It will never make sense. MM was the 7 in the lower grades....

Yeah mate, sometimes I think we take a guy who has learned how to play a position and has been successful there and try and shift him to play a totally different game style and this is midway through his career.

Time will tell, but having seen Luai run a team with Samoa and Penrith, I'd rather have him at 6 and let him do what he's good at.

Happy to see how it all goes though, but a good 7 can come into a team and you can see an immediate difference because they know how to direct the pieces to set up for points. It's Galvin who naturally takes that role, albeit with inexperience.

Not saying Galvin is the answer, just comparing the playing styles. You could see it with Brooks and Moses too...Moses just wanted the ball in his hands to direct everything. Galvin seems similar. Luai seems happier to wait for his moments and ice them like he did with our try against Newcastle.

Not bashing or writing off Luai just yet. It's just something I've noticed which could be down to new combos and new team for Jarome. Admittedly, you are taking a guy that has played many years of footy with the same dudes and moving him to a team and system which is new. It's going to take time.

The rating system has been thrown around before, but there are many issues with it. The least of which is getting the rating right. If clubs struggle to determine player value through salary, how will it be determined through ratings? Can you imagine the arguments around player ratings from one person to another?

John Bateman is a great example. He's an English international. Victor Radley...also an English international. Are they rated the same?

Never said it would be easy, NRL would have to employ someone smarter than us to work out the components to come up with a value, but if they could get it right would solve a lot of problems.

The easiest would be to subsidise clubs trying to keep their juniors. NRL could chip in $100 or $200k on top per year to the club as an incentive for developing the player. Watch - if the Roosters were to focus on junior development, this system would be in the news. But they'll argue because their junior base is tiny, they are at a disadvantage.

Yes their form and results werent what was expected, however instead of getting to the bottom of the problem, we got rid of them. They are both still considered good enough to play for their respective countries


Papali'i did give that impression. Why wasnt this stomped on? Weak management. Bateman did not give this impression at all and actually said the opposite.

So you agree they were overpaid for what we were getting from them, which then in turn makes it good business to move them on. Let's see if their new clubs get more out of them, I have my doubts they will but happy to be proven wrong.

No im am not in agreeance currently that Fainu and Seyfarth will do the job that these guys did. Under a decent coach we would have received value for money both on the field and off it from them.

I think the surprise move would be luring Wayne Bennett.

Richo should have the relationship already, Souths seems like a basketcase now.
Telling Benji "Hey your doing ok, but need to work on a few points with Coaching" may work if we can bring Bennett over.

... Yes before anyone else says it, it's a huge longshot. Including that souths would tank enough for them to punt Bennett.

Otherwise were in a really tight position with Benji. Notice how Sheens's signings have left us now?
It seems really obvious that Sheens signed that front row and are not onside with the coach. If Benji is replaced, it could be tough keeping some of our signings with a new coach. Exception being someone known from penrith (for good or bad).

They probably got sick and tired of arguing with a lot of the other members on here as sometimes their opinions a lot of people on here didn’t agree with. I know Earl was big on Brooks which we all know is a popular topic on here even though he’s gone. And Tony got into arguments with just about everybody at some point. I myself had disagreements with both of them but I never hated them, not saying the others did but I know they weren’t well liked. Maybe they might come back one day but maybe they’re enjoying not being on here.

The contracts that get attention are big money, long term contracts. We currently don’t have any of those. Except for Luai, but too early to tell how that will pan out.

I get what you are saying.

I also totally agree, you change a team for a player its one change.
You change the position of the player, it's another change.

You change both, then it's doubel the amount of changes you have to manage.
Add to that, Halfback is one of the most difficult positions in the NRL.

Had Luai not played those games for Penrith at 7, I would be really worried. Moderately worried.

They wouldn't have to do much to match the output of the other two, and us such good value. As I said let's see what the other two produce at their new clubs before making assumptions that it was our club/coach impacting their form and not just that they aren't up to the money they were on.

To your point Steve, if that person existed, we would currently have a perfect system. The NFL pours billions into their sport and they have ended up with a salary cap...

My true opinion is that quality talent is very thin compared to other rugby league eras. Producing more talent will drive prices down and put more talent into the lower clubs.

I would love to see reserve grade become a comp on it's own supported by the NRL. People will say there are no crowds, but they support the womens game with 1800 average crowds and they get rails run TV slots and play before the men in some cases.

A kid who might be 50/50 about a league career probably won't take the risk of playing on because if they don't make it, they can barely earn enough to survive.

In soccer, you can be playing in 2nd or 3rd tier and be on a livable wage in some countries.
