Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agree. It’s an attitude much more so than x’s and o’s.

My thoughts have always been once we lost the likes of Galea, O'Neill etc. the attitude that's built our Culture is 'Chuck the ball to Benji and he'll work it out'
Ellis bought some of that ruthless attitude back, And was a real leader of men (which got us out of trouble for those couple years)

Problem was on the back of Benjiball, We had the best kids going around as well
- So they never had to worry about developing a defensive attitude either.

It's so deflating, The truth is - We're soft.
It's in the walls of the joint - I was hoping Madge could steel us up a bit.

Hopefully these new guys have bought it with em, because I didn't see much of it last year either.

There is no guarantee our teams defence will be any better than last season, but there’s also a chance it will be much improved.
Defence is a mindset and the resolve largely comes from a team knowing they will be rewarded with scoring points down the other end and winning games if they show enough defensive resolve.
The team leaders are the ones that drive confidence and you would like to think the overall confidence of the team will be much higher with Jerome Luai on board, along with our other well regarded recruits and our emerging young players all being a year older and wiser.
I believe if the team gels, we get a bit of luck with no long term injuries to key players we can quite easily make the top 8, but if things start to go pear shaped we could also end up with another spoon.

Small number of green shoots in attack and that's about it if the new guys don't create change get ready for another deflating season all of us praying this doesn't happen.

The drama is that the only real advantage the Tigers have in talks with Galvin is that they can increase his salary now. He'll be on peanuts for 2025 and 2026 as it's the same contract he signed before he played first grade, but if the Tigers extend him they'll (presumably) tear up that contract and replace it with one where he starts making good money right away. By not taking that, Galvin is effectively saying that he's willing to sacrifice money now for the advantages waiting gives - of which by far the biggest one is seeing what other clubs have to offer. And if that's his mindset I'd say he's as good as gone.
What about he (Galvin) is actually doing what he has said and waiting to see how the Tigers are performing this year before signing any upgrade or extensions
My point is he is gambling on he gets through this year injury free and in form and the big money offers might come after November.
If he does an ACL no offers might come along.

What exactly do sides do differently? I’m interested in what you think the main different structures are.
there are different styles of defensive systems

Like up and in vs slide.

What the markers do - how they split and how the inside man covers

Listen to Willy mason talk about the ciraldo system of defense and he talks about how they do these things.

Every team has a different structure.

If they didn’t - every coach would know exactly how the other teams defends.

This isn’t mail or anything - but I find it highly highly unlikely that Galvin re-signs with us.

The way he has acted throughout the last 12 months screams someone waiting for his contract to end so he can go elsewhere.
All signs point that way

- Not taking an upgrade for this year
- Already asking for a release multiple times
- His tamper tantrum
- The old “I’m just focusing on footy” crap

There’s nothing in the pros column to indicate him staying.

I think it’s blatantly obvious that he’s wanting to be part of a successful team and if we show we are a top 8 team or on the doorstep of the top 8 and his own form continues on an upwards trajectory, he will definitely re-sign with us.
It’s just reality that nobody wants to be stuck in a team that continually finishes on or close to the bottom of the ladder, so a successful season is paramount in keeping our best players moving forward.

Mate, he’ll want to be in a PREMIERSHIP winning team, and be at a club that is in the best possible position for that. The same as Tedesco. Winning a couple games and scraping into the 8 isn’t going to cut it when actual contenders come calling and can guarantee him playing finals and having a tilt at a premiership, every single year.

Well the Roosters are not a team on the upward trajectory, so he’s barking up the wrong tree and setting himself up to be the scapegoat if he goes there.

He also said he would "probably" tear up the contract of any player referring to a member of the the public by means of a cephalopodic slur.
I still can't understand how Teddy is not the face of the McDonald's Squid Game Meal Campaign.

Lol really? You don’t think they aren’t a club who can turn their fortunes around with the click of a finger if they have a bad year? They are backed by a millionaire. They’d offer to set him up for life after footy. But hey, if can we just scrape into the 8, I’m sure he’ll stick around 👍

agree. I feel like you can pinpoint the time when he and his family were angry with Moses and his antics (the Joey Johns chat about creating a legacy) and when Isaac began to regain control.

he’s been completely noncommittal and is reading from the exact same script Moses, Tedesco and Woods did in 2016.

with that in mind, Latu needs a full year in reserve grade to prepare for the worst. if Galvin does sign with another club come November, Latu needs to be ready. it’s at that point we can move Galvin to the edge or to 13.
