Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There's a bit of selective memory here. When we signed Luai there were plenty of people queuing up to tell us it was massive overs and Luai would flop without Cleary. It's only a whole season of running the team that's convinced a lot of observers that he's a top five or six half in his own right. I agree that he would have been in demand but I wonder how many real offers he got that competed with what the Tigers put in front of him. Anyway, no shortage of commentary along the lines of him having done his winning and being ready to cash in at the retirement home.
I wasn't in that queue. The commentary you refer to sounds like sour grapes from those who were in the queue and now have did not buy remorse

His "team" have more influence than our club does. Richo and Benji can sell the dream. That makes them good marketers. The kid already has a career record of sub 25%.
If he wants success, we better well provide some if we want him here long term. Theres systems out there that will scratch his itch immediately.
Richardson and Marshall have Galvin for the next two years. Two years is a long time. We have our own pathways in place and in Fainu and Mason two good young halves.

Yep, having good depth currently for his position gives us a bit of breathing room.
If we could convince Lachlan and entourage that he would be a very serious player in the pack it would be a great outcome. Big money doesnt neccessarily have to be given to spine players alone. Big Jase at the Cowboys has been on a mill per year since 2017.

Wasn’t far off in what the tea leaves told me lol

Think about it. For a second. Would you like your personal life being being divulged in public. Your health record? 4pm Email. We gotta say something. Keep the fans happy. Throw some bread and water at em. Like in the Gladiator film. Who cares if he plays or not. Its only the first game. Its a long season.

Okay. Let's break this down. What if Galvin is playing for us for the next 2 years. BUT - he signed with another club for 2027. Are you content with 2026?

Galvin is a fine young player and keeping him at the club is preferable. I believe I have heard this tune before and am pessimistic at the outcome post two years time.

Payne Haas is on 1 mil+ too,

Look even Galvin himself has said he knows he’ll eventually move into Lock/Backrow. He just wants to play 6 as long as possible.

If he stays until then we have Latu (if he’s happy to bide his time playing with his brothers etc) we have an extremely talented backup. I think everyone forgets Latu had bigger wraps than Galvin, Galvin was unknown by most people prior to round 2 last year.

We are in a very fortunate position and I’m grateful we have both, it was only 2 years ago we had a starting halves pairing of Brooks and Wakeham.

Hypothetically though, if the cap doesn't increase and Galvin dies go to 13 and Latu is our long term 6, could we justify paying 1 million to a lock, how much would Latu command if he develops.
If the Penrith/ Australian Lock Forward isn’t on big dollars I’d be shocked.
I don’t understand when people say someone isn’t worth the money because he’s not a fullback, Half,Hooker or Prop.
It’s all about Roster management and for the first time in a long time we seem to be getting our Roster into a good position, I can see us looking for 2nd rower’s & Centres at the end of this year to further improve our squad going forward.
IMO
Richo has been our best signing for a very long time.

We have a better squad than Melbourne dude.

We were told Teddy went to East for less money,
Does anyone really believe that was the truth.
Cause I'm one of many that can't believe anyone that is mentally sound would throw all that money away to possibly win a ring worth $20k.
Is that what you think his compensation has been? LMAO.
What about all the exposure he has received? All the awards, all the rep games - captaining them as well?
What about all the connections that will see him farting through silk for the rest of his life?
He saw the big picture and it has proven an extremely well educated decision for him.
