He was a lot better last year. Actually used his shoulder instead of arm grabbing. Way better than previous years. Must be someone else out there though.Did it?
His tackle efficiency in 2024 was the lowest it had been since 2018....

Katoga's also got feet for hands, doesn't matter how good a ball runner you are if we can't get the ball to youKautoga and Tuilagi would have to be a couple of the worst defensive second rowers currently in NRL rotation.
Absolutely hilariously bad without the ball.
.....and they're both at the Eels. Lol.
No unfortunately but you don't free up 3 spots for no reason. I think Taylan may still be in the mix and reckon the others will be contracted and released by other clubs.Can you name them please ?
Joe chan is a front rowerDoubt we’d get him for this season but I think Joe Chan at Melbourne would be an upgrade in our backrow and can’t see him getting a spot at the storm behind Blore and Katoa.
Tough one. A Jacob Laban or Dylan Egan who are both 20yo and have exciting futures ahead would be good however Samuela is only young too so Benji may wish to recruit a solid, effort-based, experienced backrower to put pressure on Seyfarth immediately.Going into a Bryce Cartwright like deal would be panicking for me and reeks of mistakes we have made over and over with recruitment. Our back row is dire but I would prefer to hold off, cover as well as possible from within the squad and wait for the right player. Think Sione Fainu would slot into the back row if there is an injury.
I think we're beyond plodders at this stage. Seyfarth offers the same, with arguably more versatility, at a younger age.Tough one. I think Jacob Host may be a possibility ...
1 Edge backrower who can also cover middle;
2 Down the pecking order at the Rabbits who may wish to offload him asap if the Brandon Smith deal comes off;
3 Provides experience (did play in the GF with Souths a few seasons back) and would not be seen as holding up future pathway of a Godinet type.
4 2 year deal max for approx $300k pa. He's only contracted at Souths this year.
Brookes alone will be a huge in for a side that is flying at 5 -1.Hopefully we get an injury report from the club this week.
These are the players missing from action this week including some of our key Cup & Flegg players.
-Brent Naden (knee) Round 7.
-Justin Olam (knee) TBC, possible medical retirement.
-Luke Laulilii (rumoured concussion) TBC, forum poster mentioned out for 12 weeks about 5 weeks ago.
-Justin Matamua (not named in any grade this week)
-Eiden Ackland - train & trial (not named in any grade this or last week) TBC
-Cameron Kanaan (off season shoulder surgery from a forum poster a while back) TBC
-Jekope Sovau (hasn't played since trials) TBC
In pathways great to see Logan Brookes named for Balmain SG Ball this week but Siotame Havea Jr continues to miss for Wests Harold Matts (been out about a month now).
I kind of like how we have passed on these types of players.The point was that as he matured as a player he went from a low of mid 80% to averaging 90% over consecutive seasons. Even last year he was just below 90%. He was also pretty good in defence when he first came into grade and went downhill a bit at the Titans.
On the other side of the pill he still has a mistake in him with ball in hand. I feel there is more upside than down with him though. He has experneice and is proven NRL quality that wouldn't break the bank and would shore up our depth.
It's stating the obvious but from a recruitment perspective we are still an unknown quantity. At the moment, guys like Host and Cartwright may be the level of recruit we can manage and probably could manage regardless how well the club is going on the field. But, If we can back ourselves to show by May-June that the side is more than competitive and the "vibes" are good, it will increase our chances of landing a topliner or hot prospect 10x.on I think we're beyond plodders at this stage. Seyfarth offers the same, with arguably more versatility, at a younger age.
It's either a topliner or close to topliner or a young bloke on the fringe looking for a start. I don't see anybody usurping Seyfarth unless they're a clear upgrade.
And that's not a compliment to Alex.
....We need an upgrade on the edge as a matter of urgency.
Don't get me wrong, yes we need an upgrade on the edge but we aren't going to get one for this season unless a miracle drops from the tree.I think we're beyond plodders at this stage. Seyfarth offers the same, with arguably more versatility, at a younger age.

we should've swapped Klemmer for Egan. he is far too good to remain in reserve grade. had his first game of the year on the weekend and ran up the followingTough one. A Jacob Host would provide depth for 2 seasons & would be much better to vie with Seyfarth for the right edge this year than a Porter, Sukkar, Sione Fainu or Tumeth.
Then he can drop back to depth next season once we recruit a Kai Pearce-Paul or Jordan Riki for next year!!!
Only thinking if they secure another player for this season & need to free up cap or spots. Is Brandon Smith a possibility there this year?He is providing that depth to Souths now..they picked him on their extended bench this week …why would they let him go to become depth for us ? Iit would be like us letting say Mason go
Do you think they're not serious about this season?If the front office is serious about this season, we will have a prop, 2nd rower and centre signed sooner rather than later. Obviously depends somewhat on Olam's medical retirement.
No thanks.Don't get me wrong, yes we need an upgrade on the edge but we aren't going to get one for this season unless a miracle drops from the tree.
