Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Really? I don’t think he’s forgotten at all. He’s mentioned every single the day. The forgotten man for me is To’a. I saw a pic of him at training yesterday, and it made me realise that I had forgotten he existed.
Forgotten in- as a chance of playing.

Nearly everyone in here has To'a, Staines, Fataape, Makasini, Taylan May, Owen Craigie & Pat Richards ahead of him.

I imagine he's higher up the pecking order than given credit for. It's like Seyfarth & the coaches liking him, he's higher up the pecking order than given credit for too.

Only people seem to dislike Seyfarth more than Doueihi.

No, it's completely different. At this time last year there was no hype over Lobb, only after the trials did anyone say anything.
Johannsen played first grade this year after fighting his way up from Massey. And was a standout in Cup, with several man of the match performances. Praise on him is based on how we've seen him perform throughout 2024, where's no one had really seen Lobb at all so to completely different scenarios

The hype was all about his size & not actually about Lobb playing ability.

If Bird plays #13, which is a good chance, that puts To'a, Doueihi & Staines in a fight for 1 outside back position.

Weirdly- the forgotten man in this three is Doueihi.

Everyone has essentially written him off. I would not be surprised at all, if he is the guy. He's easily the most damaging runner of all three. Even coming back from injury last year, he was generating some really good metres per game.

Even in Richo's pod cast interview- nearly everyone latched on to the comment on Matamua, but not one mention of Richo mentioning Doueihi.
Doueihi’s intent with the ball surprised me this year, but it disappeared when it was time to defend. that’s why he’s been written off.

he’s got the highest ceiling of all three, but his attitude stinks defensively.

Good to hear Richo name drop Matamua. There's a bit about him. Bit of a luxury player you can't carry in a team like ours last year, but the team we are building there is absolutely a place for him at 13
if he finds the mongrel that we crave from him then he is the best option we have to play lock. his technical skill is elite.

problem is that can’t be coached. it has to come from within.

If he stays for at least the start of the season he is playing for a contract so maybe he will sort himself out for a period.

His defence was a problem.

Have to wonder though, in a better team, more experienced players inside & outside of him, if there is less "hero-ball" in him & he plays more in his defensive lane.

I expect this to be the case for a few players- not just Doueihi. Once the players either side of our poorer defenders are either better/more experienced/less likely to suffer from rookie errors- I expect these poor defenders to be less magnified.

I actually think he could be a Smokey for a wing spot

problem with a lot of these backs is that they have very high ceilings, but very low floors.

I’d love for you to be right. if he shows a jersey in defence consistently that’s a good enough backline to play outside Luai, Galvin and Bula.

Then who is our best goal kicker.

Api goes ok.
I’m pretty sure API had the highest % going into this year, but his year wasn’t great and he doesn’t have a big boot so I think he struggled with most of our few tries being scored out wide. I haven’t checked the stats on it since last year.
But doobie (the automated ticket collector), should not be the nrl side for his goal kicking bcoz it’s as average as his defence.
GK=74.14%
TE=83.3%

Well there you go. I didn’t think Adam could have a worse part to his game than his Tackle Efficiency, but his GK is actually worse.

Api has 78% GK.

If you watch Toa live he is the most low energy disinterested player on the field. If he had pockets he would have his hands in them. Wanders around like an eight year old on scabbo duty.
The secret to Toa is getting to play like he did against the cowboys at leichardt. He has it in him. If we’re winning consistently that could happen.
Not making excuses, but it’s hard when you’re not winning. I think most players in our team can be guilty of getting frustrated, not trying at times.

Ah

Look I kinda like Toa, he seemed a goodish buy at the time.

No way at Toa's best is he better then Olam at his best.
Sure Toa at his best may have been better then Olam last year.

We have options this year:
Wing - Staines, Skelton, Naden (if he hasnt been punted yet), Mason
Fullback - Bula, Mason, Latu (maybe, it's one way to get him in the team.)
Centers - Olam, Bird, Faatape, Latu

I do like Toa, but he hasn't excelled here. I can't see him getting better.
He really is a second choice reserve at the moment. 2024 was the year for him to hit it out of the park.
Now, well now lets see if this ragamuffin team can break the top 10. (not optimistic enough to break the 8, but at least get us above 12th).
Completely agree, but I’m hoping with some success and competition he’ll go to another level.

Also, I think he’s better than Olam can be now. Not better than Olam has been in past.

Is there any podcast with Richo where he talks about pathways and needing the reserve grade team to play well to create competition for NRL spots?

He has a point, Souths senior players said it's him or us, and he got sacked a couple years after winning a premiership, so he must of really been on the nose, and his tenure here was a disaster, we got worse each year

He doesn’t have a point as he’s claiming that Madge is vindictive, thin skinned and trying to out the knife in us which is just a flat out lie. He hasn’t come out and bashed the club despite having every reason to after the shit sandwich they handed him which I’ve already gone into detail about.

There’s a lot that went down at Souths that you can’t fault Madge for. Crowe driving Keary out, resigning Burgess for 1.5mil and forcing a lot of the GF winners out of the team etc

And which senior players? Because I doubt it was Inglis or Burgess, the two most senior players during his time there. Inglis re-signed roughly the same time Madge signed an extension. and my understanding is that he still has a good relationship with Sam Burgess and was one of the people pushing him to go into coaching.
