As an employer, playing the game or not, I dont think it’s reasonable to expect an employee to fly across the world for 1 day before you break again for a few weeks for Xmas. What would the club achieve? Other team mates see how you treat other team members. You need to collaborate with your employees rather than alienate them.

It appears that Benjis way or the high way has backed tigers into a corner with this one.

Yep. The question really is what is Bateman's relationship like with his team mates. If they want him gone then I guess they'd back the club trying to make his life tough. If not, then you are risking upsetting the whole playing group If you are seen as an organisation that doesn't care about your employees.

As it stands I don't think there is actually anything much to this whole return date drama. Bateman said I plan on returning when I am due back. Club says ok see you on the 21st. He goes no I'm actually due back later due to fulfilling these off field obligations. Club accepts his evidence and says see you after in the new year then. For all the airtime we've given it thus far I don't see anything much in this from either side.
The whole strained relationship is another matter, I just think the return date was discussed and agreed upon in a fairly civil way by both parties.

It’s like 3k a year for your kid to play “reps” . I know of many friends kids who play rep football , and are in academy’s paying hundreds a week to some guys academy , who at best played off the bench for Marconi division 2 or Sydney United in the NPL.
Former Socceroos , definitely , I get that , but Johnny bloggs bench player for Leichhardt Apia . I mean seriously ? . Anyways I digress .
I think because of this , kids leave soccer in thier teens , and I’m 💯 sure the data confirms this .
And really sports like AFL and NRLZ benefit from this , as most elite studies say that the kids who diversified thier sports growing up , tend to be the far superior sports men .

Lestronge, mate you are SO right in your honest appraisal of kiddies soccer. All the "academy" scouts have to see is dad with the keys to the Cayenne in his hands, and momma that's just had the girls lifted and plumped . . . and he don't even care if their kid knows what shape a soccer ball is . . . they got money, they got ambition for lil Belvedere . . . and that's all it takes for them to real soon have a little less money.
 
The challenge with Bateman is that i beleive every senior player has returned early, except him. So we can talk about 1 day to just been per schedule, but others are weeks earlier than schedule.

Benji is trying to shift the culture. John isn't helping this, even when he's been given plenty of rope in the past.

When you earn $600k plus per year, you do what your friggin told. Couldnt give a shit if it's for 1 day.

Its because farmers are putting steroids and growth hormones into the food of cattle, sheep pigs and chickens to make them bigger. Farmers get more $$ if their product (meat from cattle, sheep pigs and chicken) is bigger .. much bigger.

All the farm animals get bigger .. kids of today eat this contaminated meat (from Macca's and KFC) and they get bigger .. say no more .. big humans .. !!

If he's gonna play the game of using the rules of his contract against the tigers, why is it so surprising that the tigers do the same in return?
