Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Fifita has the talent to be the best 2nd rower in the game.

Put him in a winning team with motivators around him ...

Love the effort Seyfarth puts in but jeez the team would go up another level with a firing Fifita on that edge.
I read he has been dropped for the Titan's game this weekend. Has he peaked at 22/23? On his contract, which would be large, he should be able to motivate himself.

Penrith was the team I hated most after what Ivan did to us but the top spot has been taken over by the eels and Dogs. Sharing equal first
Iv got to be honest it's Parra for me everytime I see Moses smug face looking at himself on the big screen during a game I'm silently hoping a magpie has a go at him, the Panthers I was off but if I'm a dad I totally understand what Ivan did and why he did it, doesn't excuse how he left us in a bad spot but even with an average roster he had us playing great grinding defensive football. He was the best coach we've had since Sheens first stint.
As for the dogs, iv got a bit of a soft spot for them, their fans are all genetically challenged, but they were exactly the same as us propping up the ladder for a few years absolutely hopeless, now they're flying so I don't mind the dogs tbh.

The club's statement re the Galvin matter exposed the farce and to have Ryles publicly state the Eel' interest compounded the joke. You won't see Fitzgibbon releasing players early from the Sharks because it cuts to the heart of what a strong team environment should be. I like it that Richardson has brought steel to WTs dealings over the roster etc and our club should learn a lot from how Fitzgibbon built that new culture at the Sharks.

Its well known dave fifitas history im just thinking out loud if our resurgent forward pack and change of scenery could inspire him to be better....like May did from easts to us

I think we'll get through this season with Galvin. And then no way Richo grants an early release unless we receive something considerable in return.

Yeah, nah..
z z dogs and Gould suck ball, bigs hairy ones!

idk...there has always been a stench around David Fifita...I'd take him for $600k, but he wont take that.
That probably about right for his output.

He is a $2 million dollar player in his day and should be able to carry an entire team to the playoffs, but some games he’s a $2 anchor.
I find it hard to believe Tito puts up with his laziness. I remember a year or so ago watching Tito do everything possible to win the game and Fafita out on the edge being lazy, errors and penalties, it was just so noticeable.

Make no mistake when you watch David Fifita you are looking at Dave Taylor mk2.
All the talent in the world, just doesn’t want to put the hard yards in. I hope the club steers clear
I read some interesting analysis in 2023 making the case that Fifita gets punished for high expectations - basically, if he doesn't run over the top of people for two tries in a game and also put in the type of base numbers you'd expect from an elite middle, people say he's not trying. At the time he was knocking out an average of 170+ metres a game plus a bunch of attacking stats, but he got overlooked for origin anyway.

I must admit I've not seen anything of the Titans this year. But from the basic numbers it's hard to see anything much that suggests Fifita isn't trying. The biggest issue he's got is that he is only playing 50-60 minutes. It's still good for nearly 100m a game and he's an edge, not a middle - it's not his job to be doing great chunks of dirty hit ups. To give one comparison, Hudson Young - arguably the form back rower of the comp - takes mid-teens runs per 80 minutes, while Fifita is taking about a dozen in 50-60. It's the same with tackles - in fact Fifita might just shade it as a per minute rate.

The one game where Fifita played almost the full 80, he blew up for 203m from 17 runs, 10 tackle breaks, a line break, a try assist and four offloads. On the negative side of the ledger, he only played 30 minutes against the Dogs in round 1 (I assume he must not have been fully fit?) and he didn't do anything much in attack against the Dolphins - but that was a game the Titans lost 36-10, and he made 37 tackles with one missed. With no ball he turned into a defensive machine.

I don't think he's a million dollar player but only because no edge back rower this side of peak Sonny Bill is. The question for me is whether he can play 70-80 minutes and produce the same output. If so, he's absolutely an elite edge.
