OFFICIAL Taylan "Tiny" May

WHY?

I mean seriously why say this?
I am pretty sure we have the cap space this season.
Why backend someone and ruin 2026/2027?
Are we really going to make the top 8 this season? Are we really going to play the grand final that we should hobble ourselves for 26/27???

Tyrone May isn't the kind of player we should frontload. But we shouldn't backend-load this guy. Why harm our future.
All things being equal,we have half of Klemmers $$(about $350)and whatever Souths have compensated us for Bud(say about $200)
Less upgrades if required to....Galvin and TDS shld they re-sign..who are the priority over May atm
Lot of moving parts for the Boss to juggle am sure hes all over it
But Olam s retirement releases us a further $300k this year and importantly $600k next yr

I

it’s Taylan May- ex panthers, Centre , gun player in a position we need
And it’s not front loading it’s a 3 year deal with part of 2025 already gone so the amount is lower
Well it's backloading. The biggest paycheck is 2027.
Sure it's almost April, so pay him 2/3rds of a year or whatever.
But we should be Frontloading contracts, not backloading them. Why nuke 2027?

I don’t care what you call it , to me it’s $ part payment 2025
Full payment 2026
And a club option 2027 with a pay rise if kept , this would be for his ability to play as he did at the panthers , anyway , we probably read more about him on Monday as Olam is gone , Klemmer is gone and Bud is over at south’s so we got plenty to pay him with , Monday 1 pm

And the next challenge ladies and gentlemen...if we do really well and are competitive, and seduce Galvin to go around again with us for another 3 years..we have to release Latu....wasting his time here
How does that impact the brothers?

Wests Tigers have received salary cap dispensation from the NRL for centre Justin Olam in a move that is expected to give them the financial artillery to launch an all-out bid to retain teenage star Lachlan Galvin.
This masthead understands that the Tigers were given the green light by the NRL on Thursday after seeking a cap exemption for Olam, who was forced to medically retire due to a knee injury suffered last year.

The move means the Tigers will have Olam’s salary removed off their cap for the remainder of this year and next. Throw in the departure of David Klemmer, who has joined St George Illawarra, and the club is likely to have an additional seven-figure sum to use to bolster their squad.

At the top of their hit- list is Galvin, the prodigious teenager who is off contract at the end of next season and able to speak to rival clubs when he enters the final year of his deal on November 1.
The Tigers have made no secret of their desire to tie Galvin to a long-term deal and the Olam agreement means they will now have the monetary muscle to bump up his salary cap next season as part of any long-term offer.

Galvin is expected to attract interest from a handful of clubs if the Tigers are unable to get a deal done before the start of November.

Parramatta and the Bulldogs have been prominently linked with Galvin while Manly are now in the market for halves given the imminent departure of Daly Cherry-Evans.

The Tigers will get first shot at tying him down. They now have seven months to secure him to a long-term deal and they are expected to make their move in coming weeks now that Olam’s future has been determined and they know where they stand from a financial perspective next season.

Any offer from the Tigers to Galvin is expected to include a significant upgrade next year and an ongoing commitment that could be worth as much as $1 million a season.

Dylan Brown’s mega-deal with Newcastle has reset the halves market in a big way and Galvin stands to be one of the main beneficiaries.
The Tigers have also been linked to former premiership-winner Taylan May, who recently had domestic violence charges dropped earlier this month.

If May is to join the Tigers, he will partner with his brother Terrell in a new look side which has the club with two wins and one loss to start their year.

Olam thanked the Tigers faithful and his fans throughout his journey.

“With God, anything is possible. I wish I could keep playing, but my body just won’t allow it anymore,” Olam said.

“I came here hoping just to play one game, and I’ve been blessed a hundred times over to have played more than 100.

“Hopefully, I can inspire a young kid — whether here or back home in PNG — to chase their dreams. I believe everything happens for a reason. At the end of the day, it’s God’s plan.

“Thank you to all my friends, family, and anyone who has supported me throughout my rugby league journey — I appreciate you all.

Tigers coach Benji Marshall said it was an honour to have Olam at the club and wished him the best in his future.

“We congratulate Justin on an incredible career in the NRL and for Papua New Guinea,” Marshall said.

“He will go down as one of the greatest — if not the greatest — players to represent PNG. It’s been an absolute privilege having Justin at our club, and we wish him and his family all the very best in the next chapter of their journey.”

Olam finishes his career with a premiership, along with a Dally M centre of the year award.

At the end of the day… the Tigers only have themselves to blame …. Even us nobodies here knew he was a croc and said so from the moment he was linked with them
True, but to obtain medical retirement it must be defined as a new injury, not a pre existing one. So it must have been something that happened AFTER he joined us( or at least that’s what we’ve been able to prove). Whatever it was he was a risky signing so let’s hope this is another key learning about recruitment.
Bellamy knew he was a risk which is why 1) he was dropped and 2) he was cut by the Storm.

“risky “ is right …

I think I’m at the stage where I’m just happy now they have moved on with 18 months left on his salary which they can utilise for other purposes…

That is exactly why I rant against Depth in the backs and halves.

We have 4x halfbacks, they are going to go looking for the 800k salary. Particularly Latu who could earn it.
Flip it, maybe he is ok here on 500k? (can't remember the amount, but I think his wage was high). being an understudy for awhile.

Still soon he is going to start looking. Samuela Fainu is a decent 2RF. not a gun, but does the job.

We kinda need the Fainu's and are a better team with them.
All we can offer Latu is that bench spot and IMHO it's a pretty good spot.
Craig Wing, Ben Barba, etc really came on with impact and owned it. Hope he can be happy with that.

TLDR: to keep Galvin (1m) and Luai (1.2M) we can't go having another two halves on 500k+. Club is making the right move in punting Sullivan.

If we are entertaining Galvin on 1m Latu has to be released in the offseason. He’s a starter in the NRL and we can’t have a backup on 500k. Simple cap management.

or we tell Latu to start bulking and prepping to move into the 13 role?
