LIVE GAME Round 2 versus Eels

Live Game Discussion
Mate you know what I enjoyed the most? Bloody Turuva and how happy he was when he scored and how it pumped the fans. The Tiger claw they came up with to engage with the club and fans. Great stuff. Great to see them enjoying it out there.

I love these Penrith boys we bought.
I love the energy! Claws out should be adopted by all tigers fans. Love seeing them enjoy their footy

You can see that energy in their defence also, worked so hard all game.

Luai is the CEO - Chief Energy Officer. Turuva must be his second in charge. Loved seeing him talking crap to the eels players too lol

Yeah man he's awesome. The way they get about makes it seem like they all have each others back. If we wanted a culture, we are looking at it.

I think that culture shows with Royce Hunt, a player often talked about as being lazy, chasing a line break in the last minutes of a game where it was 37 degrees

Seeing him save a try by keeping up with Lomax and Samrani was terrific. Benji should be playing that in repeat all week at training

Just reading all the comments. It doesn't take much to have everyone fist pumping.

We have not beaten anyone yet. Parra will basically be a bye for most teams this year. Good to get the win, but we didn't put 32 on Penrith or Melbourne. Gotta put it into perspective.
Why do you wanna.think about the future when that's often all we have when things aren't.going well which has been.always for long time (judge time next year blah blah, five year plan blah blah., always next year etc)
Enjoy the now...worry bout tomorrow tomorrow

Haha oh come on.

Just being measured. It's hard to get a read on how good we were given the opposition.

I'm interested to see how we go against more able opposition that's all.
You’re probably right mate but 12 wins likely you gets you to the finals so we need to cherish them when they come along. We’ve often lost those in the past. Another big opportunity this Sat.

I posted an interesting stat during the week, that after 2019 (5 seasons completed) we have not held a team to less than 12 points more than twice in a season.

And we've already done it two weeks in a row, which is a promising platform. More than that, most teams are actually scoring a lot of points these first two rounds - the winnings sides are posting 30+ points and even the losers are posting ~20 points.

We are a clunky team so far but they already appear to have more heart than many of the sides we've run out over several seasons.

Something is amiss with Samuela Fainu…..he has had a poor start to the season…looks disinterested, doesn’t run with any intent….todays stats…58m on only 5 runs…led the missed tackle count with 5….last week he was just as poor
Missed 5, but made 32. You'd have to go back and have a look at the tackles he missed. Quite a lot to make standing in 36 degree heat for 80 minutes.

One thing I noticed last year and in Rd 1, was that Galvin used Fainu a lot, even when he should have cut him out and spread it. Teams were eating it up, because the truth is, he is still developing physically. Perhaps they decided to push past the backrowers in attack more to give the backs more opportunities and not be so one dimensional?

It's hard to make a call on anyone really after a bludger in Rd 1 and a bludgeoning of a weak Parra in Rd 2. The next 5 rounds we have Dolphins, Warriors, Brisbane, then Knights and Parra again.

I think there's enough sample size at that point to start making some more definitive observations around how we are tracking.

Couple of media personalities have questioned the Missed Tackles stat and how it's measured.

Defence resolve is critical if we Anna club the ladder.

I think what some are underestimating is our goal line defence
In the 2nd half Parra thru penalties and repeat sets had 6 continuous sets in our red zone. Must have been 20+ straight tackles and everytime they looked like getting over the line then last ditch scrambling tackles by 2 or 3 defenders stopped them just short . It was excellent although Parra were not very creative .Even Dylan Brown with his sidestep could occasionally beat the first guy but not the second
Go back a week and the Knights who have a fantastic backline only got 10 points and that's with Ponga ,Best ,Gagai ,Marshew and the most elusive half in the game Fletcher Sharpe
Early days but seems we have a team that works hard for each other
Note May is incredibly fit so many hit ups and crucial tackles
Note Hunt 101m in just 31 mins and the chase when their right-winger was away .This was special
Note they scored their only try with 50 secs left in the game when we were down to 12

Yes first 25 mins a lot of dropped ball by both sides but I was there and it was extremely hot and humid.
In the end we scored 6 tries in a 48 min stretch not bad at all !

Just to add to your Hunt stat. It was 101m in only 7 hitups. Massive numbers
