Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

In the article it says a Wishlist so they do have people in mind.
Yes, as in, out of all the positional signings they could make, they would dearly like another backrower. That is, adding another backorder to the squad is something that's on their wishlist.

That's the way I've read it.

I'm thinking 10th sounds about right to me, anything higher is a bonus.
I can only wish.
The roster is good enuff for 10th ..or better...even with the glaring gaps...bur question marks remain over Benji as coach.
Hes the one on trial next season imo..tho he(with Richo) has attracted considerable talent.

Really the debut of the one Brad Fittler changed the course of history .
Until then debuting at 21 or 22 was the norm .
From memory , and I could be wrong , but I think there was a massive increase in teenagers debuting way too early in the 90s really culminating in Jordan Rankin debuting at 16 in the mid 2000s ( thanks Greg for the inevitable correction in advance , it’s really appreciated , and not self serving at all ) .
Thankfully only the absolute unicorns debut that early nowadays . Everyone seems to have seen reason .
Still won’t stop Makasini and Large debuting this year for us and manly though .
You can go back a bit further than Fittler. Steve Rogers, Terry Lamb and Gavin Miller all debuted at 18. They are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. The one thing that ties them together is they were all very talented footballers unlike some of the debuts you see these days.

Nah I just meant , the whole schoolboy debut was such a huge event at the time . I think Tim brasher debuted a year later similarly .

Well unless the club has a ready made replacement for Bateman , I think paying $300 for him to play somewhere else is a joke , we are down $300 and no back up player , and don’t even think that a reserve grade player can take his spot , we seen how bad there were this year
Think thats the current plan tbh,
Batemab/Moses wont leave without a considerable subsidy..which is pretty stoopid as he is desperate to go..but Moses is pulling his strings
Were somewhat committed to Sione ..at around the $300k mark, which is Batemans price less our subsidy...so net net,,we lose an international forward for one of the brothers..totally unproven.
Its not a plus for us
If were gonna improe this team,we need better

folks want him gone without any decent replacement,
It's madness. We need to sure up that right edge
defensively, and Bateman helps in that department.

The fact is, is that we would have to replace him with
someone, paying 300k to play elsewhere (whilst
remaining weak in that position is genuinely stupid).
He is already on our books & his salary has been
accounted for. 1 more year from him then we'll see.

Bateman doesn't want to be there.

Yes. And moreover it pales in comparison to the NFL where the rookie debuts as a quarterback.

Yeah tbh we are not in a bad situation. Bateman is actually needed so if he walks without a payout that's fine. If he digs his heels in then so be it, he will be starting 2nd rower. 2026 he can go. But honestly 2nd row we need him at the moment.
