Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'm outdated but I'll happily wear that tag and I am commenting based on your post. NRL players are professional sportsman, and the top players are well paid win or lose. Winning is fundamental to competitive sport however it is not always possible. All teams or individuals go onto the playing field or court to win, Adopting the position that you will stay only if your team is winning, or you want to go to a winning team is not the mindset imo of a team player. Players such as Luai, one of the biggest signings in the NRL has the confidence to come to the WTs. And what constitutes a winning team? The Roosters, Canterbury or the Panthers? What is your view on this?

you are comparing a 28 yr old Luai who has won 4 premierships in a row to a younger Tedesco who hadn’t won Jack at that time ?

Galvin has said he wants to play on a winning team … it doesn’t matter where he ends up going … he will be nicely compensated.., so I don’t blame him for also wanting to go to a successful team when probably most teams will be interested in acquiring him

If Richo thought $700k would do it and galvin would extend for another few years he would give up a second rower and center this year and clear more dead out.

As Gould said - whoever has Lachlan galvin in their team in the future will win premierships

Signing those two positions in front of him IF he would take the money would be disastrous.

Teddy left and the chooks won 3 prems.

Richo is smarter than all of us anyway - he knows that it’s the biggest priority the club has I’m sure

Richo might know it … but it will still be up to what Galvin wants to do at the end of the day

Luai is arguably the best half in the NRL. It is a huge vote of confidence in WTs as I am sure he was in demand. Most young halves could only dream of playing beside Luai or Cleary. Galvin will be playing for WTs for the next 2 years on a modest contract. Any talk of him playing with a "winning team" and being "nicely compensated" is just that until his contract expires. As a supporter of WTs I hope young Fainu and Mason provide competition for the NRL 6 jersey. We do have some depth which is a credit to our club.

But you agree it’s easier for Luai to make that move to the bottom team ( who offered the most money mind you) given that he has already had the success most players can only dream of ?

No. It would have been easier for Luai to go to a "winning team" where he would be even more "nicely compensated" than Galvin where there is more of everything and not facing the threat of a fourth wooden spoon. Luai is prepared for a challenge and I have no doubt his presence at our club is reflected in our strong recruitment drive. His impact on the club will be profound.

Teddy left us for less money. I don’t get it. Does Galvin want to play in a winning side or not? If he does he needs better players around him.
We were told Teddy went to East for less money,
Does anyone really believe that was the truth.
Cause I'm one of many that can't believe anyone that is mentally sound would throw all that money away to possibly win a ring worth $20k.

That makes sense until you remember that we have a long history of letting players go after we said we wouldnt and especially recently, parting ways well before their contract expires.
We have to have a very good year in 2025 to keep him I'd suspect.

Maybe the Luai get out clause is what’s holding the extension up .

Galvin might not want to sign up for 3+years if Luai is potentially gone after 2 .

Luai has already attracted players to the club & he’ll probably be a part of them staying too .

We've evolved with Richardson at the club and good decisions have been made recently to let players go while others like Utoikamanu chose to depart. I suspect Galvin's best days at 6 will be over the next 2 years. We have Fainu and Mason to provide competition plus a very healthy pathways system in situ. I'll let the club be the judge of what a good year looks like rather than Galvin's "team".

well … I would suggest another factor which is much rarer amongst elite players , is that Luai seems to enjoy the challenge of lifting the bottom team to a successful level … he has been quoted as saying so .

But who’s to say Galvin wouldn’t do the same? To be considered, our offer to Galvin will need to be “competitive” or other words overs

Edit, I reread your reply. Would be hard to value what a premiership is worth. Nathan Hindmarsh would have an opinion.

There's a bit of selective memory here. When we signed Luai there were plenty of people queuing up to tell us it was massive overs and Luai would flop without Cleary. It's only a whole season of running the team that's convinced a lot of observers that he's a top five or six half in his own right. I agree that he would have been in demand but I wonder how many real offers he got that competed with what the Tigers put in front of him. Anyway, no shortage of commentary along the lines of him having done his winning and being ready to cash in at the retirement home.

His "team" have more influence than our club does. Richo and Benji can sell the dream. That makes them good marketers. The kid already has a career record of sub 25%.
If he wants success, we better well provide some if we want him here long term. Theres systems out there that will scratch his itch immediately.
