Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Didn’t Mam get 9 weeks out and a $90,000 fine? The media have well and truly inflated the issue. That is a significant penalty and is more than what he should have got.

It was offences of driving with drugs in his system and negligent drive as I understand it? Possibly a driving unlicensed?

There is a distinction between driving under the influence of a drug and driving with drugs in your system.

Driving with drugs in your system means you could have consumed it a number of days prior (up to 10 days cannabis, 3-5 days cocaine) meaning you are not impaired by the drug and it has simply remained in your system.

Whereas, driving under the influence of a drug has far more significant consequences because you would have consumed the drug at a time proximate to the driving and would be impaired by it. This is far more serious and carries a potential gaol term compared to the other offence which carries a maximum legislative penalty of a fine and disqualification period.

There would have been no correlation between the drug offence and the negligent driving in Ezra’s case which is why he only received a fine from the Court.
He's been done driving without a licence before among other run ins with the cops. He's brought the game into disrepute. Mitchell Pearce got a lot longer for simulating a sex act with a dog, Todd Carney likewise for performing "the bubbler".

The judge must have been a Broncos fan, he didn't even record a conviction.

If it were me or you the book would have been thrown at us and we'd be wearing green for a while.

Not sure if u are happy with his 9 weeks or not .
The grub should have got 12 months , how he escaped a jail term with his priors and no license and drugs . He could have killed that young girl

We don't know that Thompson would not have been their preferred option if the 3 were all available at the same time. Dogs need a front rower now hence their interest is Utoikamanu and May. Thompson isn't available now and wasn't even permitted to negotiate back when Utoikamanu signed with Storm. I think he is 3rd choice chronologically more so than preference.

As for his ability, I'd have him comfortably in the top 20 but well off the top 10. I think he is the type of player who will be labelled over rated his whole career because he will never have an elite stats sheet but fans will overlook his physical presence in the middle. Probably a little overpaid for what he has produced to date but likely to perform to that pay level in the future.
Exactly my point . He will be paid like a top 10 front rower but give top 20-30 output . Thats not to say he is crap , in fact I wish him all the best I hope im proven wrong (I hate death riding people who have done nothing to me ) . But yea it’s screams bust to me .
When you desperately need to fill a position and your only option is the marketplace ,combined with missing the top 2 or 3 options on the market , it spells trouble . Because now you’re paying elite money for the next tier down , maybe even the next tier down off that . So 2 tiers down .
I’m not saying Thompson can’t move up to the top 2 tiers , but yea it’s a huge risk .
Like when we paid 2 kiwi front rowers and over paid Reynolds . The dogs arnt that desperate , but yea .
I actually think Stefano won’t go well at the storm . Which is contrary to most people’s opinion I know and massively burning hot take .
I don’t think he’s mentally strong enough for that storm system . But once again , I’m not death riding him . I wish him well . I just think he will be on the bench by mid season , but it won’t be talked about because the storm will be rolling on with wins as usual .

But he isn't being paid as an elite front rower. There's been half a dozen front rowers mentioned here who are reportedly at or above $1M. He is being paid a salary that would be consistent with a player a tier below that. If he is/isn't or will/won't reach that level can be debated but I don't think it is a ridiculous salary by any means.

Fainu has all the makings to be a clone of Olakau’atu or Elise Katoa, but it’s too early for him to be our senior edge player. I’d still put Bird on the other edge with Pole at lock. Easier on Bird’s body, and it plugs a hole where we need one plugged.
Bird looks the most likely just wish he was bigger sam clone in a perfect world.

He wasn’t charged with the very serious charge of Neg driving occasioning injury. Or Neg driving occasioning GBH”. His lawyer did a great job dealing with police. Had either of these charges been applied he would be looking at a small jail sentence. I believe it was also his third charge of unlicensed driving. His 9 weeks suspension wreaks of Broncos heavyweight owners dictating to the Nrl. Disgraceful decision.

850k is elite front rower money . Theres only 2 maybe 3 with backloading , who would be on 1 mil . Thats Hass ,AFB and Tapine . If you consider Tino a front rower than him as well .
JFH is not on a mil at the warriors .
If im missing someone I can’t think of any . Hass is a generational player , a tier on his own . I’d put AFB on his lonesome beneath Hass . Then there’s like 4 maybe 5 guys . Your Mitch Barnetts, Joseph Tapine , Tino , Flagler , JFH when he’s not injured , maybe a Spencer Leniu. Then there’s a tier below that which is Terrell May , Asofa Solomona , Safiti ,Cotter , these types, then another tier below that which would include Thompson there . I’d put stefano another tier below that maybe on the same tier .
So what’s that put Thompson ? Maybe 20th best front rower ? When you’re down around that mark you’re probably paying guys 600-700k . Not 850-900k .
That’s all I’m saying . Just my opinion .

TIGERS BACKFLIP ON UNWANTED FLYER

Brent Naden has gone from the chopping block at the Wests Tigers to transforming himself to becoming one of the most impressive players before the Christmas break.

Naden was given the opportunity to join the likes of Jayden Sullivan and John Bateman to exit the Tigers however the outside back indicated he wanted to fight for his spot.

Despite the speculation, Naden has responded in a way which has left the Tigers impressed with the way he has handled himself since returning to pre-season training.

“He has come back with a great attitude,” Tigers boss Shane Richardson said. “He is a completely different player.”

He is now pushing for a starting wing spot. Naden is off-contract at the end of this year. He played just 17 games for the Tigers in the past two years.

RABS JUNIOR FLEES TIGERS

Chris Warren has joined the Sea Eagles to head up its new-look communications team.

Warren, the son of legendary rugby league commentator Ray, left his job at the Tigers before Christmas to take up a similar position with Manly.

Warren, who played five games for the Magpies, replaces Manly’s popular long-term media manager Wayne Cousins.
