LIVE GAME Round 10 v Storm

Live Game Discussion
We haven't wanted it enough from the kick-off. This game was lost in the sheds before they even walked onto the field.
And has been coming for a while, maybe we need the players families out on the field as well apparently family is more important than football , Benji should fall on his sword after that disgrace, no coming back from it

you wont your family publicly shamed to mop up your mess in your work space ? get a grip. The Sky Is Falling- squeal

couldn’t watch the game but watched the highlights on Kayo. Ennis said the Tigers were laughing and joking in the dressing room before the game whereas the Storm were all serious as Bellamy addressed them. Difference in attitude.

I don't think banter in the sheds decided the game. Our team has put in some really solid showings so far this season, we were just outclassed in Melbourne. I take two things from this match.

1. The Storm are utterly relentless. They play the game almost as if they don't enjoy it.

2. Brent Naden is no first grader. He's 29, but he's not an old pro. He's never played a whole season of footy for a club in first grade and just lacks the experience even an ordinary experienced outside back centre would bring to our side. For me, I've seen enough. The Bulldogs were smart enough to ship him out after 6 months. If we are going to get smashed or carry a liability in the team I'd rather it be a younger player who's going to learn.

Tackling stats from our starting forwards clearly shows why we got flogged (ESPN)

Seyfarth 54 made 4 missed
May 52 3
Twal 32 0
Api 29 3
Fainu 21 8
Pole 10 0.

Collectively not good enough despite 2 players making over half the tackles between them.Terrible for a pack
Yea, I saw the tackle count and see Seyfarth top it. ...

Where was pole? While Fainu misses 8 tackles and clearly needs some work... I blame the guy who only made 10 tackles and went MIA.

Not going to pile on with the misery too much.

This has been coming, to a degree. Lucky to get a result against St George. Benji even remarked about standards after that win.

Terrell May struggled last week & more again today. He's probably feeling tired, as the 3 games in 13 days after last week will take it's toll. But also, running directly at him, starting to see he isn't a dominating tackler in the first place.

The 2 byes in the next 6 weeks helps. Team is showing fatigue.

But more than that- we are stretched too thin for depth. Staines is a barely satisfactory 1st grade player, asked to play out of position, between Turuva & Galvin. No surprise that the Storm ripped that side of defence to pieces.

If ever there was a week to NOT drop Bird, it was this one. Bird should have played in Staines' spot.

Pole out injured isn't going to help. Who starts now? Tempted to suggest bringing Kit into the squad. Sukkar looked good to me, despite some people really hating on him. His defence appears to hold up better than some of his team mates.

If there is any player that could play closer to 80 minutes in the squad- it's Alex Twal. We miss his defence when he comes off.

That said, we look physically weak against the Storm. Royce Hunt has had zero impact for a few weeks now. I know Sione Fainu looks promising & we want more minutes out of him, but Hunt is a highly paid 20 minute part-time contributor.

With Pole out, I think Hunt MUST start & you run him to zero in the first stint (you might get 25 minutes out of him) & look to bring him back out for 10 minutes in the 2nd half. This is where Kit might be able to come on if he can play like he did in the pre-season.

Toa & Skelton are missed. Skelton in particular took so much heat off our forwards. Naden does not offer the metres on the wing. We need that metre churning from the wings, or our forwards are outmatched.

Bad week to play the Storm after they come off a loss in a game they should have won. Not an excuse- but it's not the first time I've seen them be that clinical either.

If I ever have to watch Staines be the lead tackler with support from Da Silva & Galvin again, I might cry. Particularly when they are trying to stop NAS.

Really really hurting after yesterday. I think all the hard work they have done in the preseason is all up in smoke. IMO season ended yesterday even if we win next week, we all know now we are pretending. Need new prop, 2nd rower, centre and new 5/8 asap. Lower grades stink it up also. Absolutely shattered, cancelled my trip from Canberra to the Penrith game on the long weekend not going to waste my family’s money on that.

Thats the worrying part
Can handle getting beat with dignity asnd having a real crack, but when the old "Hello darkness my old friend" rears its ugly head you start to wonder.
Been proud all year but its back to the future ala '22 '23 & '24 right now
Spot on , huge concern after this game , South’s next week needs to be a bounce back and win to show the boys have got enough to play finals footy , bounce back is crucial.
My concern is Benji must pick the team on form .

They looked like tourists in Melbourne today. I think just a couple of guys looked interested in playing, others looked tired, disinterested or CBF.
IMO, Bula was the only one who put in effort both ways; defence and attack
Bulla was out of position a lot , Turuva was yelling at him in one part to get back when we turned the pill over near Melb line , we were trash across the park in this game

I dont know how they get it out of their head because I sure as hell can't - even while avoiding all media. I guess playing maybe the only solution.
The bye round can't come quick enough I need a break.

Nothing wrong with having family values but maybe we need to stop using them as a badge.
To even get close to teams like the Storm you need a steely eyed focus and attention to detail. Both were nowhere to be seen yesterday but now I’ve had a sleep I can only hope that we learnt some important lessons about being a high ranked team.
Let’s see what happens next weekend coz a win over South’s and then a bye will be a good platform for moving up the ladder. Let’s put top 8 discussions etc to bed and just focus on getting some pride back and not falling into a giant hole.
Over to you fellas !

Haha. I was there that day with my poor old Balmain mate. It was a first round game at Lidcombe. Everything Wests did worked and poor old Balmain couldn’t take a trick. But they scored the final try through Glen Capelin. Balmain won the second round match.
Yeah I was there too, it was a beautiful day.
My old man was a Balmain supporter and I went home all cocky and he said "that's ok, you never beat us twice in a season". I'll be buggered the old bloke was right again!
