Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I hear this theory a lot, that Bula doesn't get involved enough. He was 22nd in the entire comp in runs. He aint lazy.
If anything he's been starved of good ball. In attack he is always sniffing around the ball running at speed. Too many times another player in possession failed to pass him the ball and gone to ground or to a less fleet footed player. Bula may need to work a bit more with the halves to get himself in the best position to get good ball.

Question for you again mate

One of the new recruits is telling people that the Tigers pre season is a walk in the park compared to his last club

Does the training get hard after Christmas or is the Tigers just a soft club when it comes to fitness?
So given that Romey Turuva Terrell & Skelton haven't done any real training that leaves just Hunt & Bird to perhaps have made that comment. I mean have you ever seen Hunt or Bird walk in a park before? Hunt can't run for more than 10 minutes and Bird has had every bone and cartilage known to man broken and ripped apart & I'm surprised he isn't in the OZ Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby side. Or maybe Bonje isn't pushing these 2 too soon?

Or Skelton.

Tigers pre season walk in the park bla bla bla... but yet we had madge for several years and cleary before him, yet we didn't make the 8.
In reality we could have had all the coaches in the comp. And they other teams I coached and still would not have have a chance in hell to make the top 8. Those teams would have struggled in KOE.

Agreed. That’s like Douhei saying I’m a 5/8. Yeah you think you are but you’re not going to play there champ with us.

Last time I looked there is guy called Jerome Luai we’ve signed for 5 years. Pretty sure he will be our 7 for a while - a long while.

Latu needs first grade experience. Regardless of the position. He’s not going to wait around for Luai to leave to play 7.

He’s a perfect utility and needs to get use to that. The only way he will play in the halves is if there is an injury or someone leaves.
Latu has also said in multiple interviews, he doesn't care where he plays, he just wants to do what's best for the team and will do whatever Benji asks. Perfect 14 than wasting it on a specialist hooker

I’m a massive fan of the talent Latu Fainu possesses, but playing dummy half at NRL level cannot be taken for granted, you need slick service, someone who is a running threat and a strong reliable defender.
Latu in theory has all these attributes, but based on what we saw in 2024 the quality of service from dummy half was a worry.
Surely we cannot make the same mistake of playing Api for 80 minutes, we need 50 minutes of quality and fewer missed tackles from him.

Agree
Not all players have the skill to place themselves in a hole for a good ball from a ball player.
Steve Menzies was one of the best he would be half way through the hole before Cliffy would put the ball on his chest.
Two extremely talented footballers made it look easy,
Manly had many other good players that didn’t have this skill that Menzies had and it showed on the try scoring tally.
I like Bula as he has plenty of effort in what he does on the field but I just don’t think he is a hole runner as he seems to catch the ball then looks for a gap instead of the other way around.

If he's a 9 so is Luke Brooks. Better he plays Cup in his correct position. Luai and Galvin will inevitably get injuries and suspensions, and Latu will get a chance.

Bula is a star and there's some people on this forum that think he's a dud. Wait til they see him this year in a decent backline.

Loads of talent but he was average last season at best ...wasnt in the top 12 fullbacks...needs to lift his support play and passing game in attack, and positional play in defense
Maybe bulking up just a little mite not be harmful, just like Teddy did all those years ago
We need more from him,and think he can deliver

I think that is a fairly realistic assessment.

I think he will deliver too, just needs a bit of time and a bit more development.
