disagree around the circumstances of why he couldn't attract players until his final year here.
