Good Article and pretty spot on me thinks..time will tellArticle mentions there’s a backrower they want to sign if Bateman leaves. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/th...-rebuild-of-wests-tigers-20241129-p5kukd.html
Won’t that be Siones spot ?Article mentions there’s a backrower they want to sign if Bateman leaves. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/th...-rebuild-of-wests-tigers-20241129-p5kukd.html
I'd agree with all that except Klemmer. His experience in the pack and competitiveness is needed in the teamFrom this list of off contracted players I'd only be keeping Seyfarth....A good worker which every club needs.
Adam Doueihi, Josh Feledy, Justin Matamua, Brent Naden, Alex Seyfarth, Charlie Staines, Brandon Tumeth
And if we can add Bud Sullivan, Klemmer and Bateman to that list, we are in a great position for 2026.
Anyone post the article up?Article mentions there’s a backrower they want to sign if Bateman leaves. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/th...-rebuild-of-wests-tigers-20241129-p5kukd.html
No one is saying he's going to turn into an origin player in an off season. No one is saying he'll be Ellis. He's just a very good young prospect, something which we have very little of in the forwards. And hopefully he can transition into a first grader next season.
First step is to get him on a development contract next year, cut faatape, and promote TJ. Make him full-time, and then see what he can do.
The prospect of him turning into a first grader is more likely than us signing a top prospect for our top 30. He was a standout in NSW cup, despite having no preseason with any team, and starting the year off in Ron massey...
I'd have thought so, but if you also listen to other bits where the talk is that if no shift in January they will pay out someone (presumably Tumuth / Sukkar / Doueihi) so they could also use 2 alternate tracks to a/ sign a new forward b/ bring in Fainu from T&T. Bit confusing but possible to do both by sounds of it.Won’t that be Siones spot ?

Well I can't argue with that.No it’s not the be all, end all, unless you’re the quickest to the ball when the game is on the line?
Dude? Of course there’s more to the game but, Speed helps everyone at everything.
Really the debut of the one Brad Fittler changed the course of history .Hasn't been like that since around 2010-2012 I reckon,
Remember blokes Like David Gower absolutely blitzing Ressies and
couldn't even get Full Time Training...
Been dishing them up to anyones ever since.
Josh Hannay was selected to debut at 16, but the ARL blocked it.Really the debut of the one Brad Fittler changed the course of history .
Until then debuting at 21 or 22 was the norm .
From memory , and I could be wrong , but I think there was a massive increase in teenagers debuting way too early in the 90s really culminating in Jordan Rankin debuting at 16 in the mid 2000s ( thanks Greg for the inevitable correction in advance , it’s really appreciated , and not self serving at all ) .
Thankfully only the absolute unicorns debut that early nowadays . Everyone seems to have seen reason .
Still won’t stop Makasini and Large debuting this year for us and manly though .
Played back row in firsts for Manly and for NSW 19s. Think the thoughts were he'd end up as a middleWasn't Samuela Fainu considered to be a prop up until he came to the Wests Tigers?
I may be wrong but I thought that was where he played all his football before coming to us.
If that was the case, then it seems like he made a pretty quick transformation after arriving at Concord.
I'd say the NYC was a bigger game changer. It really switched the emphasis on feeder from reserve grade to youth age competition. The disconnect between reserve grade and first grade has sped up this. The old pathway was to come into the club (be graded) and work your way up. If you were injured you used reserve grade to return. Reserve grade was on the same day, with the same team at a proper ground and there was no stigma. Nowadays you're playing for a different team on a different day in front of a hundred people in a park. Anyone worth a pinch of salt doesn't want to do it.Really the debut of the one Brad Fittler changed the course of history .

Adam Ritson was 16. The controversy around him may have been the catalyst for the ARL lifting the minimum age to 17.Josh Hannay was selected to debut at 16, but the ARL blocked it.
Kalomatangi Is a middle now. But you replace him with Murray. I doubt Schuster will be a factor, at least early on, same with Fletcher. And Duncan will be a bench forward.Souths currently have Kalomatangi, Jai Arrow, Tallis Duncan, Josh Schuster and young up and comer Thomas Fletcher all competing for their edge forward NRL positions.
It doesn’t make sense they would add John Bateman without letting someone on that list go, therefore I’d say Richo/Benji are wanting someone in return if we did send Bateman their way.
Duncan and Fletcher would be the most likely targets as both are young, not on big contract money and look to have plenty of upside.
I think they're alluding to wanting another quality second rower to replace Bateman if he goes. I don't think they were referring to anybody in particular just yet.Article mentions there’s a backrower they want to sign if Bateman leaves. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/th...-rebuild-of-wests-tigers-20241129-p5kukd.html
