Agreed, from a macro perspective though, if the debenture system doesn’t change, Weststigers will always remain beholden to a very insular and unaccountable cabal.
Exactly Jux. The debenture system as it stands is a super freeway to mediocrity. It allows otherwise good people to deviate from the rai-son d'etre of Wests Tigers. The question is though, is it possible to separate the goals and 70 year old culture of HBG with that of a competitive footy team, in a sustainable way? Personally, I can't see the two cultures coexisting without closing down the debenture system and opening up opportunity for board seats on merit to a much larger number of applicants, who are not beholding to those who gave them the seat.

The debenture must be debunked and eradicated. A cancer which is dormant. We are at their mercy. At least it is in the open now. The majority of fans unfortunately are oblivious to this. They just need a religion. A god that can make the 8. An entity that they can believe in order to have a life which takes the focus of their own every day miserable and empty lives. Where existence can be justified. Maybe one day - we all will be believers.

I actually think that helped Sheens a lot in his first coaching run.

It was Balmain vs Wests. No one on the board cared about football.

You could tell there was a lot of fighting. It was all "hey why does the Balmain directors get 5 cookies and we only get 4 on our plates at board meetings". The infighting was all at Board level and Sheens was able to keep the players away from it, which is what you want.

Hearing Woodsey, he expressed that as club Captain he was getting dragged into the Taylor vs Everyone wars and being Woodsey, he was WAY out of his league.

TLDR all I hope is that there is a massive board war and they argue on the shade of Orange used by the club, who sits in the corporate Boxes and the usual nonsense a board talks about. Leave Richo and Benji alone! *

*Till we have to fire Benji. This is a crunch season for us and if Benji doesn't perform or gets into arguments with Luai, we have to get rid of him asap. It's harsh, but I expect us to be close to middle comp, nearing the top 8 this season.
True, it will be interesting if Benji can't get the guys to fire, which imo I think this year we will be like 11th to 14th, but if I'm wrong and there isn't massive improvement, Richo would have a few good experienced guys willing to come, with all the signings and its pretty obvious we are on the up finally. Only question left is hanging over Benji, I hope he can get it done for us, it would make an awesome story.

The key to this whole battle is that the WTs have an independent board....
As long as HBG keep injecting funds as owners are obliged to,then the debenture holders can piss in each others pockets all they like..
WTs need to stand alone as a NRL football club with no outside interference from HBG directors..
This is the path to better years ahead on and off the field...

If richo can get us fo breakeven, then the only interaction might be limited to the 2 board seats and the rehiring of the independant directors.

Are you suggesting a policy of ‘leave the door open’ just in case we want more spoons? 😂

It is the definition of a boys club, mates who are just looking after mates. Closest thing you could get to nepotism without people being related. Just a privileged club.

I cannot believe that people on this forum just seem to ignore the fact that members of West Tigers like me (member 2917036) have absolutely no say in the management of Wests Tigers. i do understand that HBG holds the licence and Wests Ashfield supplies some of the funds albeit not as much as NRL. However, members like me pay a membership fee to Wests Tigers each year, year after year but have no voting rights whatsoever. The whole structure, including the constitution, needs to be updated to include the actual Wests Tigers members voting for Board members.

Glad you mentioned that. Membership to Wests Tigers comes with no rights in regard to having a voice.

To be honest I'm not interested in voting rights, I want board members appointed by an external recruitment agency to ensure high quality directors to set our club up for the future.

If you want voting rights, just need to sign up to HBG through one of the clubs. It's not just wests ashfield, there are 3 in the group with Croydon and the markets.

My only concern, like others, is making that structure democratic. If they seperate wests tigers with independance, that's less of a concern.

I just watched the ABC doco "Blood and Thunder" the story about Albert Productions and their stable of Aussie Rock & Pop bands.

In part 2, "Thunder" whilst talking about the hard rocking "bogans" at "grimey pubs" in the mid 70s they pan to what looks like an outdoor crowd and low and behold two blokes, beer in hand, headbanging to AC/DC......one in a Western Suburbs jersey, the other in a Balmain jersey!!

Don't believe me? You can watch it on YouTube.Great doco by the way!!

It hasnt been ignored.
Its been discussed numerous times over 25 years.
Youre a season ticket holder, not a member

Bit quiet in here last few days ☮️

Once we get our independant board members it will add extra voices and votes in the boardroom massively diluting HBG influence, their job will just to report back to HBG what the Tigers are up to and where the board want the club headed without having any boardroom power. Provided the new independant directors are totally independant and not HBG stooges in disguise.
the independents ,in essence really don't need to contribute in any way from the status quo to enjoy a fancy title n a free meal.

Have you read the membership page on Wests Tigers site? It states that I am more than a ticket holder. “Every membership not only supports our team on the field but also fuels community initiatives and development programs that make a difference both on and off the field.”

Doesn't say you get anymore than a seat, trinkets and events though.
