Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Has to happen now M will run out of opportunities soon big enough that's for shore.
Not worth resigning, for us, no matter how good he plays.Did hear he excelled as a 1/2 back , 5/8th ? in Reggies last year.We the WT,s can dump a fare few under performers next year.Listened to the WTFP? on the cap ,think they have 700 missing if its manipulated right, that may have been their point ?? 2 doesnt go into 1

It depends on the individual doesn't it. Some players are adaptable and can play a variety of positions. Others have specialist skillsets that make them good in one position.

I moved from #6 to centre and it ruined my career. I was a ball player, created chances, had the vision to set up others with my passing and kicking game, controlled the set from start to finish, directing the forwards around and where I'd want them to go.

It was just too chalk and cheese for me, when I'd spent my whole junior career in one position. I effectively became a wide ball player, which isnt what you want from a centre. Defence was solid, but all in all it was a failure...

It's like Douhei in the centres, it just makes him look like a sh1t footy player, when he's not. He's just out of position.
Unfortunately it has been Douhei’s defence that has the chance to ruin his career (and make him look like a bad footy player), regardless of his position

Crack down on
Play the balls.... No more rolling it and stepping over

Been there. Done that

I hope that it is enforced consistently and not thrown by the wayside again early on in the season. Teams don't deserve the advantage gained by a quick play the ball and the roll on it often creates if they fail in carrying out the action.

It also throws up a bit more personal responsibility, and variety into matches through more potential changes of possession.

Wait till tomorrow when Penrith play Canberra at the same venue …..
Yeah I don’t get that 1.
Would have made much more sense to have the opening ‘trial’ game the all stars tonight.
And a proper double header tomorrow night with the 4 Vegas teams.

I’m a big Lachie Galvin fan, have been since long before he was even mentioned as a possibility of playing NRL.
However you are 💯 correct here Tucker, how can you put someone who has played one decent rookie season for the team who ended up with the wooden spoon, on par with someone such as Dylan Brown who has been in the elite category for numerous seasons and is an integral part of his teams success ?
As you say there is a chance opposing clubs will offer LG an over inflated contract based on his potential, but I’d say nearly all that are interested in him will be watching him very closely this season to see how he continues to develop before being certain if they will throw their hat in the ring to try and sign him on elite player contract money.
The pressure on him to perform at an elite level is immense based on this expectation and the rumoured money he can earn, it can go one way or another for him this season, he either thrives on the expectation or could possibly crumble because of it.
I want him to remain a Wests Tigers long term as much as anyone and I truly believe he will stay if we produce much improved results in 2025 and his own form contributes, however at this point of time it would be foolish to rush in and offer him anywhere near 1 million dollars per season that I’m guessing his manager is telling him he will get.
IF he goes from strength to strength and plays an integral part in Wests Tigers being in or very close to the top 8 by the halfway mark of season 2025, then we would have to consider offering him somewhere close to a million dollars per season on a long term deal.
Sorry can’t agree… Dylan Brown is not in elite territory.

Have neve been happy when receiving a penalty for this infringement and utterly spewing when our team gives one away.

Would rather the ref sent them back to play the ball with their foot than have some penalty attached. The stop in momentum by having to go back is penalty enough.

I'm not against playing the ball properly, but handing over possession is too harsh.

Don’t mind that idea 👌🏻. Similar to if you pass it after they’ve called held. No longer a penalty.

And what data/tape would they have on the Luai/Galvin combination to make these plans?

Do you not believe Galvin will play a different role this year?
Man if you don’t think there’s going to be a downturn in Galvins performances , then I don’t know what to tell you . I’m not saying it will be 6 weeks , a season , or like Tim smith or Mortimer junior a one year wonder … I’m not saying any of that , it’s just inevitable there will be a downturning performance , in which Galvin and the club will have to counter . I mean we saw it really , well the beginnings of it , at the end of last year .
Im not going to fanboy a 19 year old .hes a prodigy to be sure , and i hope he can lead us to glory , but there’s a reason nearly every player suffers from the dreaded “second year syndrome” . The best ones just only suffer from it for a few games , and move forward … the worst ones , well I just mentioned a couple .

Second year syndrome is a real issue with most young players. Although you would think Galvin has a chance of sidestepping it as it would appear he will be playing in a way better side.

The key for Galvin will be not over playing his hand and knowing when to do his stuff. Anyway we will soon know

Mortimer was always shit. Jumped on the coats tails of his dad or grand dad’s coat tails.

Yea maybe . And in hindsight , it’s easy to Monday morning quarterback it , but no one was saying that at the time .
Tim smith , ash Taylor , Jamal Idris , I mean all these guys lacked the humility and dedication , that Galvin appears to have in spades , so you’d think the odds of Galvin joining the one hit wonders is 1 in a 1000. But it’s not zero . That’s the point I’m making , and it’s basically a 💯 chance that at some point in the next couple of years he will hit a wall .
And that’s a good thing for him , because you don’t get better at things by knowing all the answers before you start .
I just think we will have to be patient . We weren’t with Brooks , we weren’t with Benji , to lesser degree we weren’t with AD, and I can see history repeating with Galvin .
We are a loyal fanbase , but geez we are pretty toxic and short sighted .
I was reading a Tottenham fan page today , and Jesus did it look familiar.
This not to bad or praise anyone , just to temper expectations . Because if he doesn’t live up to the hype , people on here will turn on him real quick .
AD is a perfect example . I was one of 3 people criticising him with his defence and unwillingness to hit with his shoulder . Was told to F off and I was a brooks pipe sucker , and a racist etc. now that’s the generic group think, and whilst it’s cool to be validated , it doesn’t change how toxic it all turned out to be when his attacking form fell off a cliff .
Brooks … nuf said . I honestly still think the fanbase and our attitude towards him was as much as a contributor to his never getting anywhere as anything else . We put all our hopes and dreams on a 18 year old and when he turned out to probably , needing to be dropped and developed for a few years , the club had made him the pinup boy , when he wasn’t good enough .
It all just feels like history repeating imho .

I think Galvin from week to week last season was patchy. What stands out in him is his confidence for his age and his willingness to back himself.Couple that with his elite fitness and aptitude for training - not sure that can be taught. I have no doubts about him other than who will be playing for.

I honestly don't get the concern around Galvin and if he gets "2nd year syndrome" . From a results point of view sure, its not what we want, but from a contract point of view, it only becomes a concern if there is a long term contract and the 2nd year syndrome turns into a 3rd, 4th year etc. Otherwise the good players come through it and some never get it at all.
A lot better judges then most of us think he will be generational, the club needs to make sure he is developed to reach those levels. Galvin and his family are a lot closer than all of us to what is going on in there and in a far better position to make a call on whether they like the way the club is going or not.

Of course if in the end it is all about money only and he leaves, then there was never going to be anything the club could have done.

Good idea WT the hold up in play will stink up momentum coaches will hate that and there will be plenty of play the ball practice and ridicule at training till they get it right.
