Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Screams bust to me . Canberra and the dogs went hard for him after striking out on a bunch of front rowers , headlined by May , and stefano .
He was not their first option . Usually that’s when you get yourself in big trouble because you’ve set expectations in the marketplace now .
Like when we signed Reynolds and packer .
His youth should prove me wrong , I just don’t have high expectations .
If Canberra get that kid from the titans , that might be a blessing in disguise . As good as I felt Thompson was last year , at no point did I think he was even top 20 in front rowers , let alone probably second tier prop. Which is the money he’s getting .
Not even top 20? Lmao he is literally an international for the Kiwis. Maybe dogs overpaid a bit but they have got a gun player that will be up with the best front rowers in the comp in a couple years time.

Personally I think a lot of people here are either underrating him as a player or pretending he isn’t good to cope with Dogs signing another great player lol 😂
I think we should be looking at Pahulu now that dogs have spent so much.

So we are being told Thompson has accepted $825,000 a season for 4 yrs
Almost a quarter million less than Canberra offered, Amazes me how NRL players only have a playing use by of 10 to 14 years dependant on certain things, but are willing to go to clubs that are going to pay them less than others, personally I find it impossible to believe.
Canberra winters aren't much fun, and money isn't primary for many people.... 800 odd whatever dogs offered is still good coin

He’s a gun Dogs made an astute signing. They are now very selective. Reminds me of when Roosters signed JWH from Manly.

Does anyone have faith in T'oa or Feledy stepping up in 2025 now we have a decent side. Naden has talent but nothing upstairs so I don't have faith in him.
I've more faith in Toa performing adequately (not great but well enough to deservedly hold his spot) then I do the rest of the side proving to be decent.

We don't know that Thompson would not have been their preferred option if the 3 were all available at the same time. Dogs need a front rower now hence their interest is Utoikamanu and May. Thompson isn't available now and wasn't even permitted to negotiate back when Utoikamanu signed with Storm. I think he is 3rd choice chronologically more so than preference.

As for his ability, I'd have him comfortably in the top 20 but well off the top 10. I think he is the type of player who will be labelled over rated his whole career because he will never have an elite stats sheet but fans will overlook his physical presence in the middle. Probably a little overpaid for what he has produced to date but likely to perform to that pay level in the future.

The dogs never made Stefano a formal offer...
And never went hard for May as Leo was always the target.

Anyone who thinks they didn't get the one they wanted is just trying to make themselves feel better.
He's a quality player, And will only get better in a quality system.

Said that to a mate the other Day, Dogs are taking the high road....
They know what they have there and prepared to wait it out for the right people.

Hearing Gus speak on their last couple of potential targets, It's seems to me they're very much running with - If Player 'A' is only half thinking of coming here, We don't want you.
Commit to the club, but into what we're about and we'll make the rest of it work.

With the Dogs money, Backers, Coach, Pathways and Locality
- they have all the makings to be a very potent force for a very long time...

I t
Possible.....
Stefano also immediately available - Thompson still under contract.
Stefano having more upside is (very) Arguable....

Both the same age,
Stefano has 2 more seasons in the Top Grade
Leo played union growing up and made the Kiwis in his second year in top grade?

If I'm buying one for 4 years with the same money, As much as I rate Stefano - I'm buying Leo...
Don't think I'd be alone
He showed more in spurts over the years, remember stefano was put up early in a bottom team! He still showed good attitude and will pick a guy out to bulldoze. He played poorly last season, cause he wanted out and his mind was not in the game. In regards to Thompson getting picked for kiwis, really who doesn’t get picked fir them?? Not that hard to get a call up.
Anyway we will see.

Still don’t have a decent half back, so won’t go to far into finals without one.

No. Toa has had one decent game. Feledy doesn't have the size and is Naden gives away two penalties a game and can't tackle.

No idea what to do on that edge this year.

They’d be closer to having one than anyone here would know…

Most good judges have one of the best halves coming through at the Dogs…
He might not get a run this season, but he wouldn’t be far off.
With a super strong team around him would be the perfect spot to bring him through…
Also won the 20’s without Woods.

Dogs your second team mate.

While I agree with you on his ability, he may be on his own at the dogs which makes it hard for any front rower. If they have another big bopper hidden somewhere ready to step up, he'll kill it and the dogs will go alright. If not, he'll be well marked and do it tough.
