Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Much more than just the result

Itll be the all round onfield attitude, the defense mindset, tuning up every single week at kick off and after half time, body language, no blow outs......my god I hope Luai dont get injured hes so important to us this year
We need 20 plus games out of him. That goes for the whole spine. The signings have been great, but it’s only half the job.

Besides Api and AD who can goal kick at WT and be considered a NRL player.
High praise to consider AD a NRL player! 🤪
I'm not entirely sure he's that good a goal kicker is he?

Quick search and he has a career conversion rate of 74%. I think the best are 80% and above, but I only checked Cleary (84%) and Reynolds (83%) and I'd put them at the very top.

So 3 out of 4 for Adam. But in fairness, he hasn't had the benefit of long stretches of games, has had to come back from (2?) acls, less attempts playing for wt in those he did play (😦) and may very well have had to take more shots from the sideline....

Don't remember him being a good kicker, but at the same time I often think stats don't tell the whole story.

In any case - Reuben Garrick. Said many times the last few years he'd be perfect.

If not him, maybe they could poach Meaney, as Paps is a great kicker too.

Goal kicking is important in winning close games. However, what were the close games early last year we lost due to goal kicking?
Those close games that we lost due to goal kicking don't exist.

The smallest margin we lost by were a few games we lost by around 6 or 8 points, unfortunately there were many we lost by a more than that and they were mainly through poor defense and ill discipline.

It can be argued that 2 of the wins we had, you could consider goal kicking to have been a factor in that win.

Not discounting the fact that we need a good consistent goal kicker because this season I expect us to be very competitive and goal kicking could quite easily become an important factor in our final results.

I’m not sure if it has been mentioned before but I’ve heard today to keep an eye on Harrison Hassett from Penrith.

Could be a good chance at ending up a 🐯
Was rumoured about 3-4 months ago but never ended up happening. Both players still at their clubs for preseason

Thanks for the heads up. Mav Geyer was my emerging pick out of that system for 2026. If I recall correctly Hassett is also still contracted to them for 2025 so if we can prize him out early that could be a good thing.

He has a bit of Liam Martin about him, running good lines and gritty in defence (although defence is an area he needs to improve). I think him and Mav Geyer are potential NRL quality. Hope we land him for 2025.
about a 0.00000001% chance of removing a Geyer from the Panthers

Yep the goalkicking thing is a furphy. Api's kicking was passable around 80%. If he kicked another 10% it is 16 or so points over the whole season, a minority of those would of had any bearing on the result. In saying that I remember being frustrated at some misses throughout the year, but thats just part of being a fed-up Tigers fan.

Players should not be in the team based on goal-kicking. For example Doueihi easily leaked more that 16 points in his couple of games at centre.

Probably, the original post was in answer to a question of who should be on our shopping list for 2026. If you don't ask you will never get. Geyer has yet to be picked up by the Panthers so we can certainly have a conversation.

Many thought that we were at the same off to sign Luai!

For the most part, Api's goal kicking has been excellent.

He has kicked some absolute pearlers at some critical times, who would have thought that possible after his first attempt at goal for us which was a bit of an embarrassment from memory.
