Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

As small as tumeth?
I think they are very similar in size.
In saying that I would much rather have a high energy, mobile, aggressive and fearless 97-98kg forward, than someone who is 105-110kgs but plays lazy.
So I don’t think lack of size is a problem, plenty of top quality back rowers are the same size or a bit smaller.
From what I’ve seen from Hassett he ticks off the high energy and mobile boxes, a slight concern on whether he is aggressive and fearless enough, but that generally improves with age and confidence.

I’ve heard Harrison Hassett is likely to join us before the 2025 season kicks off.
To be honest I’m not convinced he’s any better than what we already have, but he did star throughout his junior rep career, so he might be ready to step up a level in 2025.
If this has legs this could be an amazing signing or a dud. Hassett runs a great line and is always around when you need him. But he doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. Very much a John Bateman build from memory

I would be happy with this if it comes off.

He would be behind quite a few players (Martin, Ice, Sorenson, Garner) over there. But he would be competing with the likes of Sukkar and Porter for next man up over here. From his perspective it is a move that should see him with a better chance of making NRL.

For us, it adds depth in a position of need and may be the best option we have available for the 2025 season to strengthen the 2nd row.

All that shows is he can be put through a gap by a decent inside pass. Did he even bump a player off? Not a bad pass to the winger.
??? That’s half the battle on this team . We’ve missed a consistent hole runner since garner left .
It creates indecision at the line . It’s not just about hitting the hole , but how to hit the hole and where the space is .eg out run , in run . As simple as that is , that’s not easily taught and really relies on the guy running the hole to change his body movement and shape at sometimes the last moment , even whilst in or through the line .

I’d like to see my srf man handle his way over someone too. That’s all.

Seyfarth looked good on a few occasions last season ... especially that ball off Latu.

Playing devil's advocate if this is true, how is Hassett an upgrade on Tumeth?

Seems similar builds, both good line runners, played U19 for NSW, wouldn't it be better to continue to develop our own ... unless it's in a lot of the unseen (i.e. efforts & training application).

Yeah I get your point, but Hassett is more proven against men in my opinion. Has held down the 2nd row spot (majority of games) for the 2024 KOE Cup team in a club who has proven to produce high calibre nrl players from their junior base. Whether he can make the leap to NRL standard is the next question.

Tumeth on the other hand, has been more in and out of Flegg and a lot of his cup games were limited minutes off the interchange. This is in a club where the KOE team finished last too.

Won't be shattered if we don't end up with him, but a player like him or Dylan Egan might be somewhere we need to look at if we want to increase our depth for the 2025 season. They would also be cheap.

Tumeth is no benchmark for any potential recruit.
We seem to have plenty of $$ left but few spots,so aim higher..a lot higher.. and target a quality second rower given we just lost 2 internationals in that position
How do you know what the roster and salary cap is like , to allow for money to be spent on an edge . Also who’s available anyway ?

Only facts I know is were significantly deficient in edge forwards, and players become available continuously regardless of contract
We just lost 2 backrowers, and neither was off contract
We need quality in what is arguably the only position we're worse off vs this year
