Have you read the membership page on Wests Tigers site? It states that I am more than a ticket holder. “Every membership not only supports our team on the field but also fuels community initiatives and development programs that make a difference both on and off the field.”

but your defending yourself, any one worth their salt doesn't say their a decent human for volunteering donating time ,what ever ,even if the what evers are passed down from behind a desk.Jazz hands it baby,or shoosh up.

the independents ,in essence really don't need to contribute in any way from the status quo to enjoy a fancy title n a free meal.
Yeah, the only reason we really need them is to dilute HBG power in the boardroom, would be good if they had business contacts or ability to help provide 3rd party deals for potential players, like the big wigs on the Roosters board.

With cost of living pressures biting into the family budget a $30 membership fee which includes a cap and bumper sticker could mean the difference of food on the table or medications.
All we ask is for HBG to treat this donation with a little more respect and a level of altruism as indicated in the constitution.

There's some weight in your argument. Its why people power got the first review. Member may not always be owners, but they are definitely customers.

But I'd also say if budgets are tight and people are forgoing medication, membership probably should be skipped for a year.

It can’t be that easy for people, who are part of the 30% on struggle street, most of whom are physically and emotionally affected by the increasing cost of living. In some cases it would make the WT membership even more essential, given that it provides a belonging to something bigger than the sum of its parts. It can mean more than Phar Lap meant during the depression, more than the great Don Bradman, because unlike those heroes, as a member you become part of a select group. You’re not alone in your struggles.
I can understand your pragmatic view, I really can, but not all of those people would be in a position to just cancel their memberships, preferring to just skip a meal or a couple of months supply of statin.

Great post. Mortgage stress and cost of living increases are a concern for many families. This is especially the case in the South West where postcode 2170 is identified as having the most households under mortgage stress. This includes -

The postcode with the most households under mortgage stress was 2170 in Sydney, taking in the suburbs of Casula, Chipping North, Moorebank, Liverpool, Prestons and Mount Pritchard. More than 10,000 borrowing households are considered under mortgage stress in that area.

I hear ya @twentyforty. I'm not in that position, so not fair for me to comment anyway. A small amount for membership may be worth a large amount in value if its your one outlet.

Unfortunately the last decade with the tigers just meant stacking on levels of depression!

One day hopefully we get to WT membership voting. But hey, it seems you can completely control the club with just $100!

Are you kidding me? All I want is for members of Wests Tigers Rugby League Club to have representation on the Board of the club. Not a difficult concept I would have thought.
As I have already said, I have no interest in Wests Tigers members voting for the board.
I want a professional recruitment process for directors, that is how we end up with a highly functioning board with directors that meet the needs and skills required to advance the club.

Fair enough. Surely there are people at the club whose job it is to understand the fan base and various socioeconomic groups they sell memberships to?

Wests Tigers is proud to announce the successful recruitment of four Independent Directors to the Club’s Board. This milestone marks the completion of an extensive governance and cultural review, reinforcing the Club's commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Elevate Talent undertook an Independent Search as set-down by the Holman Barnes Review, with the guidance of Managing Partner Jonathan Harris and invaluable support of Jill Davies, a distinguished Sport Business & Governance expert serving as an Independent Advisor. The selection process adhered strictly to the review's criteria, that were endorsed by all stakeholders.

Wests Tigers are delighted to announce that Barry O’Farrell has been officially appointed as one of the four Independent Directors following a successful 12-month period as Interim Chair. Barry’s leadership and dedication during this time have been instrumental in guiding the Club forward to this stage. Barry has already demonstrated exceptional governance skills, in a complex stakeholder environment.

Additionally, we are excited to welcome three new Independent Directors to the Board:
  • Charlie Viola, Executive Chair of Viola Private Wealth, and former Partner at Pitcher Partners. Charlie is a prominent Financial Advisor and Industry leader, with exceptional financial management, commercial and strategy skills. Charlie grew up in Campbelltown and now lives in the Inner West;
  • Michelle McDowell, former Managing Director of Allied Express, bringing a wealth of experience in commercial, operations and logistics. Michelle has significant business acumen and is passionate about community. Michelle has deep commercial insights into the Western suburbs of Sydney;
  • Annabelle Williams OAM PLY, Former Chair of the Athlete’s Commission for Paralympics Australia, and former Board member of the Paralympics Australia and Swimming Australia. Annabelle is a Lawyer and a decorated athlete, with deep insights in High-Performance, and is an advocate for inclusion and excellence in sport. Annabelle grew up in Balmain.
These appointments mark an exciting new chapter for the Wests Tigers as we continue to strengthen our leadership and vision for the future. The Chair will be elected by the Board at their first meeting on Tuesday 28th January 2025.

This successful recruitment is the culmination of the dedicated efforts by the Club and Holman Barnes Group over the past 12 months to implement the recommendations from the independent review into Wests Tigers Governance and Culture. The review was led and supported by Holman Barnes Group and conducted independently by Tony Crawford and Gary Barnier.

Chair of the Holman Barnes Group, Julie Romero, reaffirmed the support of the Holman Barnes Group in the appointment of the new Directors:

“Holman Barnes Group is extremely pleased with the appointment of the four accomplished Independent Directors. Each person brings a strong and diverse skill set, valuable experience, energy and independent thought. All essential to create a thriving Boardroom dynamic. This is an exciting opportunity to ensure Wests Tigers can operate with true corporate governance.”

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson said the appointment of the new Independent Directors signals a significant step forward in the Club's development:

"The addition of these Independent Directors is a pivotal moment for Wests Tigers. Their expertise and fresh perspectives will play a crucial role in guiding the Club as we embark on the next phase of our journey to success."

The appointments represent the final piece of this transformation, which has also included:
  • Football Operations: A complete revamp of operations.
  • True Governance: Establishing effective operational structures for staff management.
  • Strategic Vision: Launching the strategic plan ‘Roaring Ahead’ to shape our direction for 2025 and 2026.
  • Community Presence: Opening the first office in Campbelltown, strengthening ties with local government, sponsors, and members.
  • Stadium Development: Conducting a full stadium review and unveiling a stadia plan for 2025, 2026, and 2027.
  • South-West Expansion: Expanding the Club’s presence in the South-West catchment to support our push towards achieving 10,000 local juniors, making Wests Tigers the #1 Club in the NRL.
  • Community Impact: Launching ‘Wests Tigers Empower’, a program addressing critical issues such as the transition from school to work and the domestic violence education.
  • Fan Engagement: Establishing and facilitating the Fans Representative Group (FRG) to foster closer connections with our supporters.
The new Independent Directors coupled with Interim Representatives from Balmain Tigers (Danny Stapleton), Western Suburbs Magpies (Stephen Montgomery) and Holman Barnes Group (Dennis Burgess), will play a key role in shaping the Club’s governance, strategy, and engagement with stakeholders as Wests Tigers look toward a bright future.

For more information, please refer to the selection criteria and behavioural requirements that guided the appointment for these roles.

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago a suggestion of doing something similar - and was routinely ridiculed by the vocal minority. Its a very popular scenario across europe and never been done here.

In the UK they are generally an independant body, not run by the club but have access to the board some some board events and meetings (usually referred to as Sporting Trusts). In Germany, several sporting organisations do something similar.

If this can be achieved, and done well, then it would be a good thing for the fans

(Wolverhamton Wanderers as an example: https://www.wolves1877trust.co.uk/)
