Heath Mason #288

Hooker?

The position that is regarded as the busiest in the NRL? The Blender spot.

We tried to push Josh Reynolds there, who was an 80 minute 5/8, he couldn't stand it.

Heath Mason has "covered" fullback. He hasn't excelled there by any means. Hasn't mucked up, but hasn't scored anywhere near enough to keep that position. Putting him at hooker will just burn him out.

Sure if Api and TDS get injured, we will move Jack Bird to hooker.
Well Mason is known for his energy and endurance and acceleration. That's about it. His defence and kick defusal is a looooong way off nsw cup level, and a mile away from first grade calibre. If he practices a lot maybe he'll become a sufficient backup. But basically he's a ball runner. No playmaking or kicking game, not much defence. Just accleration and energy.
A Connor Watson type, so he's likely to be a 14 for much of his career

You 'Think he was starting to show something'?
He's been playing NRL for 5 years into his 6th.

How much longer do we need to wait for him to really come on you think?
I think that hole he hit off Latu has given a false sense of him being better than he really is.

Great, natural backrowers are the studs of any team. The backbone and the heart.
They aren’t created, they are born. Born to be the hardest working and all round best players in any lineup.
We have to stop manufacturing them. Find real ones and nurture their growth. The dividends will be worth the effort.
Let me correct that for you Tucker....

Behind the Hooker natural backrowers are the studs of any team.

Reads much better now!

Pretty close, but only after they have commited the A and B defender, and created space for them. Once that bit has been done the rest is just a bit of bash and barge isnt it?
For some yes, not the backrowers though…they keep alive in support and then protect other players in defence whilst also covering their own lanes

You have won me over Tucker! So now it is only the lock and the backs that aren't worthy!

Love having the kid about the place.
But if he's the Starting Back Rower, We're in trouble.

Some genius reminded me earlier that the Warriors wanted to buy him,
Probably because he's a good squad member, And his previous relationship with their coach
would be my guess.
Pretty sure they weren't buying him to replace their rep players in the likes of
Capewell, Barnett and Nuikore?

What would I know, Maybe year 6 in the NRL we finally get to see him in Full Bloom?
I certainly hope so.

What's your point? He has been improving every year, not every NRL player was a gun on debut.

You replied to me - And my point
(You didn't read it?)

It actually said, He's not a starting Second Rower....
And he isn't (At anywhere but the 3 x Wooden Spooners)
He may well be improving - but he's got a long way to go.

@batboy wanker
I think that hole he hit off Latu has given a false sense of him being better than he really is.
thats not true . He was doing a good job defensively , was providing width and running his shape , fighting through contact , and taking dirty hitups out of our own end .
That all combined with his knack for being in the contest , (you know he’s on the field for good and bad ) , has helped form my opinion . It had nothing to do with his line running , other than prove that he’s capable of it , so it’s a potential weapon moving forward .
His lack of discipline , and the fact the jury is still a little out on his lateral defence are causes for concern .
But I really , really like how he stays in the contest . Contesting kicks , chasing down kicks , cover tackles , niggle around the ruck . Especially on the edge it’s easy to fade in and out of games .
If he can control that , and improve his leg drive through contact , I don’t see any issues .

Just gonna leave this right here . Career reserve grader apparently with 70 games at 25 years old , and 5 seasons in first grade , where we haven’t played finals football . Not sure about the Maths on that .
The guy has holes in his game , no doubt , but some sensationalist shit being said right here …

What about 5 or 6 years into their career? He’s 26 next week. If he’s gonna be a gun, it’s gonna have to be soon.

Na, Na -
He hit that one hole that one time (In 5 years) now he's a weapon!!

Next up here, we'll have Twal the Try Scoring Machine.
