Cricket Season Thread

That’s the one Steve, Murphy.
I’m pretty sure he’s next in line, but Tas made him an offer to play in their first 11 and he took it bcoz his home pitch wasn’t conducive of spinning, so he wasn’t getting picked even at home. This is why I believe we need at least one pitch in Oz that turns. It’s good for both bats and bowlers.
I think a decade ago or ago we had a good mix of pitches around the country.
Our spinning pitch has been the SCG but in this era of drop in pitches it seems that no where is spinning a huge amount .
SCG of late is famous for draws with England 9 down and Lyon and co not able to wrap it up .Similarly Sth Africa able to play out time .
I'm positive they would not have survived Warnie on the last day

There's no doubt that Starc ,Cummins and Boland are our match winning trio
Adding a 4th bowler must include 2 essentials
He is fit enough to bowl 10 overs a day whether they are needed or not
He is a genuine batsman capable of shoring up the back end of the innings

If Marsh is truly fit ,he can do it !
I confess I've seen very little of Beau Webster- Is he good ? Feedback?
Imo -Abbott is a white ball cricketer not a test one
Jhye Richardson is a main line swing bowler whos often injured and can't bat !
By the way whatever happened to Michael Nezer ? A genuine allrounder
Nesser is injured has been for awhile not sure of the nature of the injury

Sounds like a theme developing around Lyon's inability to get out a number 11 (or a number 1 through 10 either). He took one wicket in the last Test and needed a screamer of a catch for that. Finally Head came on and got the number 11 within two overs once the match was gone. Lyon has not been Test standard since his calf injury in The Ashes. He has contributed nothing this series, and is just dialling it in for his retirement fund and so the Marshmallow gets a break from being the worst player in the team.

Josh Inglis gets release to bat for Scorchers before rejoining the test squad in Melbourne. Its his first bat in any cricket for a while as he's been doing his 12th man duties .Well he got run out on 49 with one of those yes/no calls
His innings was faultless .No plays and misses
If we were really daring he wouldn't look out of place batting at 3 or 6 on boxing day . Fingers crossed for Sam Konstas our youngest debutant since Pat Cummins and he had a great debut

Yes I'm sorry to bring it up when he was one of our guests 3rd most wickets etc etc .Such a gutsy guy with the bat but form is form and as you point out he's been lacking it for a while now .Our clear priority is first to regain the Border Gavaskar trophy and Secondly to defend our World test Championship title at lords next year . All that overrides sentiment

Moses Henrique must be one of the best cricketers to play a handful of tests. Probably should have been long term captain of the white ball team.

If he was given half the chances of Itch Marsh he would have cemented a place long term in the Aussie Team

Moises is overrated...but then again so is Marsh

Cant remember the name but heard the commentators discussing a guy who's played for 10 franchises this year and is booked here for 3 matches
Absurd !
Some of the pundits who say Konstas 3 ball chop on is meaningful but his fastest 50 a few nights ago isn't?
IMO neither means much .Davy has had 2 low scores
What's important on Boxing day is that Konstas is full of confidence
A teenager with nothing to lose !

Watching this old clip of Brett Lee targeting tailenders. And it got me thinking what if this ended in a Phil Hughes like manner. Would he have been in hot water? I think he would have been because there waa clear intent to harm. This wasn’t the only time he did this either. There was another time a batsmen pulled away, and despite that, Lee followed through, followed him and still bounced him. Real POS behaviour that

Henrique is a professional T20 player .There is a growing crop of players that can now roam the world picking up T20 franchise gigs everywhere
Its played Havoc with the Windies and some countries trying to field competitive test teams when their most talented earn a fortune playing 20 over cricket or even 10 over cricket or even 100 ball cricket .
Guys like Tim David and Nathan Ellis have no interest in redball cricket .They get big bucks playing IPL ,BBL The 100 ! UAE LEAGUE . plus a Carribean gig and throw in a South African and even a Canadian and World league in North America ..What does it all mean ? NOT a Lot .So many comps with most cricket pundits not really interested in who wins .
I wish the BBL was in a different time slot like Feb /Mar so we could enjoy a real "Summer of Cricket " full of Australia playing other countries in Test and 50 over and even a few 20 over internationals
Note The IPL doesn't interfere so much with our International cricket but the BBL sure does
