I have been really busy and have missed a fair few pages of the discussion..
Having said that,I note that this crapfest has its roots from G.Leo {Balmain} and Dopey Dennis {Magpies} suggesting that either club will be back in the NRL ...thats just my summary of the situation, having said that I just wished all the Magpie and Balmain diehards leave both the foundation clubs in the past..done,dusted finnito...
I like so many of you support the Wests Tigers...the best part of all that is when I go to games, mainly at Campo,I love having a beer and yarn to my Magpie friends who don the black and white jumper, beat their drums and enjoy supporting the WTs..after the game we go back to the club and have dinner and more drinks AND the best part of that is NO ARGUEMENTS about either foundation club, its a happy space that many should strive to get to...
We are lucky to have a great culture among many of us fans who have very much moved on from the past.there seems to be a very small minority who cant let go,I hope they eventually do,we have the makings of a fantastic club with great supporters and members...I would really hate to see that diminish...

OPINION
It’s time for real change at Wests Tigers. The fans deserve nothing less

Jack Gibson, perhaps the greatest coach in the history of rugby league, famously proclaimed that “winning starts in the front office”. The last three dismal years at Wests Tigers, including a trifecta of wooden spoons, are the ultimate proof of Gibson’s point.

As has been on public display once again this past week, the central impediment to the Wests Tigers NRL team’s recovery on the football field is poor governance in the boardroom.A New Year’s Eve coup against the board of the Wests Ashfield Leagues Club (the majority owner of Wests Tigers) has once again thrown the club into administrative chaos. While the rest of Sydney was getting ready to watch the fireworks, a majority of the club’s board members launched an internal missile instead. Four of the seven directors issued suspensions to the other three for periods of up to eight years.

The 2025 season marks 20 years since the Tigers’ magical run to capture the NRL premiership. It is 14 years since we last played finals football. Last year our club finished last in five separate competitions across juniors, women’s and men’s. Quite a feat, but not the sort of record you want to be breaking.
The incredible thing is that Wests Tigers fans have remained so devoted. Against our better judgment, we remain among the most passionate and loyal fans in all of rugby league. Television ratings for the team are still strong and the slightest sign of a winning run brings fans out in their orange, white and black colours all over Sydney.

But after so many years on the losing side of the ledger, members and supporters have simply had enough of the backroom brawling that keeps bringing our club into disrepute.

So, at a time when Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson’s leadership, the arrival of star player Jarome Luai and a much-improved playing roster had generated hope of a revival, yet another round of petty disputes and negative headlines still holds back our club.

How and why does this keep happening? The short answer is that the Wests Ashfield Leagues Club is governed by an antiquated and anti-democratic system that puts power over the organisation’s affairs in the hands of a tiny number of unelected “debenture” holders. These 18 people, who are appointed for lifetime terms, then select five of the seven board members from among themselves.
The leagues club’s 27,000 members are able to elect only two board members, locking them out of any real say. Tellingly, these two directly elected board members – Rick Wayde and Tony Andreacchio – have now been expelled from the board and the club. It’s bizarre that in 2025 any registered club has such a closed-shop system of governance. Little wonder that the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority has launched an investigation into this dysfunction. Loyal and long-suffering Wests Tigers fans deserve better than this mess.

Our team is competing in the most professional rugby league competition on earth, but our club’s governance looks like the amateur committee for a second-rate park footy team.

Worse still, there remains a handful of dinosaurs on both sides of the joint-venture absurdly pushing for Wests Tigers to be disbanded and the Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers re-established. It’s one thing to be a one-eyed supporter but 25 years after the merger they are still blindly fighting the war.
The good news is that this latest round of boardroom intrigue and seemingly endless division has galvanised fans to say enough is enough. A range of Wests Tigers supporters’ groups have come together under the banner of Wests Tigers Unite to demand reform of the outdated board structure and new standards of professionalism.

An increasing number of longstanding Wests Ashfield board members are also bravely speaking out to say the system of centralised control has had its day. A new, democratic governance, in which the club’s members and Wests Tigers fans have a real say, and can make the board accountable, is desperately needed.

Our club is at a crossroads. We cannot turn back to the past, and staying on our current trajectory will mean Wests Tigers just continue to fall further behind our NRL rivals. Or, as Jack Gibson said: “In football, if you are standing still, you’re going backwards fast.”

It’s time for real change at Wests Tigers. And this time, the fans will not accept anything less.

G'day Lauren...I have tremendous Respect for Your posts.
You don't post all that often, but when you do, your posts are always polite and intelligently worded, you really have something to say, and I sit up and take note, as your words resonate with me. I hope I am not making you blush with embarrassment atm 😱😀.

But this Darcy Byrne character has been so heavily criticised on here from time to time, it now amuses me to think he may well become one of the superheroes.

I also wonder how much of what he said is just political sucking up to Wests Tigers as he is the local MP.

But aimed at me?

I've mentioned numerous times that Balmain should be off the board. Including years ago when they made dumb decisions around Rozelle and went bankrupt.

What more do you want? My butt tattooed with a HBG logo?
I'd like to see that........at 2nd thought 🤔 , I wouldn't like to see it at all 🙂.

I think it's time you took some of your own medicine ht... in not attacking the man.
Cmon BZN you claim you are SHUT DOWN because of your views and yet you continually go after people that you don't agree with. Not only that you accuse them of ulterior motives and then claim anti Magpie when they refute your accusations.
This is a pro Wests Tigers forum - so if you are pro Magpies or pro Balmain you are going to meet with some pushback - and instead of being victimized you seem to be thriving on it.

Does anyone know how the debenture system works? Are they transferable?
Would it be ok for a debenture holder to leave his debenture to a member of his/her immediate family? Or does the recipient need to be unrelated, but at the same time a Magpies fan?
When vacancies become available they ask for applications, those applications are vetted by the HBG board and they decide who is accepted as a debenture holder.

Mate, I have said many times on this forum that I support the total independence of the WT board. I can't keep saying it. It has been promised after the initial review and again by Richo earlier this week. But we still have plenty on here piling in to HBG even after what we want has been promised and I believe will be delivered. It is not an age thing. I don't expect younger WT supporters to have fond memories of Wests or Balmain but I do. Those feelings don't stop me from wanting WT to be a success and to believe that Wests Magpies should only exist in the junior clubs they currently field, Same for Balmain.
I agree with every word you said in this post coivtny 😀 👏👏👏

Yep fair enough however I’ll say that I have every right to defend myself.

And despite not having an allegiance to Balmain or Wests and openly criticising both , I still get acccused of being a Balmain apologist.

Maybe you should address the issue by calling out the people on this forum who push that braindead narrative of Wests vs Balmain.
Very well said TJ4. Now you know what it's like to be told "you just want the MAGPIES back" as I refuse to take a knee to the Balmain people on here.

@BZN I want this to end, your obvious dislike for me cannot be good for you and I am sick of it being constantly thrown around and derailing discussion.

You got very offended years ago when I stated your preference was for the Magpies to return to the NRL and I told you i didn't like you pushing that agenda and I thought that was disgusting.

In the mood of reconciliation I will apologise as my wording was probably too harsh but I will fight for my club the Wests Tigers.

Now I know you will counter this by saying that you never said that your preference is for the Wests Magpies to return, so I will ask you the following question.

Have you ever said that you would love for the Magpies to return to the NRL? I will also state in fairness to you that you followed it up with that you don't think it will ever happen.

If we clear this up I am willing to let it go and not raise it again but you also have to stop calling me liar and mentioning me on every second post.

I think that is fair to both of us and more importantly fair to spare everyone else from this dislike you have of me.

Looking forward to your reply and again I apologise for my harsh wording.

This thread has really brought the dinosaurs out and exactly what is hurting the club.

All the people who are:
- triggered when someone calls the club "wests" or "tigers"
- measuring how much orange or white is on the jersey
- whether or not there is a magpie on the sleeve
are a big part of the problem.

All of that crap is irrelevant to Wests Tigers.

@BZN I want this to end, your obvious dislike for me cannot be good for you and I am sick of it being constantly thrown around and derailing discussion.
Just ignore him dude. I’ve been targeted before and I just laugh it off or I just ignore them. It’s not hard. Constantly engaging does two things. It’s only feeding it, and it’s telling him that it triggers you. If someone flames you, you obviously live in their head. Wear that as a badge of honour and move on with you day

Cochise you and I have met and conversed at times on this forum, from my point of view I would like to thank you for your efforts in trying to make the WESTS TIGERS a great club..as in life what we do doesnt always please everyone, however we should always be respectful in others opinions and thoughts as I have found you to be..
Im looking forward to catching up with you and many of my friends on this forum in 2025..

I'm glad you had the guts to say this, because you have given me a segway to say You now know how it feels to be on the receiving end of unwarranted rhetoric, but not just from one person, but from many in my own case along with the pile on's. Thank goodness @Spartan117 stepped in and stopped one pile on, but that was after he had deleted a couple of my posts and given 'me' an official warning, and I gotta say you blamed me wrongly for a complaint against you, when it could have been any of 1,000 posters.

And I've explained myself 200 times about Wests Tigers being My team and I'm sure M_M would have as well, maybe even 300 times as he has been on here longer than I have.

Lestronge, I reckon it's pent-up frustration that's coming out in @Magpie_Magic, @Ron Brodrick's Spirit and myself atm for not being believed and NOT BEING ACCEPTED ON HERE AS EQUAL TO THE BALMAIN SIDE OF OUR JV.

IN FACT, I SHOULD REALLY SAY WE HAVE BEEN LOOKED UPON AS BEING 'INFERIOR'.

I just hope to goodness all this rubbish can now stop so we can get on and enjoy a big improvement in our team this year, and the sniping at each other stops once we have ALL had
our say.
BZN.Im from the Balmain side of the JV and have from day one accepted my brothers and sisters of the Magpies side of the jv...
Because most of us knew we at least had a club at NRL level to support and love.. AND WE MOVED ON ...let the past be the past and now look to a bright future as one ....
