Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

No im am not in agreeance currently that Fainu and Seyfarth will do the job that these guys did. Under a decent coach we would have received value for money both on the field and off it from them.
They wouldn't have to do much to match the output of the other two, and us such good value. As I said let's see what the other two produce at their new clubs before making assumptions that it was our club/coach impacting their form and not just that they aren't up to the money they were on.

Never said it would be easy, NRL would have to employ someone smarter than us to work out the components to come up with a value, but if they could get it right would solve a lot of problems.
To your point Steve, if that person existed, we would currently have a perfect system. The NFL pours billions into their sport and they have ended up with a salary cap...

My true opinion is that quality talent is very thin compared to other rugby league eras. Producing more talent will drive prices down and put more talent into the lower clubs.

I would love to see reserve grade become a comp on it's own supported by the NRL. People will say there are no crowds, but they support the womens game with 1800 average crowds and they get rails run TV slots and play before the men in some cases.

A kid who might be 50/50 about a league career probably won't take the risk of playing on because if they don't make it, they can barely earn enough to survive.

In soccer, you can be playing in 2nd or 3rd tier and be on a livable wage in some countries.

Justin Matamua lining up in the #13 for Ryde Eastwood Hawks in Ron Massey Cup later this afternoon.

Also in that team are NSW Cup contracted players 3 Simon Tito, 6 Mikey Tannous, 9 Bailey Hodges, 10 Jirah Momoisea, 14 Luke Jack & 16 Noah Johannssen AND 8 Herman Tofaeono, 9 Kobie Wilson currently playing in Sydney Shield (losing 4-24 to Wentworthville).

Can we get a show of hands of how many had him in the starting 13 this year?
Hasn't stood out in any grade above Ball - And there's no real evidence he stood out there either.
RM Cup is where he belongs.

Not all gloom and doom- WT escaped being mentioned in some of the worst NRL recent contracts. I know we sure have some contenders but it does put our recruitment and retention success or otherwise in a form of perspective. NOT ALL BAD. 🙂

Man some of the contracts mentioned are not the worst top 10.

Idris to the Titans, surely not the worst contract ever?

It's the media they nominate who they like with no idea of the reality of it and think it's gospel, we would question it, but some suckers out there with not much knowledge of NRL could believe it.

Well if it’s proven they aren’t up to the money they were on, that’s still this clubs fault.

Here's an idea to ponder, the NRL should get rid of all these independent scum player managers and have their own in house.
Then the NRL should come up with a rating system to determine a player's value.
If they want a move or are not wanted by their present club those from the bottom up that are in need of a player in that position get first crack, this way the lure of money isn't involved and you have a better chance of hanging onto your juniors developed by the club, the way it should be after all the time and money put into their development.
There would have to be a limit of say 2 a year the destination clubs could acquire.
This would do 2 things even up the competition and help to manage salary caps easier.
Just my thoughts feel free to add any ideas to improve.
Honestly, I know absolutely nothing about A.F.L, but they have it all over the N.R.L in terms of their draft system and how it incorporates their junior development players and their senior squad. Next EBA the fans need to en masse tell the N.R.L we want it and tell Clint Newton the same. Give the players something in return, make it a condition the players must agree to on every N.R.L contract, which if not agreed to prohibits the contract being registered by the N.R.L. We need a draft system bad. If anyone challenges it like Terry Hill, argue it's not a restraint of trade, the player has the ability to ply their trade in lower grades as well as Europe, America and Canada through their leagues. No one is entitled to be an N.R.L player it is a privilege, a privilege the players through the support of their families spend years working hard toward, but a privilege not a right non the less.

Open to any idea that keeps the teams more equal from season to season it's so boring seeing the same teams dominate and the others underperform.

I think the surprise move would be luring Wayne Bennett.

Richo should have the relationship already, Souths seems like a basketcase now.
Telling Benji "Hey your doing ok, but need to work on a few points with Coaching" may work if we can bring Bennett over.

... Yes before anyone else says it, it's a huge longshot. Including that souths would tank enough for them to punt Bennett.

Otherwise were in a really tight position with Benji. Notice how Sheens's signings have left us now?
It seems really obvious that Sheens signed that front row and are not onside with the coach. If Benji is replaced, it could be tough keeping some of our signings with a new coach. Exception being someone known from penrith (for good or bad).
Iv thought abit about what would happen if Benji needs to be tapped on the shoulder, if I was in fantasy land and running the joint my way, I'd say Benji you've had a white hot crack but atm the younger guys just need abit of an older head. I'd ask Benji to move to assistant coach for 3 years to gain more experience and bring in a new head coach. Once the new head coach does their 3 years I'd be open to giving Benji another shot in first grade, with an extra 3 years under his belt, plus the first year as an assistant and 2 years as the first grade coach, if he's not ready by then, then he just hasn't got it.

Throw enough darts in a dark room with a blindfold on eventually you'll get a bullseye.

Wentworthville up 10-6 at HT, let’s see if Matamua can lead us to a come from behind win.

And the draft is a month long lead up in the media with all the behind the scenes deals, then the actual draft lasts a week of non stop televised trades. Plus all the interest the combines create for the juniors. It would be a massive money maker for the N.R.L in say mid November to mid December, right in the middle of the off-season. They could do it anytime really I just use that as an excuse.

There must be a reason why the NRL won't touch it but no reason why they couldn't come up with a hybrid variation, good job for an NRL think tank.
