On IP, we got him for a song, but I think the issue with him and others is we couldn't add more like for like quality within his tenure so not only wasn’t he up for it, we just didn't have the talent to make him useful. Hard to make an impact in his position without the quality around you.

This season, I'm sure he would have gone better, but he had one foot out the door already, so what are you going to do.

Either way, we have recruited high quality players in bunches this time around, so our new signings should (hopefully) live up to their ability.
 
The other option to look at for a back rower or lock option would be the dogs. They have Kikau, Preston, Tuipanua, Salmon, Mann, Curran, Morrin, Amone, Hayward, King, Hughes... Plus others


Morrin is the type of effort player we could look at unsigned for 2026.

Salmon surely doesn't get starting time this year as a back rower.

My first preference though is push the Broncos with Hethrington.

Sign him for 2026 & keep trying for that early release.

Best option on the market & what we have coming through.

So yeah, his coach picks him behind Sorensen with a dodgy hammy.

I never said I didn’t rate him, I said he was overpaid - and he was.
3 years later (by your own admission) he’s still on less money than we paid him - and still not a starting back rower in a good side, despite you trying to convince us he is.

block of pre-season training after, hope we're finding

I’ve seen journos now say Bud is on 800k per year next year when it was widely reported the contract he signed was 4 years 2.2 mil at the time .

And literally every contract is scaled for inflation , and other performance metrics .
So if he signed for 295k 2 years ago there’s no way he’s not on 50-100k more by 25 . Or he has the worst manager in the world .
But I don’t think he’s on that contract , because that first year he signed with them would have ballooned his asking price simply by being in the best team in the comp .

I recall Garner was on $400k or $425k during his last year with us which was shocking to me given his output I.e. overpaid.

Apparently signed at Penrith for $275k per year for his first contract with them.

Garner has since signed another contract with Penrith but I’ve no idea the value, although my guess is it’s commensurate with a reserve second rower.

Pretty lame isn’t it ! Considering it started because I said the club was run by donkeys and shouldn’t have let Luke Garner go . It’s not even worth talking about at all , let alone having a battle about … Clearly the guy just wanted to have a go at me for whatever reason. Because if it’s about Luke Garner , Like I said before talk about picking your hills to die on / set your flag .
I didn’t realise Luke Garner raised soo much blood pressure ….

Well that’s the thing with a forum isn’t it anything id up for discussion. And for the record Garner isn’t a player worth getting into a bidding war for.

Lestronge is correct in stating that he was bagged here (on the forum). But realistically anyone who isn't either 'going to be a star' or 'is a star' gets bagged. No one seems to value the low cost role player (probably as that seems to be all we have/had in our side and no stars) and Garner probably was also overpriced for such a player during his time here.
Lestronge is entitled to his opinion but he appears to be alone in valuing Garner at 4-500K as neither club did, seemingly no other club has (as he hasn't signed elsewhere) and i've never seen anyone else on the forum rate him that highly.

Batboy's original retort that he was valued here (as in by the club) is however right. The mere fact that he was paid (and offered) more here than he was/is at Panthers would prove that he was valued here. And rightly so as he is a handy back up 2nd rower with good utility value. I just don't see how any club could afford to offer such a player more than at most about 300-350K unless they were to see him as more than that.

I value him that high because I put a premium on hole running . As simple as running between 2 players is as a concept , far fewer players actually can do it consistently . Some can’t at all , I think , and this is just my opinion , but because a lot of them were the massive unit coming up that just ran over people .
For reference that’s exactly what Joe Ofahengue was , and now I watch him get dominated in tackles a lot .
And Garner is really good at it . But as others have said he isn’t going to bump players off and go flying so I’m probably alone in that value , but I guess it’s why my favourite player as a kid was Steve Menzies . To me that was the prototype second rower .
One day there will be a player who can hit a hole , run over people , and take dirty hitups all day . That kid is going to be worth a lot of money .

I’d love a 2nd rower at the club that consistently run those angles like Ellis, Menzies ect could.
Angus Crichton and Liam Martin were amazing in SOO this year. That treat made the centres far more dangerous.
