All stats are up for some degree of interpretation, however we have the highest amount of missed tackles which alone says our defence isnt the best. We have had a blessed start re: our 'against' column. 16 points is an awesome return against two sides who generally pile the points on against us. Its been 6 years since we had a start like this after our first 2 games.
  • 2024 = 38
  • 2023 = 36
  • 2022 = 52
  • 2021 = 70
  • 2020 = 56
  • 2019 = 12

Out of 15 metrics, we are Green in 5 of them, Yellow in 6 of them and Red in 4 of them.

10 from 15 need improvement, so while the interpretations on individual stats might be valid, when you are needing improvement across 66% of all stats, the general story is being told reasonably well.

We've also played a rusty Knights team and a horrific Eels team. Our biggest weakness is stringing 3 games together and playing away. I think we will get a lot of answers out of this game.

The missed tackle stat can be misleading but limiting tackle breaks would be great
Nah man , missed tackles is the only thing that matters . Didn’t you know it’s way worse to miss 3 tackles on the fullback who brings it out of trouble. It’s the real scoreboard. I don’t even look at the final score all we should care about is the missed tackle count ….
On a side note imagine you’re that arrogant , rather than admit you might have jumped the gun , you go and spend hours collating stats to justify your shitty position . Rather than you know …. Maybe admit you might have got it wrong ? 😑
Former head coaches talk about how the “missed tackle” is misleading and overrated , but yet it’s brought up as this Magic bullet statistic… .
In all seriousness if you put your body in the way , and do that every tackle for 80 minutes , you will win more than your fair share .
Defence is all about effort on the fort on effort on effort for 80mins .

Could Adam D. cover fullback if needed? Staines and Mason are a little small.
I would Leave Doueihi at Centre so the combination can continue to get better between himself, Skeleton, S.Fainu and Luai.
Keeping Farmworth quiet will require plenty of work as well as the Hammer sniffing around.
I’m hoping the defence holds up again this weekend.

I dont mind him at centre but guys like Herbie are a huge challenge for a renowned non tackler. Needs to meet him aggressively at the advantage line, not stand back and wait, otherwise he’ll kill you.( my wild card pick would be Douehi to f/b- if Bula out - and Bird in the centres to provide some aggression).

I just don’t think we can move Doueihi every time he is up against a top centre,
He either learns how to improve his defence or we try to find someone who can do the job.
Leave him in the deep end and let’s see if this year if he can swim or not.

I agree, it was only if Bula was out. Yes, he has to continually work hard on d, especially first contact, coz he’s a grabber not a tackler.

I dont care who the Dolphins rollout against our boys,if our leadership group on the field keep the youth focused on playing controlled, disciplined football and the young guys keep developing well each game, then we will hand the Phins their 3rd straight loss...
I know its early days and I respect the opposition as we all should, but there was alot to like about last week and I expect the team to be even more in sync with each others game and how to play to structure and gameplans.......high hopes for the win this week...👍

Agree 100%
I think we will get a real idea how we are travelling after this weekend.
Not having a go at you mate...I think we are going ok right now...we've improved rd1 to 2...as
long as we see subtle constant improvements...but I really don't understand the "next week will REALLY tell us where we are" thoughts.
I read this after round 1.
We'll read it again dozens of times thru the season.

The losers in last night's game probably took more out of it than the victors - bar the 2 points...I wonder if penrith fans said the same thing last week and if theyd be proud now

Id be happy if my side was depleted of its best players and we still managed to post 5 tries every week.
15 tries scored this year so far despite losing 2 from 3. They tweak their defence a smidgen and theyre winning these games.

I’m looking for consistent performances and how we go this week hopefully just continues on the same defensively as the first two rounds.

I'd love that too... it's a long season and dramatic improvements are probably unrealistic.... consistency performances with slight improvement would be great

if Bula is ruled out and Bostock and Finefeuiaki come into their side then our perceived advantage shrinks considerably.

Redcliffe have built a reputation in a very short space of time for scrapping for everything. if we aren't prepared for a dogfight it could get really tough.
Both of those dolphins players are in. A couple of big ins for them.
