LIVE GAME Round 5 v Broncos

Live Game Discussion
Hate to sound like a cranky old man but jaysus i hate the video ref.

I cant describe how fun it was to score a try, the ref give it straight away and the joy as you cheered and jumped and yahooed!!

Now you score and watch 48 replays to see if they can find some obscure reason not to give it , it sucks the joy right out of the whole experience.

And what about those six again penalties?? No one even knows what they are for?? You're defending well and boom do it again for another six and boom again try! Its just awful and so not in the spirit of the game.

Now with Saurons eye always watching the most important part of your game is the ability to look agonised when a finger touches your face enough so camera guy gives you a penalty, Players need acting lessons not tackling practise!

I know I'm salty after last night but that experience sucked and tbf ive gone from glued to every game to barely being able to watch us play without throwing my tv out into the street!!
I feel exactly EXACTLY the same .. The NRL needs to do something about this as a lot of people are feeling this way.. this bloody ruck infringement 6 again is so bloody arbitrary and objective and has such a huge influence and effect on the result it needs to stop 🛑!! 🤬

Interesting to see Douehi move into first receiver and Galvin go wider for last 10 mins or so last night.
Dont know if that was a Benji call or he just did it. Nice pass by AD to put Star in for a try although I don’t think Douehi was fully fit last night.

its a concern - he probably should have gone off for a HIA in the first half when he got up wobbling from a tackle.
IMO its his technique, has a somewhat awkward style in head on tackles. Goes in low but doesn’t always utilise his arms and head gets vulnerable. Needs a bit of work on that. At least his hammys seem better.

I don't agree at all, but it was interesting in the press conference that Reynolds said when talking about the chip kick that they had looked at Bula during the week and were planning the chip to catch him out. Obviously they're seeing something similar to your frustrations.
No doubt at all other teams have identified his poor positional play and laziness following the ball in defence.

It's going to continue to happen unless Benji identifies it and corrects it.

It's costing us.

I think it’s subjective.
If every infringement was picked up it would be objective.
Leaving something so important up to interpretation and opinion on the run is destroying teams who are desperately trying to shut down the roll on of the opposition.
I don’t want the stop start of a penalty fest, but teams having to defend 3-4-5 sets in a row with no break is affecting the outcome of games.

7 tries to 5 tries
2 of theirs off forward passes
We were the better team in 1st half
However we got over run in 2nd half
Need to get our best 17 back on the paddock
Our goal kicking was ordinary
All in all 7 tries to 5 not a disgrace
Api and Hunt minutes I question
I love the way the media were making out like we were flogged.

Reality is that with a bit of luck the try tally could have quite easily been in our favour 7 tries to 5.

Even if that was the case at the very best we only win by 2 points or worse still we lose due to goal kicking and a freaky 2 point field goal.

Keep your heads up boys, we are on the improve big time and eventually things will turn our way if we stay positive and don't let our heads drop.

LL played well tonight, he ripped in and didn’t do much wrong except he maybe should have held his position better in the Broncos forward pass try.
He always runs the ball hard and his defensive contact seemed a lot better tonight, so he is no doubt improving with age and experience, but I’m still concerned that he’s very much on the small side compared to most other NRL wingers and I don’t think he’s all that fast either.
A1 for effort, but does he have the right physical attributes to succeed as an NRL winger?
I think hes the shortest and youngest player in the comp....though heavier than jayden campbell by 15kg
He has the ticker fo sho thats a given

Yes, it is. He needs to identify which side the ball is going and move across quicker. Always seems to be jogging but maybe that's an illusion. Would be good if he could study Tedesco's style. Always on the ball.

Reading between the lines I see you have absolutely no idea.
I agree with Patriots commentsz, not all of them. But Bula has been caught out positionally for the past two seasons. It isn’t getting better do what has hodgo done to rectify this???
I believe the fact that he’s not a talker goes again him defensively, if he was watching the attack more calling to players to cover gaps I think he would be better cause his head would be more in the game!

Sione Fainu needs more minutes. Not opposed to May coming off 5-10 minutes earlier in the first half and Sione coming on instead.

Luke Laulilii looked great for his first game. Very handy to have him as a backup, was really good at yardage, in the air and scored a nice try

Tony Sukkar is a lot better than people give him credit for. Carried the ball strongly and got through his tackles well
Sukkar is a big mobile unit...could be anything in a few years....much better than Matamua was/is

Im not a knocker but can you honestly say he had a good second half? i thought Adam when he went to half back did a good job.. Even before the game i honeslty dont believe he is worth a milllion a year
Mate, if there is any truth in the 5 million/5 year deal and he accepts it then maybe it's okay if he goes well and there is no ratchet clause in the contract.

If there is no ratchet clause and he goes well then you could call it a pretty good deal by the time those final years come around.

Still a risk tying up that much money in your halves, just my thoughts anyway.

Not sure I can cop much more of Bula. His positional play and attitude to defence leaves a lot to be desired. I'd say he is up there in with the worst in the comp.

It cost us the game last week him being on the other side of the field when the break occurred and tonight when the game was in the balance he was out of position on a couple of key occasions again.

Surely if we have top 8 aspirations we need to do better at fullback.
