Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sometimes I wonder if some of these players such as Dylan Brown are really playing to win premierships or just for the money as common sense should tell them if they are being overpaid it means their club will struggle to build a decent team around them.
Similar theory with Galvin, yes we want to keep him and pay him well to stay, but if he seriously expects to be paid close to a million dollars per season too soon, it will mean we do not have the available cap space to build a strong team around him.
This is exactly what Tedesco, Moses and Woods failed to understand when they all departed.
Hopefully Galvin is loyal enough and smart enough to accept a little bit less over the next few seasons while we have Luai on our books with an escalating long term contract to ensure he is getting the marquee money once Luai’s contract expires.
When I say accepting less, it would still likely be up around 800k per season for the next 3-4 seasons.
mate sounds like the right thing to do as Wests tigers fans but what would you do if you were offered a couple of extra thousand a year and quite possibly a chance of winning a grand final. Fingers crossed here too, but if he was my young bloke my priorty would be to earn as much money as you can while you can. Hes only an serious injury away from earning nothing. I think we will do what we have to to keep him. Imagine the headlines if we lose Galvin after we lost our other top juniors like teddy and moses

Benji was a key figure in recruitment for Jerome, May , Tito etc.

He deserves the 3rd year with the right staff around him.

I'm in for the medium to long term with Coach Benji
100%. Our best team in over a decade is largely due to his ability to sell the club when we've been declining.

That in itself is an achievement that warrants some accolades.

Not sure where we would be right now if we didn't have that.

Yep , I feel with the players who have joined us Benji may feel , centre and right back row will sort it self , meaning players like Seyfarth and Sukkura may have enough support now with a stronger pack to be able to play at the level required , Luai driving , Appi Skemming , Galvin skemming , Big Sam on the left with Luai and front row power we haven’t had for years may be enough , Seyfarth was improving every game last season , just centre for me and With - Staines , Turuva , Skelton , Naden , AD , Toa ,Olam I think we are ok ,
And Makasini destined to lock up one spot for the next 10 years

eems like AD has been put into the side simply because he can goal kick, with Api missing round 1. Not a first grader, and a terrible centre at that. Benji stuffing up already with a good team
I’m sure Benji will be checking his performance out during the trials.

I don’t think any rival club is paying him 1 million per season unless he goes to another level in 2025.
I would offer him a massive upgraded offer for the next 5 years, 600k for 2025, 700k for 2026, 800k for 2027, 900k for 2028 and 1 million for 2029 and throw in bonuses if we make the top 8, top 4 or if he plays SOO.

If below 10th is a failure who gives Benji his marching orders?
If its Richo and annoints a new coach, Richo becomes the New Whipping Boy if the new coach is a failure. Disharmony. 🤪
Richo would not like that at all.
Having opened this scenario for comments to keep me entertained a bit longer before the first trial--------I think Benji will prevail. 😁
Can't see us in the Top 12 to be honest

I wouldn't say so much stuffing up as exposing a glaring hole in recruitment / playing roster- something we have said with a few people here- goal kicking is very thin on.
Think about all those close games we lost early on last year, if we had a good goal kicker it changes a lot. But then again, is AD's goalkicking worth putting him in if he lets in 2 tries a game?

FMD, the trials are weeks away and you already have the skinny on Benji's selections for round 1. This is the first hard evidence anyone has posted that shows Benji can't coach! I'm interested in who Benji will be selecting on the two wings for round 1 so I can put it in a multi!

Rommey will be first choice kicker
Don't think so. He doesn't tend to stand up and take roles off others. He's more of a player who gets players at their best around him. At penrith it's been cleary, crichton, edwards then alamoti goalkicking. I suspect he will be leaving it to api or galvin to do the big plays

Benji is a shit coach and we will not live up to the ridiculous expectations put on us in this off season. Benji has been good for two things. Blooding youngsters, and the recruitment attraction to work with him. Neither of which have anything to do with his actual coaching of the team and game plans. Everything else has show he is clueless as a first grade coach. Even with his assistant coach selections, jobs for the old boys... never ends well. The teams with culture issues and poor on field performances are the teams with old boys getting too involved with their team in the media and close to the club. Gordon Tallis at the broncos. The Dragons another team. Then there is us with Benny Elias and Blocker at a stretch

Even if he can't coach? We won't make the 8 with him. It'll take to year 4 or 5 with him and by that time galvin would have left

I'm seriously interested in your take on his coaching ability. I have asked several times for evidence that he can't and heard crickets.

I'm not won over by him but there is hard evidence to suggest that he does have a clue but had a side that was been unable to excute for 80 minutes.

The change in focus for this pre-season demonstrates learning, the recruitment demonstrates knoweldge of what is required and the one or two games where we put it all together against the sharks and raiders demonstrates that the players were able to execute what was being asked. there are plenty of other snippets that show he has a clue.

On the can't coach front 100% he stuffed up the entire lead up and approach to spoon bowl - but I expect that won't happen again. Some of his rotations were poor as well; but what examples are there that demonstrated that what he is coaching is below par?

I'm sure that Benji had a say in Hodgo as an assistant - but he isn't inexperienced and has broad exposure to some good systems. Would he have been my pick? Probably not. But how can you state that it won't end well before a ball is kicked.

So if Benji is such a shit coach - what are the hard facts that lead you to that conclusion. Not interested in opinion.
